Darne sliding breech shotgun?

Hey guys,

I picked up not one but two of these shotguns at auction, one is the Halifax and one is a more modern variation I’m not sure of. I bought two with the intent to sell one.

Does anyone know much about these? Ideas as to their worth. Of course condition matters.

I owned one for a time, It was a nice shotgun but I never fell in love with it, and down the road it went...

I've seen them sell surprisingly cheap and also quite high, all depends on what model, condition ect.. ect…

Interesting, mind if I ask what your opinion is on quite cheap? There was a Dan Morphy auction with three for sale, a Halifax, R11 and R18. The R18 is a very high grade but I didn’t bid on it as it had 50% of the finish, and when you get to that high of a grade condition should be pristine IMO. I ended up purchasing both the Halifax and R11 which were in 50% condition

I wanted something different and unique.

They are well made, even if the mode of operation is very different. They tend to be light for bore size (great for a field gun). Compared to new models, used ones are inexpensive - in the $3K + range on average.

Do these have 2-1/2 or 2-3/4" chambers? What do the proof marks show?

Then I’d say I didn’t do too poorly. They aren’t exhibition grade like some of the ones listed, and a seller can ask anything he likes. I’m into the pair for $1400. I feel like most bidders didn’t know what they were looking at.

They are both 16ga 2 1/2. I don’t have them in hand yet, but will post proof marks when I do.

Oh. My. God. Now I know what it was. Decades ago my wife's family asked me to clean my deceased father in laws firearms, and there was a sliding breech shotgun just like that. I asked if I could have it and was told no. The sister in law took it to a local lawn shop with ALL the guns in his collection and sold them for pennies - that shotgun, which was in darn near perfect condition, sold for $200. As the kids say, OMG.
