What's the legality of shipping a complete AR upper (upper receiver/barrel/BCG/etc) into Massachusetts? My research indicates it may not be allowed.

Any information gratefully received.

IANAL but if the upper has a flash hider it has to be removed and replaced with a muzzle brake or thread protector that has to be permanently attached by a pin and welded. Also no bayonet lug.

Seconded....the real problem is most companys like Palmetto and BRAVO CO. won't even ship uppers to Mass anymore because they just can't be bothered with Maura Healys BS

All of the above while correct in that those rules apply to finished RIFLES. AR15 parts are NOT regulated. A LOT of places wont do shipping to Massachusetts. PSA being one of them. There are no restrictions on parts. If you are sending an upper you are GTG. Removable flashhider or not, it isn't a rifle/firearm so it is irrelevant. You can have a removable flashider/ bayonet lug on a pre ban gun and fixed magazine rifles. So as a shipper you don't know if the buyer has a preban rifle looking for a new upper or someone building a fixed magazine rifle. Either way you are safe to send it there and you should. Texas barely stayed Red this time around...Liberalism is a disease that SPREADS..I say help the patriot out and send him the legal parts. I am a resident of Mass for unfortunate reasons, but I appreciated the people not discriminating against me because of where I live. I know people who build and own AR's and "fixed" magazine rifles in this state in compliance as well as pre ban guns.

It is all legal dude, its just parts. Bayonet lug/removeable flashider, doesnt matter. It is up to the buyer to ensure they are in compliance with laws OR "interpretations" of said law. Maura Healey didn't change the law. She just scared a bunch of people into thinking she can make laws and change them on her whim. I don't judge you if you won't, but sad to see a woman scare you into not sending what are legally paperweights in the mail.

That's all very nice, but you need to back up these sorts of comments. Your saying all that doesn't make it true.

So exactly how did you reach your conclusions? If your conclusions are based on your reading of the actual law, what law, what did it say, and how do your conclusions follow from the law? If you relied on others sources, what were they?

Legal mistakes can get one into a lot of trouble

Here's the thing. No bayo lugs, no flash hiders and any brake needs to be pinned or welded. With all that said, you can have any upper you want if someone will ship it to you. I've yet to hear of anyone getting busted for not having a brake pinned and/or welded. Most LEs are not going to know the difference between a brake or a flash hider either. They are filler charges. If you get busted for something with the rifle having those items will be used to add additional charges against you. Only you can say if that's worth the risk or not.

If you can't get what you want in MA, just go to a NH, VT or ME gun show. They have uppers and parts for sale all over the place. No need for shipping.
