First CZ ever, think I have a problem. Drops to half cock in DA

Have you talked to Cabela's? I understand this was a used gun, but if you just bought it from them would they be willing to help in any way?

No, and I don't imagine they'll do anything... they don't warranty used guns to my understanding. Plus Bass Pro is taking over and it's worse than ever in there now. I'd rather fix it myself, truthfully. I wonder if CZ would just sell me the guts of the trigger group.

I just shot 6 magazines-full through it in SA; zero issues. So I suppose I could just treat it like an SAO variant for now. The SA trigger measures 3.25-3.5 lbs and the DA is 11.75 pounds on my Lyman digital. It just makes me nervous that it's not absolutely right. If someone very familiar with the omega trigger could tell me what to look for on the trigger bar or roller and/or wherever the DA sear is, I'd appreciate it. The DA sear releases the hammer before it comes back to the SA full-cock notch obviously. I looked closely and I assume all DA/SA guns are similar... but I'm not familiar enough with the CZ to know what surfaces I should be looking at.

That's the convertible variant. Read the description and it mentions earlier versions of the Omega. Mine's got an Omega symbol on the slide and the trigger is black. Apparently the earlier Omegas were like that. The later ones have a different looking trigger like the one in your link.

I also recommend going back to Cabelas- at least give them a call and see what they are willing to do for you.

Gotta say I'm kinda disappointed in CZ's response. Ruger, S&W, Glock, Dan Wesson, Taurus (and the CMP) have all provided free shipping labels and have made repairs to firearms on their dime, and none have asked for proof of new purchase or other stuff like that. I did pay for a repair for an older S&W Model 28 but S&W paid for shipping which saved me $150. I've heard good things about CZ so I expected similar service from them, particularly on a potential safety concern. Guess not.

This is why I'd recommend going back to Cabelas and seeing what they can do for you. You bought the pistol in good faith that it was in good working order. See if they can ship it to CZ on their dime.

I found this CZ75b Omega at Cabelas of all places. First EVER good deal there. $400. Sales dudes were really having a close look at the sales tag but I got it, 2 mags. No apparent wear anywhere.

I've shot it a few times and have had buddies shoot it and they all liked it. The DA trigger is a bit gritty and the SA trigger has no discernible wall. It just rolls through and the hammer falls. It's kinda nice but it's weird if you're used to prepping the trigger.

Anyhoo today I was doing some dry fire practice, lowering the hammer manually to its full rested position after "loading", as required by IDPA SSP rules. Trying some draws/first shots in DA dry fire, I noticed once something felt different. The hammer fell to half cock rather than full rest on a DA stroke. I dismissed it and thought maybe I'd done something weird like fail to run the slide fully or something. Then about 20 pulls later it did it again.

So obviously something ain't kosher. Should I call CZ? Should I spend more than half again the cost of the gun for a Cajun Omega kit? Really do t have the money or desire to do that. Ideas welcome. Pics are probably huge but you know what half cock vs full rest look like
Mine did that when I first got it. It wound up needing a little sear work to rectify the problem. The sear in DA needs to drop the hammer before the hammer gets pushed back behind the SA sear.

Yeah it does drop before it gets to the SA sear. It just occasionally drops from the DA sear to half cock. Did you do the work on yours?

Dan Wesson is now owned by CZ, so I suspect their policies are (or will SOON be) the same as CZ. How long ago did you have that S&W repaired? If it that gun was used, they saved you some money, but you could ship it by a local dealer or gunsmith (priority mail) for a lot less than $150. I've never heard of them sending out a shipping label for a used gun.

Things have changed a lot in the last 10 years or so. Ruger and S&W don't have a lot of parts of many older models that are no longer in production. If you have a P95, for example, and need a new recoil spring assembly, you may be SOL -- as they have a dwindling supply of that part and the only way you can get one is to send the gun in for service -- they won't send you the part. And if it's used you may even have to pay shipping. Warranties don't last forever, anymore.

CZ used to not charge for some repairs on older used guns, but I think that has changed over time. Some of the parts of older pre-B 75s, for example are no longer available. And CZ has never been big on paying for shipping labels for used guns -- but will still, sometimes, send out small parts for the owner free of charge, for the owner to install.

Most of the gunmakers I've done business with WILL provide free shipping labels if the problem is with a NEW gun, but few are willing to pay shipping if the gun was used. (And a few will argue about shipping labels for a new one!) Both Ruger or S&W particularly seem enthusiastic about doing anything for used guns without charging -- and I really don't blame them Right now, the only gunmaker I know about that still covers a gun whether new or used is FN-America. All of their weapons are warranteed, whether new or used, but they won't give you a free shipping label for a used gun.

The original poster ought to just send his CZ in to Cajun Gun Works and have them perform some of their magic. He'll be glad he did. (Get a local dealer to ship it for him by Priority Mail.)

I guess I got spoiled by all that good service.

If I could get a definitive answer on what was the problem I'd order the parts and fix it myself. I am reasonably competent.

I will once I find my big bag of money
Based upon my experience with them, they'll tell you what's wrong with it regardless of whether you buy something from them or not. I don't know what all they offer for the Omega trigger, but for the standard trigger their parts make great guns (as they come from the factory) into awesome guns. For me, to the point that I'm not really interested in shooting any of my other semi-autos (1911, Beretta 92, and HK) and ended up selling all but the BHP.

1KPerDay,

We can help you diagnose the issue, and no sir, you won't need a "big bag of money", we don't work like that. Timing issues can occur in the CZ system and we have solved many an issue in this area. My personal direct gunsmith number is 318-372-9050. David.
That is frickin cool. Thanks so much. Will call tomorrow.

I've bought a number of parts and kits from CGW. I put their ultra-lite kit in all my CZ's and have replaced a couple of triggers. Their ultra-lite kit makes the trigger better than any gun I own. They're a first class company, as you see from their offer to help.

This thread needs a pitcher or two. :D

Here's my 85 Combat with the following parts that elevate the gun to an amazing level compared to stock.

CGW 54460 Ultra-Lite Kit using the range hammer spring (provides a noticeable improvement in DA and also SA trigger pull, and makes it easier to rack the slide (not that CZ have hard-to-rack slides, but the kit will make it quite a bit lighter)
CZ Pre-B short trigger reset (does what it says, shortens the trigger reset -- the CZ part )
CGW 6-SAO trigger (with adjustable uptake and over-travel)
CGW Race Hammer Kit (improves trigger pull and essentially eliminates the characteristic CZ hammer "camming-back" in S/A.)
CGW floating trigger pin (just a simple item you need with the SAO trigger)

With the above setup the trigger is very nice and light, crisp, and operates fore and aft within the range of the thickness of the trigger at the mid-point.

Spoke to David and he walked me through the potential problem. A real good guy! Will send my hammer and sear to him to see if they are in spec and he said he can make a couple simple cuts that may fix it. If not we can escalate from there. Thanks all for the help!
