I'm considering shooting "single stack" in a local ICORE/UPL handgun match this month and wanted to do some shakedown runs of my older reloads as money is tight. I have never shot either RIA in a match. I used the DW as my primary "heavy metal" sidesrm until they wussified the division and basically made it tacops with a big rifle. The DW didn't like my stubby 1.12" Lee 200 grain LSWC loads last time out so I wanted to confirm that and maybe see if either RIA would perform better with them. Anyway here are some groups for any interested. All 8 round groups, all from 12 yards offhand. I ran out of shoot-n-see replacement centers for the DW groups so I used B8s, and put an orange sticky on the X, which I hit with the first shot both attempts.

So that's my excuse. That last group is the best group I've ever shot, from the DW a couple of years ago. So the pistol is willing though the flesh is weak.

I don't punch paper much so I only shot one group with each of 2 loads with each pistol.

First of each pair is the Lee LSWC load,
RIA 1911 FS Tactical
4.4 WST 200 Lee lead SWC alox
4.6 Hp38 45 MBC 230 softball
RIA 1911 GI
same order
DW Heritage Razorback,
Same order.

I had a failure to feed with the DW and the Lee LSWC so that eliminated that pistol/load from my options for this match.

Images are probably huge; sorry. But you can get the idea from the thumbs.

My friend's RIA 1911 Tactical shot surprising well producing comparable shot groups to my Sig 1911 at 10-15 yards but groups opened up slightly at 25 yards (around 3") using same reloads.

Here are 15 and 25 yard groups with Sig 1911 using 4.0 gr Promo and MBC 200 gr SWC (12 BHN Bullseye #1) loaded to 1.245" - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...omo-reloading-range-test.578444/#post-9415802

Those are nice groups! I'm currently shooting 4.6 Red Dot under Acme coated 200gr LSWCs. I may try your 4.0gr load! I bet it's a very low recoil recipe. (next powder purchase will be Promo- better deal than Red Dot!)

Forgot to say for the first group the 45 group is in the center toward 3 o'clock. The stuff on top is from a previous .22 group.

It looks like the RIA can hold its own. Nice shooting.

Why so short on the reloads? That's more like a 9mm OAL rather than 45 ACP.

Thank you.

RIA Tactical has flared chamber opening that will allow continued reliable feeding when my Sig 1911 with tighter chamber slows down after several hundred rounds of dirty lead reloads. Now I call RIA Tactical "Glock of 1911s".:thumbup::thumbup:

It's actually 1.245" which is fairly common length for 200 gr SWC bullet with thumbnail thickness of shoulder above the case mouth. My Sig 1911 barrel has almost no leade and any longer than 1.245" will hit the start of rifling.

4.0 gr of Promo and 200 gr SWC is definitely a low recoil but accurate load. Key is using softer 12 BHN MBC 200 gr SWC bullet (Bullseye #1) which obturates better than harder 18 BHN (IDP #1) with lighter powder charge to seal with the barrel - http://missouribullet.com/details.php?prodId=56&category=5&secondary=13

I assume you're talking to me rather than bds on this... thanks. The Lee 200 LSWCs I have are really stubby, with prominent sides and an atypical abbreviated, rounded cone. I have to seat them so there's just a fingernail's thickness of lead in front of the case mouth or they won't plunk. If they were the typical elongated cone of other LSWC designs the OAL would be closer to the usual 1.25ish.

That makes sense. I figured the bearing surface was completely seated inside the case with that OAL. I always seat my H&G copies to 1.24 to 1.25, but with different style bullets different OAL can be necessary.
