You all with CMP packets for 1911’s need to visit the CMP forum. Apparently some are receiving their pistols.

A fella posted pics of his: remington rand slide, ithaca frame, overhauled by USMC in 1979 in Barstow.

Looks really, really nice too. He said it felt nice and tight, 50 rounds no failures.

I got a fairly low number assigned and will pull the trigger the minute they call. My 11 year old and 8 year old are huge WW2 history nuts and I think are even more excited than I am.

To each his own. I look at it as a piece of history like I do my M1 Garand.

Come on guys, these are not plinkers, project guns, or competition guns.
Right now they are mementos of a bygone age.
Eventually they will be "collectors' items" as the really nice service pistols continue to retreat into collections, only to be seen at ever higher prices when the collector dies or divorces, leaving nothing but refurbished mixmasters for Everyman.

What’s a memento? I collect nothing.

If someone on here gets one, pics please. I already have my Remington-Rand A1 and 1917 1911- I just want to see what the guns on this deal look like.

I'm on the fence about buying one. I put my app in a few days before the deadline. So far haven't heard anything from CMP. I'll make my mind up when I get a notice, if I ever get one. I've got more 1911's than should be legal.:D

I get it if you aren't into military history but I'm pretty sure these firearms don't fall into the junk category. If you think over priced, that's fine. But junk? Nope.

One man's junk is another man's treasure. The fact is only 8000 are available and 19000 people want one. There must be a lot of people who want an old used up piece of junk. :D

Guess I didn't get one. No email. No phone call. No number assigned. I'm 0 for 2 with those guys. (I didn't get drawn for a carbine from them either.) Well. I guess I can now spend the money I was holding back for it.

As he said racking his Glock with a wry smile on his face.:)

Me neither. But they haven’t notified everyone up to 8000 yet. I haven’t seen a random number generator spot above 2200.

They numbers have been assigned. Everyone should know their spot. The CMP is verifying each packet before assigning spot in line. That’s the hold-up. They should have just notified everybody of their number, 1 through 19000 and then advised them as their number is reached, if the packet is wrong then their application would be discarded and next guy called.

I don’t mind waiting. If I get one a year from now I’m ok with that. I would like to know my place in line.

And I’m not mowing what’s growing here either. The DOD replaced the 1911 with the M9 which was replaced by the M17, and all for good reasons. When I was taking inventory of these 1911’s for the Air Force back in the Seventies, these were patched together to keep them somewhat functional until they broke again. Anybody who thinks these have historic or sentimental value didn’t see the ones I saw over 40 years ago!

Would I rather have a 1967 or a 2019 Corvette? If you’re tossing me the keys, I’ll take either one. If I have to pay what they’re going for, I’ll pass since what I’m driving now serves it’s purpose for what I need it to do!

When I first joined my field artillery Virginia Army National Guard unit in late 1992, as the "new lieutenant" I got assigned to supervise the manual serial number check on all firearms in the armory. I took a look at the 1911s we had, and they all looked old and tired. And that was over 25 years ago! I handled a few, and it seemed like they all rattled...a LOT.

There was a thread on the CMP forum earlier this week stating they had only shipped 100 pistols. They are still early in the process. I'd wait at least another month before throwing in the towel.

FWIW the guns delivered this year were supposed to be some of the best. The CMP wanted to be able to get the better condition ones sooner rather than later just in case the program was scrapped.

I personally feel no need to buy one of these 1911s. I also don't think those who want one are wrong. Everyone has different wants and needs.

If I were into WWI or WWII reenactments I would really want one just because it's right.
