Silly guns that please us

I have a Ruger stainless laminated LH M77 African in 375 Ruger. I live in Kentucky and will never go on safari. I bought it in case there’s a secret genetics lab nearby that is breeding velociraptors...or at least that’s what I tell people. I actually hunted with it one fall and shot a doe using a cast bullet at 1900fps. I loaded up a box of full power 300 grain jacketed bullets and I think I still have 47 of them left. Maybe if I get an elk tag one day, or if the zoo animals escape.

My other silly fun gun choice would be a KelTec sub2000. Who really needs a plastic gun with a folding barrel? Apparently I do! I’m a lefty so I installed a red dot at a 45 degree angle. That way I can tilt it so the blowback doesn’t set my beard on fire. I look like I’ve been mining coal after shooting 100 rounds.

My wife loves her Cheetah in .32 acp. I originally gave her a hard time on choosing a .32, but I gave it a try at the range and now whenever we go I always put a mag or two through it myself because Its such a fun little gun to shoot I like it a lot.

I have a "collection" of affordable-to-me German police pistols. (no Sig 210, Walther P88 or H&K P7) and that is the only justification for a silly piece of history, an Astra 600/43.

Heavy, heavy, heavy, it's a double hernia to carry; you need a block & tackle or chain hoist to rack the slide; I hook the trigger to the trailer hitch on the car and do 0 to 60 in 5 sec to make it go bang; and barn doors are safe at 10 yards.

Otherwise, it makes perfect sense to own one.
(This is a stock picture....don't have a shot of mine handy.)View attachment 811995

shot one with 70 yr old ammo... i agree, nastiest trigger i've even had the misfortune to encounter..

You've never shot a Nagant revolver, apparently.

LOOOL ... that would be my silly gun in the handgun category. Obscure ammo, impossible DA trigger pull ... but a quirky and fascinating revolver.

My silly gun in the rifle category I think would be my M44 Mosin rifles. Kicks like a mule, fireball the size of Mars, mine needs the bayonet to be extended to shoot more accurately, for some reason, ... a thoroughly unenjoyable rifle to shoot IMO. But still, I keep them around.

Thought some more about this one, in addition to my initial comments (300 BLK ar pistol and henry 45-70) my "custom" 10/22 doesnt have much love, either. I bought a stock standard 10/22 and built it up a rew parts at a time. Now the only stock part is the reciever. I have nothing against 10/22s, 22s in general, or even custom 10/22s. I see mine as silly because i did it wrong. Buying and building the way i did, i probably have $800 in it. It shoots better than a factory 10/22 (i hope), and id be lucky if i could sell it for half what i have in it. Its fun to shoot every once in a while, but i find myself contemplating selling it often, and replacing with a nicer 22 bolt gun with heavy barrel, such as a CZ. Or if i have to have a custom feeling semi-auto 10/22, id do it right from the start and "buy once, cry once" preferring to get a complete kidd or vq.

I have resolved that I SHALL hitch up one of my Mare's Legs and wear it on an upcoming desert expedition.
Probably the most recent, the octagonal Chiappa .45 Colt.
I have a holster that fits three of my four MLs.

The Chiappa has no sights, but I've shot tighter groups with it off the bench at 25 yards than I have with some pistols, and I can hit my small steel buffalo easily at 35 yards.

No practicality whatever, but as a kid watching McQueen with his & lusting after one of my own, I love the things.
As life begins to wind down, during this next year I'm abandoning my longtime insistence on sheer practicality on wilderness outings in favor of what I flippin' frickin' frackin' ENJOY carrying out there. :)
The Mare's Leg will be the first.

AMT backup .380.

No ergonomics. Trigger pull measured in metric tons. Lousy sight picture. Hurts your hand when you shoot it. Not very accurate beyond a few yards.

This gun is utterly silly.

Stay safe!

Late entry - How could I forget a truly silly gun like this?
Earlier this year I stumbled across this item right here on THR classifieds , browsing mind you - I certainly did not get up that morning thinking "I've just got to find a .25 caliber Beretta 418 today!!!". I came across it and just had to have it. Did not even know of the place the 418 has in 007 lore until after the deed was done.

A stylish , itty bitty Beretta which , oddly enough , is a lot of fun to shoot. I'm picturing a New Year's gala banquet somewhere in Europe in the late 50's , with a little Beretta placed next to each set of fine silverware - a classy party favor. 20181128_112858.jpg

AK with a bump stock, it’s silly, pointless, absurd, expensive, and makes the neighbors talk about you... But I’ve never seen anyone shoot it that didn’t smile, and I’ve seen a LOT of people shoot it.

Jennings j22
Replica tower flintlock smoothbore pistol
Ruger Charger takedown with Blade arm brace

88 magnum revolver

Have not owned silly in awhile. But I scan Gunbroker from time to time and look at the silly that appeals to me. 25acp or 22lr pocket guns mostly. Then I snap out of it. One of these days a weak moment may overtake common sense.
