I am looking at buying a Keltec Sub 2000. Probably 9mm. Anyone have experience with this gun? What aftermarket mods are good and what ones are junk?

Thanks

Brother has one an its a well thought out carbine. He put a 45 degree offset pictinney rail and mounted a reflex sight so it can still fold with it on there.

I've handled a few in the store and I thought they looked and felt like a piece of junk, but people that own them seam to like them. The folding feature is really neat but thats the only thing I really like about it. Never shot one so my opinion doesn't mean much

That's not a bad idea, and addresses my biggest complaint.

If that interests you, weigh a 45 offset with this option from Midwest Industries. If I were to buy a Sub2000 I would go with Midwest Industries mount.

I have an AR9 so that fills my 9mm carbine role, otherwise I would look into a Sub2000

The problem with the 45 offset is one needs to have a high rise red dot to get good sighting ability (which puts it out there for storing), whereas the Midwest Industries mount gets it high and in line with the original sights and folds in an out of the way position.

I've handled and shot them. I really wanted a 9mm carbine. Thankfully Ruger released the PCC.

I have one in 9mm, and added a red dot on a 45 offset, just so it would fold, but I'm now rethinking that and may swap the red dot off for an under-barrel mounted laser to attach ahead of an AFG. The sights, and getting low enough to get a decent cheek weld while still seeing the sights seems to be the big issue with these things.

That's a real slick solution!

My fix to get a folding 9mm was to grab a CZ EVO pistol and throw a Tailhook on the factory side folder. Can't say I regret it, but can't say I wouldn't have been equally happy with the Sub2k either with some of the mods that are finally coming out for it.

I did the same to mine. I'm a lefty and this is really beneficial to me because mine's a 40 and the blowback wants to ignite my eyebrows. Tilting it 45º really helps direct the blast away from my face.

They are tons of fun and surprisingly functional.

Maybe could adapt a side folding magnifier mount to do the same?

You did very well with your CZ EVO, I would love to have one of those.

My wife wanted one until she tried racking the charging handle. Awkward and hard and she's not a little girl.

Sure enough some people really like them. Personally I would look for something of better quality.

I enjoy mine, the ability to fold is unique and quite handy. I'm sure you'll enjoy one.

These people make a bolt tube cover which makes it more comfortable, especially when it's cold: http://www.tacticoolproducts.com/

The bolt handle could use a cover, I just made one from a small piece of rubber auto fuel line.

Mine has done well for what it is. The front sight is a little suspect. A good sight picture with the iron sights isnt always easy to get.

Ive used a larou QD mount with a red dot with better results. Plus, you can detach the sight and mount it on the bottom of the forend when folded. I dont know if this YouTube link will work but I'll give it a try. This was a fun day with the sub 2000

Edit to add: the trigger is mushy and the gun is almost toy like. There have been too few to mention failures and I think I've only ran the cheapest steel cases ammo available.
