does anybody know of a company that can or would be willing to make a custom rifled over under or side by side barrel?

I am sure some folks will pop by with specific suggestions, but most double makers will entertain custom orders, and there are simple lists of them, even on silly places like Wikipedia!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_rifle#Double_rifle_makers_today

Even those outside the US, as long as they have distribution, may well entertain custom orders. I (slightly) know folks who have gotten custom configured Blazer and Steyr guns built over there, shipped here, no problem (but both repeating rifles).

AM Little, Bespoke Gunmakers LLC. He is in a small town in Texas and can make a complete custom gun from scratch, including all barrel and water table work, stock making and checkering, and finish work.

A little more information might help narrow things down for you. Though posted in the Shotguns forum, it sounds like you are after a custom double rifle?

Caliber, intended use, need for customization, would all help. A custom double rifle will be, as I am sure you are aware, a very capital intensive endeavor. I would imagine that the floor for a utilitarian model is somewhere north of $20K, and the sky is the limit. If that is well understood, then no worries. If that is somewhat daunting, then perhaps purchase of a used double with subsequent stock work for fit would be more economically viable?

I'm interested in making a non nfa 20 gauge pistol. im just feeling around for a price to make a prototype if i can get ATF approval

Merkl. There are some shops in Ferlach, Austria that still make them. The price is : If you have to ask......

This will get you started:

Oops; misread post #5. Perhaps here is where you should start:

https://www.atf.gov/

What you want is an oxymoron at best; a short barreled rifled O/U or SxS 'firearm' (assumedly using a brace) would be a waste if time, money and expertise. As LRDGCO mentioned, the work and expense that goes into either type of rifle drives the cost to astronomical heights. You would be better served with an AR pistol in a larger bore. (.50 Beowulf, etc.)

This is just out of curiosity; what would be the intended purpose of such a gun?

At one time Vincenzo Bernardelli of Italy had a double barreled 12 gauge slug gun in their lineup. Slug gun meaning it was rifled and regulated. Don't know if they still have it.
I have one of their shotguns, it's quite nice.

This guy is very good. I’ve seen a couple of examples of his work and it was outstanding. I’ve also spoken with him on the phone and he seems like a real nice guy.

Yes, and I watched him set up an “apprenticeship” years ago on Shotgunworld. He worked for Bailey Bradshaw. Really really good.

Reading the post about the prototype non-nfa 20 gauge pistol thing, I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that is not where Mr. Little wants to take his work.

OP, the fella I mentioned (and most of the others mentioned here) makes stuff like this:

Unclear.
Are you looking for barrels for you to put into a "firearm" or do you want somebody to build it for you to your specifications?

By the way, a pistol or "firearm" with rifled barrel larger than .50 might be classified as a Destructive Device. I would want a BATF letter before I spent time and money prototyping.
Hamilton Bowen made a .577 revolver but couldn't sell it. Feds called it a DD and would not give it the "sporting purposes" exemption of a .577 Express rifle.

Baikal made a bunch of double rifles, many in 45-70. They had a widget that allowed the barrels to be regulated. For the intended use, such regulation would certainly suit. Could a Baikal double rifle be restocked as a pistol and have the barrels shortened below 16" within the NFA and GCA? That would get you a pistol that meets your intended use rather handsomely. Again, for self use, a Baikal 310 12ga SxS, which is a, shall we say, 'robust' shotgun, fitted permanently, perhaps epoxy alone would suit, with two of the MCA Sports 45-70 rifled chamber inserts of @8", and regulated to 10 or 15 feet via laser cartridge inserts, with the stock fashioned to a pistol grip would also be a rather interesting and decidedly cost effective solution, with the added benefit to humanity of removing a most undynamic shotgun from the gunpool. Since the rifled inserts are permanent, it should, like a Mare's Leg, be a pistol. But I am not an attorney and have not recently stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, so caveat fabricator.

If your aim was production of such firearms for sale, I would argue that a double pistol cannot be made to a price point that would offer the volume to make it a viable product and that, if one were willing to pay a great deal for it, McKay Brown or Mr. Little are more likely to be the preferred makers.

Start looking for a Lanber Unifrance O/U 12 gauge. It has 3 inch chambers, 21 inch barrels.
Nice handy gun for the thick brush or deep woods area's, the only draw back is it weighs 6 pounds.
Mine puts a 525 grain Lyman slug dead on at 50 yards, bottom barrel. Top barrel dead on at 100 yards.
As I've said great carry gun BUT a bear to shoot. But the you are not shooting trap with it.

There's at least 20 to 30K difference in the cost of McKay vs. Little doing what he wants, IF, he could even talk either one into doing it! And, I don't think he can....

My point was that if he intends to have a prototype built and then produce them himself for sale, he would not be the bespoke maker to whom one would go should one desire a double pistol. :scrutiny:

Thing is, WHERE will the NEXT one shoot???

I'll bet you, they won't ALL be regulated the same...

Point is the guy started off asking about building a double rifle, then it was clarified to be a double-barreled pistol prototype.

He could just go buy this and study it:

So, In the other thread he started on this subject, the OP stated He lives in IL, so my first suggestion of a BP 20ga Howdah is out. I then suggested a .223 Heizer PAR, but no response so far. I still think an AR pistol in a bigger caliber (at least .300 BO) would fit for his stated use of personal defense against rampant hogs.

How odd. Like the guy who refused to consider any other options for HD on his farm except a cheap single shot crackbarrel because he had arthritis and eschewed any device that had ever failed on him.

Methinks our gunsmith friend could build his own firearm to his liking without involving a bespoke maker. He could build his frame as he suggested in the other post, then fit an orphaned set of SXS barrels to it, cut down and permanently sleeved in the caliber of his choice, engineering considerations permitting. Just some common sense thinking there. Or just go with the shockwave mentioned elsewhere. Seems a suitable tool for piggies, especially with slugs.

When discussing these off the wall ideas, I assume that the OP has either the equipment and skill or the money and contacts to apply the recommendations he gets here. Legalities included.

I’d like to assume that also, but I wonder sometimes...

Well, it is usually not so. But what I assume for discussion.
The idea seems to be that "they" will make a product to spec.
Or that development can be done on the cheap.
