Same here. I prefer to reload .223/5.56 on single stage as I find case prep work relaxing, especially with C-H primer pocket swager - http://www.ch4d.com/products/equipment/case-tools/psk

But when shipped price of CBC M193 got low enough earlier this year, I did order 1000 to use as reference load and to "unload" them to reload. :D

FWIW, I don't reload to save money. I reload because I like to. I have been reloading for over 35 years and during that time i had a very good job an I could afford factory ammo if I chose, but there are so many more reasons to reload than just cost. I reloaded when I was working 10 hrs per day (+ a 1 hr commute) and had a dog and wife I spent time with, so time isn't/wasn't a factor. With the exception of one gun, out of 18, I can but factory ammo so I don't have to reload for "obsolete/obscure" guns. I reload because I like to. If ammo was .02 per round, I might buy some for the brass, but prolly not...

Sorry for my "rant/opinion", I just think there's waaaaaaaay more to reloading than $$$!
 
I think it was a little tongue-in-cheek, but yes, I reload because I can choose my components for hunting ammo, and reloading the plinking ammo keeps my hand in, so to speak. ;)
Plus I reload all my plinking ammo to M193 specs, because it's loaded for several different guns, most of them AR's.
 
I can still load it for about that, or maybe less. And mine will most likely shoot better. But thats a pretty good deal.
 
It's not hard to find Federal XM193 for $.25 after a rebate. I'll do 9mm reloads but 5.56 is a round that I cannot justify spending the time on.
 
After I finished my 5.56 mid length AR in 2015, I needed brass, so instead of buying new brass (Duh), I bought 1,000 rounds of (oh well) factory ammo. Federal XM855FL and Federal XM193. I've only shot a little over half of them, and it's only my 3rd time around, reloading what I did shoot! My ammo is way better too!:)

I love everything about reloading!!:thumbup:

I can handload that amount for significantly less. Of course not factoring in what my labor is worth.....It would take some time to create that much ammo. But my supply of formally cheap mil surplus powder is down to enough to load about 4000 rounds. After that the price goes up. Still cheaper than that.
 
It has been a while since I did the figures on what each round I reload cost. Either I'm comfortably numb, or I lied to myself when I got into reloading, about the cost savings. :D

.08 per bullet ($80/k bullets with free shipping)
.03 per primer ($30/k primers locally on sale, $33 when not on sale)
.08 for 25g powder ($180/8# jug)
brass: free coming of my ears from the range
= $0.19/round and I can tailor it to my gun

If you are someone who claims their work time is worth more than reloading time and gets paid overtime, then yes, it's cheaper to buy and simply load, aim, fire, repeat. If you take enjoyment in shooting the rounds you make, get relaxation while reloading and don't get paid overtime, then reloading even .223, 9mm and 12 gauge is worthwhile.
 
5.56 costs me 19c per round, and I don't try to hard to shop around. Even at full retail in the MSRP or higher WA state, its still 23c/round or less. Also theres inertia. If loaded ammo dropped to 10c, you would still have people with tens of thousands of components lying around, may as well use them.

Its not who made it, it’s the bullet they stuck in the end that makes it crap.

It is pretty neat you can buy a 50 gallon drum of ammo cuz merica, I’ll give you that!
 
Reloading any common round in bulk is a money losing prospect if you value your time. You're competing with Camdex machines and a lever-powered setup stands no chance.

Reloading for accuracy is a different story.
 
For rifle and pistol I reload,including 5.56/.223 for accuracy. However when Im just blasting and/or plinking I will buy 5.56/223. good deals to be had out there.If you buy 5.56/223 ammo with good brass,clean it and sell it and you cut your cost down as well.
