2019 Rifle Goals?

The only rifle I have on my plan for next year is a Ruger 77/44. Along the same line of thought, I will also need to get some 44 mag reloading dies, shell plate, and the lot.

Lately, I have been trying to decide what optics I want on the 77/44. There are frequently some good after Christmas sales that will probably help me decide.

I would hate that stock design but the rest of it is neat looking. They need to figure out what they are making there, a bench rifle or a varmint rifle. The stock design won’t ride bags well so it a poor bench design, and you won’t be able to get a thumb around the wrist so it will be a crappy varmint rifle to shoot from field positions.

I would really like to hold one, but even if they were offered in the US my odds of finding one locally would be near zero. No one around here seems to be on the CZ train...

Regardless I will probably own one in either the american, varmint, or MTR offerings at some point. Only thing holding me back now is the bolt lift. If no one else jumps into the bolt grendel game this year ill get over it!

My goal is to build a few more ARs. I'm not sure what yet but I'm hoping to do at least one 80% lower, and build a few of the stripped lowers that I have in a box.

I haven't had access to a rifle range in the past, so I've been limited to shooting handguns and .22's at my house. That should change for 2019, my 3 years on the waiting list at the range 2 miles from my house is up in March.

So my goal is just to shoot more.

+1 on shooting more as well as finding another place to shoot. My go to spot for 30+ years is getting busier and trashed and no one at the club wants to do anything to improve it.
I would also like to do away with this mail in and take advantage of the online form1 submission.
I’ve been needing to get this noodle chopped off this 107UR over a year ago.

What kind of rifle you have in mind?

I was thinking of starting with a base Savage Model 12 LRP. Getting the feel for the ins and outs of longer range shooting, then slowly building off the action. Chassis, new barrel, new trigger etc. I love the savage actions since they can be easily re barreled without a lathe. Thoughts?

I put my first one together this year and sure enjoyed it! I found a savage 243 in a pawn shop and put a ptg bolt, shilen barrel chambered in 260 rem. and bedded it in a laminated stock. It shoots very good and is a very satisfying feeling knowing I put it together myself! Good luck!

Thanks man! I hope I can pull the funds together this year for it. PhD salaries are pretty modest. I've been putting it off for a long time!

Receive and mount the GRS Sporter stocks I have on order for my T3x Hunter 308 and X Bolt HCS 6.5 Creedmoor.
Shoot both rifles a lot in silhouette matches (shot prone).
Buy one top quality long range rifle scope.

Acquire an AR, and a decent 222 Rem. I spent so many years buying milsurps that I have very few firearms that I want to just sit down and shoot all day.

I just want to be able to shoot groups like they do on the internet! Meanwhile, I've got rifles to sight in, an inletting job to do, 2 stock rehabs, and an AR rifle to assemble. I also have a gun room that needs a lot of work, and I hope to give progress reports.
