I have a question that many of you shotgunners probably will offer an opinion about...

The new Tristar G2 shotguns have labels on them saying to run a box of high powered shells through them for break-in. I bought one of them in 20ga and it is still new in the box at my home. Two days later I found another shotgun that I would like in preference to the G2. SO now I have question about marketing the G2.

If you were in the market for a new Tristar G2 shotgun, and you found one from an individual still new in the box. Would you rather buy it after the seller broke it in or new in the box? Do I go ahead and break it in or sell it still new in the box? I ask because I have never sold a gun not knowing if it works properly. What d you say?

If you're looking to sell it I would say leave it unfired. LNIB (Like New In Box), is better than UNIB (Used New In Box). Let the new owner decide if he wants to break it in per the factory's suggestion.

what does tristar say about the warrenty? can any warrenty be transferred to the new owner, as they will be the second owner from the dealer.

I'm with Eastbank, plus, I am a little suspicious about something that says it needs "high powered" shells to break it in. I have heard some sketchy things about some of the Tri-Stars but not being a present or former owner, will just decide on my own to stay with my beloved 870 and 1100s.

I would like to get the Tristar G2 Silver 28ga. for rabbit hunting .

I have a Weatherby SA-08 , it has the break-in recommendation of 100 rds . I broke mine in with normal use , on the pattern board and hunting with Federal , Remington and Winchester high brass #6 . It's never jammed . I have also shot low brass #8 dove hunting , after my first season of rabbit hunting and it kicked them out fine also . It might have 100 rds. fired now , after my first dove hunt . I think its broke-in now .

Tristar , Mossberg SA20 and Weatherby SA-08 are made in Turkey . Weatherby is made in a different plant than the others .

The 5 year warranty is only good to the original owner . I think I would want you to break it in if I was buying it , or at least run a box of 1oz. #6 or #8 through it without any problems .

If OP hasn’t registered the shotgun with Tristar then whoever he sold it to could register it and be covered by the warranty.

I would not shoot or load it. Sell N.I.B. Offer the ammo you bought as a deal maker if selling to someone you know. Buy what you want more, you will enjoy it more (personal experience).

Sell unfired NIB. If the prospective buyer wants you to do the break in due to warranty concerns... well thats something you guys can talk about.

I'd prefer unshot vs uh, well, I put a box of magnums thru it and uh, well, now I'd like to sell it....

You think incorrectly. If thr gun is THAT bad that 1 box of ammo is going to break it, I wouldn't want any part of it anyway.

If you have a NIB gun you want to sell, you will get the most money by NOT firing it, or even assembling it.

Used New In Box: okay I will give you an example. Some time back I bought a Rossi Model 92 from a dealer at a gun show. The gun was new and unfired in the box but it had been previously sold to someone. In this case a woman had purchased the rifle (I found her credit card receipt in the box), maybe as a gift for her husband/boyfriend/significant other, and then ended up returning it back to the dealer. So technically the gun was used but still new in the box.

I guess I tend to think of it more along the lines of a vehicle purchase. Once a car or truck is sold to a retail buyer it instantly becomes a "used" vehicle. Doesn't matter if it hasn't been driven or has just a couple of miles on it from the factory; it's still considered used. That's how I see the Rossi; can't say for sure the former purchaser did anything with the gun (maybe they had it tuned up by a gunsmith or possibly had it test fired), or how long they even had it before returning it to the dealer. To me the transfer of ownership makes the gun used.

I agree with bannockburn.

Isn't used,,,, isn't new = LNIB. You can also include to say 'unfired' if you want.

If I was your friend and thinking of buying it, I'd want you to shoot it 1st or us shoot it together, like buds do.:D

If I was stranger I'd rather it be LNIB and you throw in the ammo.

If I were you, I wouldn't shoot it.

IMO.
