NAA Mini Convertible .22lr/.22mag

Had one for few years in .22mag great pocket gun.
I want the top break they make.

Mines a .22lr only but I like it; I carry it in my pocket when I'm home. They's so tiny a lot of the handgun techniques that have been ingrained in your mind need to be changed if you want to shoot them well. For instance, for max accuracy I've found the best way is to hold the gun in your strong hand with your pointer (trigger) finger and 2nd finger holding the grip. Then wrap your support hand around your strong hand as you normally would, but use your pointer finger on your support hand to pull the trigger.

Shooting with one hand can be challenging as well, they don't necessarily "kick" but the recoil can be enough to flip the gun up if you aren't holding tight enough. That's probably a good reason to get the .22mag combo, the grip is a little longer so there's more to hold onto.

It will do the things you listed.
I had one, and really liked it. A very well made piece. Accuracy was acceptable for such a small gun.
A word to the wise, from my own experiences. This is a tiny gun, therefore the internals are not very robust.
Mine went back to NAA twice. The second time was a total breakdown. They gladly fixed it both times, but I traded it for a lcp.

First issue was simply light strikes.
Next was an issue with the holstergrip. I think the snappy .22mag recoil was jumping the folding grip beyond the locked firing position.
The last straw was when I quickly snapped the hammer back, and it wouldn't stand cocked.
I'm not bashing NAA, just relaying my experiences.
I liked the gun, but not for EDC.

I had the folding, convertible model awhile back. I sometimes carried it and it was a fun little gun.

It did bind up on me once at the range when cocking it. I wasn't sure why it did than then. It.might have been dirty, but I didn't think I had shot it that much. I was unable to remove the cylinder while it was cocked.

While fooling with it I had my one and only AD. Luckily it was pointing away from me and down range when it happened.

Well you all changed my mind about picking up one of these. I always wanted one for a last ditch back-up carry, but not anymore...

I have a couple of them.

The grips on the .22lr only version are too small for me to shoot it. There just isn't enough to hang onto. But it can be concealed with clothing that will not conceal anything else. I put the flip grip on this one which makes it much easier to shoot. I have never had a problem with the flip grip... mine locks plenty tight.

The 22lr/22mag is a bit bigger and just barely has enough grip to hang onto. I shoot it pretty well with both 22lr and 22mag. I was impressed with how well I could group a cylinder full on a target 15 yards away. Plenty accurate enough for self defense in my opinion.

Some of the NAA models have a bit larger grips. They won't be quite as concealable but they would definitely be much more fun to practice with. I think the Black Widow and the Pug are popular models because of the larger grips.

I have the Sidewinder which has a swing out barrel. It is a bit quicker reloading than the removable barrel models... but none of them are made for speed loading.

The NAA Ranger 2 is the break top revolver... it looks really cool in pictures but I have never seen one in person. They are pretty hard to come by. It would be fun to play with a Ranger 2 but I think I will stick with the less mechanically complex ones for carrying.

All of my NAA's have been 100% reliable. I only feed them quality ammunition... not the cheap bulk Remington and Winchester stuff. Mine have been mechanically sound and seem well engineered and well built.

I've had a .22 mag Wasp for about a year. I really like it. I carry it when I can't carry anything else in the summer months. Ultra reliable for me.

Extremely happy with mine. I usually carry it with the .22 mag cylinder. They are like anything else. Learn to use it and then practice. I pretty much always carry it, even when I can carry nothing else.

I have 2, both with convertible cylinders, fun to use and work as intended.

Here is my Ranger II

I hate to cause anyone to steer clear, because I did like the gun. In fact I was all about it, and a real fan of .22mag. I was touting the benefits of the little gun on THR once when someone called it a novelty gun. At the time, it really made me mad.
I still think it is a fun gun to own and shoot. Just dont rely on it for real EDC.

I like the mag with snake shot in it for snakes. Mine have been solid but they have their limits which are inherent with the design.

I had the 22Mag (only) Mini revolver. And it is one of the few firearms I regret selling. My wife was the one who bought it and I carried it more than she did. Great little backup gun to something larger. And a good primary when you literally cannot carry anything else, like in gym/running shorts like I did.

Because it is so small, there are many ways you can carry the little thing. I used 2 holsters with it. A IWB holster and the leather pocket holster (with pouch) that NAA sells on their website. Both would work for gym shorts carry depending on whether or not your shorts have pockets. The gun is not heavy enough to weigh down a drawstring.

Never had any issues with mine. Wife dropped it once going to the bathroom, cracked a piece of the handle off. And very easily glued back together. The only thing I had mild dislike over was taking the pin out to reload it, you have your hand in front of the muzzle. So the other safety rules become even more important.

The holster I posted was made by a fellow I think I met at AR15 forum. I’ A lefty and carry cross. This rig is a right cross draw. Works well as a backup. It’s easily accessible to either hand. Attractive to boot.

I have two NAA minis with convertible .22 LR and .22 WMR cylinders -- a Black Widow and an Earl (also have a .22 LR-only Mini with 1 1/8" barrel).

The Black Widow developed light primer-strikes after about 400 rounds. I sent it back to NAA's excellent customer service, and got it back in not much more than a week (it was quick, whatever it was). I asked that the BW, because it was intended for defense, be fitted with a stouter main spring. Man -- that BW came back STOUT... LOL I can't EVER imagine that piece light-firing now...

Suffice to say I like my NAAs...

I have a convertible Black Widow and carry it every day, usually with something else. It has 100’s of rounds thru it without any issues. The BW has sights and has been useful for garden pest. I don’t shoot 1000’s of rounds but do go thru a couple of cylinders every week or so.

Nice set-up you have with your NAA revolvers! Great photos too of the Ranger II!

I used to pocket carry one, but it got put out of action by pocket lint. I took it apart to clean....yeah, I couldn't put it back together. Had to send it back to the factory, postage plus a $25 fee at that time.

Sent it down the road.

I try to avoid pocket lint by carrying mine in a pocket holster and that has worked good so far. I do clean it from time to time so hopefully that will be enough.

I have an older 1 1/8" .22LR NAA (but new enough to have the offset cylinder notches for the hammer nose to rest in).

After I retired I picked up a 1 1/8" .22MAG, basically on whim. Decent, but it appeared the cylinder pin jumped forward a couple of times during shooting. I ordered a new one from the company.

Later on I had a local store special order me one of the Black Widow Convertible .22LR/MAG guns. Neat little model. Surprising accuracy out to 10yds with actual sights. The .22MAG cylinder worked just fine with W-W JHP, Hornady 45gr FTX and Speer Gold Dot loads. The best accuracy, though, was when using the .22LR cylinder and Stingers. A real tack driver at 5-7yds.

The 2" barrel seems to have a bit of muzzle lift when shooting MAG loads, which my 1 1/8" MAG model doesn't exhibit. Maybe the heavier barrel has a little more mass to get moving? Real pussycat with LR loads using the LR cylinder.

I look at the NAA guns as fun little examples of plinkers, as well as what's probably best described as "Gentleman's Pocket Jewelry" (although I still use pocket holsters). I also think of them as last-ditch "Onion Field" type hideout guns.
