Do your name your guns?

I named two of mine. You might guess what they are by their names.

Boris is one. The other is Moses.

My hunting rifle is "Big Stick". As in, "Speak softly".

My AR is "Vera". Some will get it.

My CCW is "American Express". As in, "Never leave home without it."

Others get named, and renamed when I forget the first name.

Badkarmamib,

Let me guess, "her" gun case is a brown coat? Actually I guess Mal looking back on it wished he had made the trade....

I call my Colt .45ACP "John Moses" because JMB is one of my two favorite LDS folks and my best little .22 "Annie" because Annie ( from Ulm am Danau) Shoots better than any other .22 I ever owned. Just tributes not primitive animism.

That's a good practice, actually. My wife and I adopted that years ago. If she asks, "Do you have your American Express card?" (which I don't carry), she is observing something that makes her feel uneasy and is giving me a "heads up."

I'll have to mention that to my wife. She often leans in and quietly asks me if I'm carrying for the same reason, and once or twice this has been at locations where I probably shouldn't have been carrying.

I don't but my kids do. Gertrude is an FN 1906 vest pocket. Edward is a JC Higgins model 31. Bob is a Ruger 10/22. Those are the ones I can recall.

My Mossberg tactical shotgun is named Ol Cheney. Yes, I name all my guns. When I am at the range shooting, I even talk to my guns in a low whisper. Love to give them a nice rub down each evening with Ballistol. Guns have feeling too.

I name all of my guns,,,
It's an American tradition started by Davy Crockett.

If he can name his rifle Old Betsy,,,
I can name my guns as well.

I don't name guns or vehicles. I've called a couple by some rather colorful names though. My garand got called a few things back when it was my dads and I fed it my finger. I have a 10/22, a pmr 30, and a semi auto winchester, and a Jeep that all share the same title that isnt very "high road"
I grew up on a farm and always found it silly when people named cattle. Some did though. Ours were named whatever number the tag in their ear said.

I have named a few. My trap gun, bought in 1975, used to be "Tibbie" (an 870 TB) but now it is Frankengun as it has only the original stock and barrel while everything else is donor stuff. A FedOrd parts 1911 became WPOS, with the W standing for worthless. Guess that's about all.
