So, I am considering grabbing a S/A XD Tactical in .45 ACP for what I believe is a great price ($349.99). I presume for that price, it is the basic gun and one 13 round magazine. Any experience out there?
My Taurus 1911 has hammer fall and I am not sure what it would cost to get it fixed. Might need the safety replaced, or the hammer, or who knows? I neglected to send in the warranty card when I purchased it new many years ago, so I don't know if Taurus would honor their lifetime warranty on it. ( Or if I would want them to replace the failed parts with new parts that will fail again in less than 1,000 rounds).
So, grab the S/A SD Tactical and wait to get the Taurus fixed? Just take the Taurus to _____________ and have it fixed right? Forget it, sell the Taurus and liquidate my .45 ACP Ammo and reloading component stash, since 9mm is better anyway? Or just be a good Washington citizen and get rid of all my guns before they take them from me by force? Opinions and suggestions welcome.
Thanks in advance.

I’m a big fan of the xd mod2 platform, so much so that I own both 9 and 45 subcompact and service models. That just fit my medium size hands great and I find the trigger works well for me. I would grab the Tactical at that price.

A good gunsmith should easily be able to fix up your Taurus 1911. Cost should be minimal.

Question: have you disassembled it lately (had the mainspring housing and sear spring off)? Hammer follow can happen if the sear spring was not installed correctly or is not adjusted properly. It could be a very simple fix.

so I don't know if Taurus would honor their lifetime warranty on it.

Yes they will, although you will foot the bill for shipping. So you might want to talk to an LGS about them shipping it for you. (Cheaper than you going to Fed-x, UPS overnight)

They fixed the Taurus M85 that came with my wife, not sure how old it was. Crane needed adjusting and it kept getting light strikes. I think it took about a 4-6 weeks or so, if I recall correctly. (Its been close to a decade)

The XD seems like a good buy at that price... Id snag it and send the taurus in..

Like someone said it probably is the sear spring. I would just replace it with a Colt or Wilson for $6.00. It's easy and it should fix it.
I'm picking up my XD Mod2 5" 45 hopefully tomorrow from Bud's. It should have 2 mags.

I second the notion of having a gunsmith look over your Taurus and see if it could be a quick and easy fix. The price on the XD Mod.2 Tactical does sound pretty decent.

I'd definitely ditch all Taurus guns you have, admittedly I'm a Taurus hater but much happier in life now that I'm down to only one left which I can't sell as my wife loves the 4 inch 357

The Springfield xd mod 2 is an amazing gun in every way, much better shooter for me than a 1911 in any flavor or variety.

I would not get the tactical version, I have 2 of the sub compacts, and don't really see a reason to get the full size. The 5 inch barrel for the full size is a big gun, really big, so carrying it is noticed, and heavy.

The sub compact gives you the options of magazine size, ccw for carry at 9 plus 1, and full size magazines at the 13. Well worth it to me any additional cost for the sub compact, with the flexibility you get. I just looked at their website, doesn't look like the rebate for extra magazines is valid right now, which sucks, but extra mags are not to bad.
