Your Funnest Pistol or Revolver

It all depends on what you think is "fun" about shooting - or about owning a gun. What kind of shooting - or collecting - do you like to do?

In 1973, I saw the film "Where Eagles Dare" for the first time. The star of the show to me was not Richard Burton or Clint Eastwood, but the MP40 and ever since I wanted one. Wanted one badly. I can't afford the real thing so this knockoff will have to do. This pistol puts 9mm rounds downrange and is so effective I have not had to track one wounded soda can or water bottle. This is probably my one and only purely fun gun.

Any 22 is plain fun. My Blackhawk in 45 Colt was my favorite until I got a 1911 in 9mm. 9mm is cheap enough and shooting a 1911 make the 9mm super fun. My 1911 in 9mm makes almost every range trip with me.

My Ruger Mark II Target MK-512 with a 5 1/2" bull barrel. It is accurate with no recoil, reliable, and the ammo is cheap.

Im in the market for a new pistol or revolver. Really hoping to get something that’s purely fun, cool, or pleasurable to shoot. I want something that’s just a little bit different than than what I already own: a G19, Shield 9, and G19 .22.

Thinking about a few different things:
- A WWII styled 1911 a1, the auto ordnance model
-Some sort of .22 DA or DA/SA revolver
- Some kind of classic .38 or .357
- an all metal DA/SA pistol with a rail, like a 226 or similar
- a full size Glock 21 style pistol

I’m open to all of the Highroad braintrusts suggestions, but it needs to be semi reasonably priced and be in a common caliber :9mm, .45, 357/.38, or .22 in that order. I’m almost completely against .40, but a pistol that offers the 40-9(-357) conversion easily could be in the running like a G22 may be a possibility.

A pistols ability to accept preban magazines is a major bonus since I’m behind enemy lines in Massachusetts. In fact, I’ll be trying to swap a preban magazine for most of the value of whatever pistol I decide on.

Thanks in advance!
I would go right for a Smith model 10.

That does, INDEED, look like pure and unadulterated fun! :D

OP, your whole list is pretty solid. My two favorite guns to shoot are my Sig 226 Legion SAO and Dan Wesson VBob (also my two favorite to carry) followed by any of my other 1911s, Glock 21, the Ruger Vaquero (my wife's favorite to shoot).

Personally I avoid GI style 1911s though, the older style safety catches and non-extended beavertail are uncomfortable for my hands, especially when compared to the joy that is an extended beavertail 1911 (in my hands).

Full size fun shooting cheap ammo- 10 shot .22 GP100

My 9 shot .22 is fun to shoot, but the only gun I dislike cleaning. So many danged chambers to clean!

Everyone needs a 1911, a S&W and/or Ruger 357/38 and a Browning Hi Power.

Sounds about right.

Would that be shooting magnums or specials? I like the drama but would hesitate to call it fun per se.

Magnums, I don't tend to shoot specials in magnum revolvers. Just a personal quirk. This is a big, heavy gun that points naturally, it is fun to shoot!

Good for you. I had only one instance where shooting 44 Special in magnum was justified...not a big deal really. Otherwise, I too shoot only with brass to match what is stamped on the barrel, but I reload to whatever level I want and enjoy experiencing and evaluating different loads. I tend not to shoot full power, because I want to use less costly lead bullets. The "fun", or at least satisfaction, comes from trying to shoot well when challenged with recoil and suboptimal grips. I get my fun with paper at 50 feet.

Technically speaking, the CZ Scorpion EVO S1 is a pistol. In addition, it is, without question, the funnest gun that I have. I just love shooting it. I am going to the range today and, while my focus will be on my CCW pistol, it will get use on some "fun" targets.

My funnest pistol to shoot is my Keltec PMR30. Haven't had it very long but it's quickly became my funnest pistol to shoot. After that is my 460 S&W Magnum but I don't shoot many rounds threw that BEAST!

My 1851 Navy .36 cal (repro) I got in 1972 when I was 15. It is the funnest gun to shoot...and it is such a PITA to load, clean, etc I haven't shot it in at least 40 years. But, the whoosh-boom and the big cloud of smoke? What a ball to shoot.

Just my opinion, based on what you laid out, I would say the following:

S&W K frame .38.

Model 10 or the predecessors are classics for a reason, and everyone should own at least one. Mine is a .38 M&P 4 incher that shipped in 1920.

You also mentioned the Auto-Ordnance clone of the 1911A1, the 1911BKO. I also have one of these, and it is one of my favorite handguns.

Until Saturday owned a stock Colt Government (01991), and the AO brings me more happiness in spite of the lack of the prancing pony on the slide. Some folks mention issues that I haven’t encountered, and the stock arched mainspring housing and shorter wide spur hammer (doesn’t leave me bitten and bleeding after a range session), coupled with the shorter trigger just fits me better.

YMMV

Also, I love me some single action revolver, um, well, action.

Cimmaron Model P fills that niche for me.

I have two Glocks, and while the one that I have actually fired has proven itself reliable enough to be my nightstand gun and, in another life, my daily carry, I don’t know that I would call it “fun”.
