I was just reminded of a gun quote and I thought I would start this thread.

Post any interesting sayings to share with the group.

Here are a couple of quotes to start off:

"Slow is smooth, Smooth is fast."

"All guns point where you shoot, the good ones shoot where you point."

Your first quote isn’t just in shooting. It’s used in car racing and martial arts.

I used it awhile ago and was bashed as some said slow is slow. The bashers don’t get that fast and slow are relative. That muscle memory and technique are important in getting smooth and really fast.

There's a name for people in USPSA who believe "slow is smooth, smooth is fast." That name is "C-class shooter." I have seen people be stuck for years because they believe that saying.

There are things to be learned by going slow and building good patterns. But there is no way to go truly fast without trying to go fast. Smooth is always good. If you have to go slow to be smooth, though, then the smoothness avails you nothing.

Yes I first learned in in martial arts. Practicing a technique thousands of times slowly to build up the strength and speed to do it quickly and by instinct.

Yes you need to do both. Practicing quickly is for timing.

Loved the one that is credited to Clint Smith

A gun is supposed to be comforting,NOT comfortable.

Since I have been 'healed' for about 5 decades,I agree with him and grasp the simple truth that if a gun is easy and comfortable to carry 24/7 = likely it is NOT the gun you want if TSHTF.

Leastwise that is how I see it.

I think most of us are in the position of deciding how much gun we want to put up with,
in constant EDC mode, day in and day out, in order to have "the gun we want, if the SHTF" .

Speed is fine but accuracy is final. You must learn to be slow in a hurry. - This was actually on the wall of the classroom at the HK range.

Wasn't the " You must learn to be slow in a hurry" a Wild Bill Hickok phrase? Just asking. Always thought that he was attributed to that.
