Dreams Involving Firearms: Weird Wild Stuff

I know I'll be crucified for this but I don't really care. Cautionary tale.

When I was 18 yo I moved out of my mom's house and into a small house a widow had built on her farm to rent out and help pay bills. I had all my guns in a safe up north due to working long hours and not being home often, and new to my location, I thought I could easily be ripped off so I decided to bring just one handgun with me for the time being. A Ruger sp101 that I kept under my pillow. I know THR. Not smart.

Anyways, I had a dream my new home was about to be robbed and my Ruger was either full or empty (remember it was a dream) so I tested it by pointing it at the ceiling and pulling the trigger (again, just a dream). The gun went bang and the intruders never broke in.

When I awoke, I went to put my gun behind the water heater in a hidin cubby before I headed to work and flipped open the cylinder and a primer had been punctured. I went into my bedroom and sure enough, there was a hole in my ceiling. Thank God no one was hurt.

What I learned; dreams are strange and lock boxes, and safes are necessary.

So the gun discharging inside a small bedroom did not wake you up?

Nope. That's what scares me. Im not a sleep walker. I had finished a 22 hour shift that day and was out of it, that and worries about my new location equaled that dream.

I once had a dream that I was picking up a ww2 BAR from my favorite gun store. It was a semi auto conversion, so not too far fetched, just way more than I could afford. As I was leaving the shop with my friend and my new purchase of a case of ammo and ten loaded mags, a bus pulled up on the street out front of the shop, and about ten dudes with ak's get off and start a riot! Shooting at people and cars, robbing everyone in sight. Well, I had a relatively clear view of it all, and I did have a bar in my hands, so I put it to use. 40 rounds later I woke up. Wanted a BAR ever since...

I have a recurring dream where I am shooting at bad guys, and the bullets are slow and weak and don't do any damage, almost like plastic pellets or something. It is horrifying.

All of my firearms dreams are similar. Either the ammo is nonfunctional or the guns don't go bang or the trigger is so stiff it doesn't move, or I shoot my loud mouthed younger brother over and over again and he just laughs and jeers at me. :D

I'm sure Freud would have lots to say but I have a bunch of kids so it's not a hardware problem. I imagine it's deep seated insecurity or fear of being ineffectual in life or something.

Or maybe it's just the pepperoni and sausage pizza I ate just before bed

I still have dreams about guns, but most often there is black smoke, explosions, the noise of automatic fun fire, sand is everywhere and the skis are dark and filled with thunder.
I awoke one night after one of these dreams and wrote this:

The Sound of Thunder

The thunder rolls and the ground shakes.

Sand splashes into the air staining the horizon with smoke and dust.

I grip my rifle tighter and move forward.

The air shakes and then the thunder cracks the sky.

The ground to my front erupts like a volcano with fire smoke and debris.

The Beauty is none like I have ever seen.

I grip my rifle tighter and move forward.

There is nothing else to do, but to keep going forward, into the fight.

War is not glorious as it is written in books.

It is only glorious in the moment. Once you walk among the destruction and dead, and the thunder no longer fills the skies, there is only the feelings of lost and shame.

There is no true glory in the end, only peace for those that die and pain for those that live.

I grip my rifle tighter and await the sound of thunder.

I have had similar dreams several times.
Always a SD situation, and I either can't get my gun to function, or I shoot the threat repeatedly with no discernible results.
Maybe it's a sign I should practice more.

A while back I had a dream where I was involved in a Civil War battle/skirmish.

I was using a break-open rifle but instead of it being a single shot,,,
I was replacing loaded/capped cylinders.

Many years ago I dreamed that someone was entering my bedroom while I and my wife were sleeping. I knew he was there but didn't know what to do. I thought I could either pretend I am asleep, try to punch him, or grab the gun off my headboard and shoot him. I elected to punch him. I struck out in my sleep and punched my wife in the eye. That immediately got her attention as she woke up cursing. I don't keep my gun anywhere near me at night since that time. I want to make sure I am fully awake if I need it.

27 years ago I was working 3rd shift. I could not sleep so I started taking Melatonin to help me sleep. I have very vivid dreams all the time but with Melatonin they were spectacular and fantastic. Very real and in vivid technicolor. I enjoyed them for a while and the things changed. My dreams got dark and scary.
One day I had a dream that I was coming home from the store and all of a sudden the apartment parking lot was full of huge spiders. Their bodies were the size of footballs and they were after me. In my dream I ran upstairs ran down the hall, opened my gun safe and got my Mossberg 500 out and was waiting for them. They came down the hall crawling on the walls, the ceiling, the floor. It was like a horror film. I racked the slide to fire.
The sound of the slide racking woke me up.
I was standing in my bedroom, in my underwear, facing down the hall and I had my Mossberg 500 in my hands. A live round was in the chamber because I just racked it home.
I was asleep in my bed, got up, unlocked the safe, got out the shotgun and was preparing to shoot spiders all in my sleep.

I haven’t taken Melatonin since. I have lots of dreams involving guns, mostly good dreams but that one was the most intense in more ways than one.

Wow. That’s as scary as Mn Fats’ incident. I take melatonin now and then. I had major sleep problems from age 14-34. It’s the only thing that helps. But I’ve never had that type of thing happen.
