What's your idea of the ultimate .357?

I wish i could say its my 4” 66 but I like the L frame for shooting. The K frame is nice to carry but a bit light for full usage of 357s.

And if you’re trying to hit anything past 50y the 6” barrels are nice.

I would say a 6” 686

I’ve seen some mighty nice guns here and to be truthful I don’t think you could go wrong with any of them. I’m a revolver guy big or small long or short they’ all great

Depends.

For a range toy, S&W N frame

General, all-around use, S&W L frame

More carrying than shooting (at least with full power .357) K or J frame

Yes, I'm a S&W fanboy. For me, Ruger double action offerings are too close to the price of a S&W with none of the refinement to be in the running, save for Super Redhawk if you want a .454 (yes, I own or have owned pretty much every example of a Ruger single or double action). Colts are nice, but priced well above what they're worth IMO. A Python, King Cobra, Peacekeeper or Trooper won't do anything an L frame S&W can't do as well or better for far less money. Dan Wesson revolvers are nice, but also priced beyond what they're worth to me.

I think a perfect 357 would have to be at least a 5" barrel, so all of the little 357 revolvers are best used as heavy duty 38s. I would like a gp100 with a 10" barrel and a handgun scope. I could find a lot of uses for that. Otherwise I just use a 44.

When I shoot 357 Magnums I use a 4" Security Six or a Ruger mid sized Blackhawk.

what's the ultimate hunting .357 or the ultimate pocket .357

No experience hunting with a revolver, but my first attempt would be with a 7 1/2" Blackhawk. What I really wanted to offer is that the ultimate "pocket 357" is the one that does best shooting 38 Special. The only pocket gun I have is an alloy 38 and is a little beast even with +p.

Best .357 for target shooting...the PC 686-4 "Light Magnum Hunter" (bottom) has outdone all others.
I have yet to shoot the recently purchased 686-3 w. 8 3/8" barrel. Once i decide which scope to use on it, I'm thinking that the PC 686 will have some competition.

The prelock 686 with a 6" barrel for hunting . If new production a Ruger GP100 , 6" .
For pocket carry , a M&P 340 non lock . But you want , want to shoot it much .

Maybe the Dan Wesson kits.

When I read the title of this thread a Dan Wesson is immediately what came to mind. I prefer the stainless model 715 over the blued model 15 myself. I wonder how many of the new 715's CZ is actually selling?

Now that I own a Dan Wesson 744 I can't understand why I would want a revolver which I would not be able to change barrels on? My 744 has a trigger every bit as good as the best S&W trigger I have ever shot... which means it is considerably better than 90% of the S&W triggers I have ever shot. The design is every bit as rugged as a Ruger... but is finished MUCH better than any Ruger I have ever held.
