Let's see what you have for targets.

Not talking paper targets on a real estate sign here, or paper mounts at all really.

I have bowling pins and two ar500 steel plates. Gets old after a bit. I'm looking for some ideas. I have a welder and some scrap steel. Swinging targets are all I can think of making, anyone have plans for resetting swinging targets?

Let's see your set ups. Maybe there's something I can steal :D.

Thanks!

Some reactive targets we've made from the scrap pile. Spinner is an old planter trash whipper set horizontally. Bowling pins are made into swingers, was always a pain resetting them. Clay targets sit in slots machined into metal plate. Three target frames and heavy metal swingers set at 50-100-200 yards. Have a number of small bore silhouette swingers not pictured.

I think you possibly mean resetting plates. I think there are a couple of talented machinists/inventers on THR. jmorris comes to mind but to get plans one may be better off searching the web.

"Swingers" reset automatically. (My bad)

I have done what troy fairweather has done, cutting plow edges, actually called "cutting edges" welding the 5-6 inch piece to a rod with a piece of pipe welded parallel to the opposite end of the cutting edge piece. Weld piece of cutting edge to the vertical rod on the concave side of cutting edge. This will be the back side of the target.Shooting at the convex side of the cutting edge minimizes ricochets.
The pipe opposite of your target serves as a pivot point for swinging that a piece of pipe or heavy rod pushed through mounted between two 2 A-frames can swing on. clear as mud, huh? (Crude grade school drawing included.)

These are heavy targets. Big bores will make 'em swing.(i,e. 460 S&W)

After making this set up I later discovered that a frame holding your steel swinging targets that is light and has skis mounted under the "A"-frames allowing rearward movement, made more sense to absorb the bullet energy. YMMV.

Then one of our two machinist sons made me these........some kind of heat treatment and coating.....

Garage door panels are 2 feet to give one an idea of the targets size. 8, 6, & 4 inch circles.
One can see that I destroyed the middle sized target......
After that I decided not to use magnum and rifle rounds at these purty targets.:)

Be safe!!!

I really like that spinner set up, the one by your garage door. I might take that one. The one with the wood mount for paper and two plates below it is very similar to something I'm working on now, nice to see someone else's variation. With the bowling pins I was considering drilling a hole in them just under the neck and sticking a piece of rebar through them mounted.

Yes, I do mean resetting plates. Sorry. If anyone has plans for them that'd be great. As far as discs go, yeah I know where about 75 discs are sitting in a machine shed. The owner, an old farm boy pushing 90 says the same thing everytime I enquire "they're not for sale at this particular time".

Any out of the box ideas are appreciated. Let's seem some pics of your guys targets and ranges!

I bought a set(6) of AR500 paddles and tubes that I fabbed into a Dueling Tree with some angle iron I bought locally.
A kit similar to this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/AR500-Stee...pbhKqo:sc:USPSPriorityFlatRateBox!83634!US!-1
The kit had some diagrams but I built it somewhat differently, based on other trees I have owned/built.

I have a 22LR version too, but it's mild steel, no pics though.
:D
edit: more types of targets (3k+!), swinging/hanging: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=steel+targets&_sacat=0

Just came in from looking for my A frames. They are under an 8 foot snowbank. Wanted to take a picture of the frames as I made them to be taken apart for transport. At the top of each "A", on the inside I have a piece of pipe welded as a sleeve to accept the axle. Nut welded to sleeve with hole through sleeve to secure axle with a bolt.

I've got a few pieces of steel on my place. the majority is AR500". I have a 30' pistol range and steel with berms going out to 760 yards. Also have barrels, barricades etc. basically enough chit to setup some fairly decent stages.

AR500 Bowling pins, mounted 2/3rds IDPA and a couple 4" circles.

Yup, stationary targets get old.

After doing zeroing of scope/red dot/BUIS on paper targets, I toss these bouncing ground targets for plinking fun, especially with ARs with 22LR conversion bolts as they seem to never miss these bullet magnets. The two targets on the edge are particularly fun with pistols as even with 9mm, they will bounce high when hit.

Fun, fun fun.

Tombstone drops are fun until you have to reset it

It’s also fun to play golf with neon pink golf balls and a.22lr

just bought the conduits for this set up today and havent brought it to the range yet. other pics are of my dueling trees and head and torso target but iusually shoot my bullseye gong. 20190316_195011-907x1612-362x643.jpg 20190316_194427-1612x907.jpg 20190316_193749-1612x907.jpg 20180303_205432.jpg 20190316_195011-907x1612-362x643.jpg 20190316_194427-1612x907.jpg 20180303_205432.jpg

I have an assortment of AR500 rifle plates hanging from rubber. I used a sawzall to cut up an old truck tire and then used carriage bolts to attach the steel to the rubber. Rubber is bolted to either an A frame or a steel fence post driven into the ground at a 45 degree angle.

Chains or cable get shot down quickly. A 6 inch wide piece of rubber is self sealing essentially. They have been hanging there for years. I paint them occasionally.

These are a more advanced design, a computer operated prairie dog town. Prairie Dog targets are set in tubes below ground, supplied with air and low voltage electrical. A lap top program controls which dog pops up and duration it stays above ground. Air cylinder pushes dog up, springs pull them back in the hole. Take too long getting on your target and he'll go back into his hole (controlled by program). Hit the dog, he'll fall over backwards triggering a solenoid that pulls it back into the tube resetting the target automatically. Runs on low voltage and small air compressor.

Standard falling plates that can be reset by pulling rope, targets can be changed out with bowling pin shaped steel.
