I have a Ruger American Rifle, black stock, blued action and barrel and would like some suggestions for what hydro dipped stock pattern I should get. Thinking of camo or military, going to dip only the stock. I wish the sites had "build a gun" where you have your gun and then can virtually apply the patterns to it to see how it would look. Hard for me to see how it'll look only looking at a small square pattern.

Any suggestions? (camo or military) that would look good with factory barrel?

Lay leaves, tall grass, even a branch across and spray paint it with flat colors.

You’ll be closer to what an “Operator” would do vs spending a few hundred bucks on a rifle you don’t own, to be less unnoticed.

A sparse Hawaiian shirt pattern on a black stock background and blued barrel, not the textured black paint, would be my pick. Bird of Paradise and Red Hibiscus. Calla lily leaves for longer architecture.
I don't tend to fit in, anywhere! No sense in hiding it...:D

My son has a shirt that is camo, but upon close inspection some of the blobs are dinosaur shapes. You may not want dinos :), but maybe they can get a print film with deer or antler shapes for the branches and blobs of the pattern. Something interesting that not everyone will have.
Hydro dip is a very cool finish. Anything is possible. I have seen Leonardo's Vitruvian Man applied to a target rifle. Turned out very nice, the parchment makes a good desert color. It looks like sand and sticks till someone tells what it is.
As far as actual camouflage goes, the Kryptek patterns are modern, good looking designs that look nice at the range and disappear in the wild. I know I am tired of the same old, three color, smooth blob Viet-camo. Although a Retro Euro-cam might be neat. Cold War Era Danish maybe?

If you know the name of the design, you can google image search it to see if any rifles come up. There will be millions of ideas there.

@LoonWulf, do you have tropical print camouflage on the Island? Or is it the same boring stuff we have in Michigan? Do Hawaiin shirts work for camouflage there? All the fancy patterns the experts dream up look awesome in the magazine pictures, but in my part of Michigan a brown Carrhart work set makes one nearly invisible, warm and I can change the oil in the tractor, too.
Not that I don't envy a Sitka jacket, of course, but I am just too practical. (Cheap.)

I still have the aloha shirt I used as camo in highschool, I'll grab a picture of it when I get home. I'm about to head out to the mountain, wearing a blaze orange t-shirt, and blue and black Angel gear paintball pants (think Sitka, or kuiu, for paintballers....thought I had money, and as cool then.....)

I thought I have better photos of how the Delta guys did their camo jobs but all I could find was this one.

They did very rudimentary jobs and they were not just wanting to go unnoticed by a deer.

About the same process as the coyote caller I made though.

Not so much... but that's just me. A nice shiny blue barrel and scope, on a rough and tumble working stock.
It's like leather seats in an open top Jeep...

This has a few different instructions in the beginning, and ideas galore.
I didn't find too many camouflaged rifles that were not done fully assembled, as the whole thing needs it to be incognito.

Another product to know of is "Plasti-Dip". It's a spray that dries to a "Hogue Overmold" type rubber. It comes in a myriad colors and can be painted like spray paint, with a bit of finesse. The attractive part, aside from a rubber protective coating, is that it is completely removable. White for winter around here, and desert tan for the summer. With green sprayed on in between for when the grass grows!
It will peel of in a perfect reverse mold of the firearm if care is used. My daughters rifle is done in sparkly blue, I did my Rimfire the same as a joke one rabbit season. Afterwards, I stripped it right off.:)
Some cheap stocks may warp with the solvent. A pellet gun I had did not fair well. Good practice though. The Ruger stock should be of sufficient quality.

Took me a while to find it.....

I actually got thin enough to wear it about 5 years ago, then I broke myself again, and whent back to the way I was before.....
Anyway, it still works just fine.

I'm thinking I might see if someone can do a dip, or paint, like that on a gun for me. I've got a few that might look good on....my chinese sks for one

Like your shirt, it is not so much the shape as it is the pattern and colour for the environment. That print dipped on a rifle would look as good as any "real" camouflage and have something to talk about when someone figures out it's a dragon!:D

I don't know if it would be sacrilegious or not, but I have wanted a famous painting done on a target rifle. Like "The Birth of Venus" by Sandro Botticelli or Monet's "Waterlilies". "Starry Night" would make a good camo, in a drab of olive.
The hard part would be getting the image on, just right, to wrap the rifle without losing the impact of the image.

Yes, I am a strange duck. Flames and skulls don't do it for me.:D

The first thing that came to mind is I think a ruger American would look really nice with a blue/grey digital camo pattern. Of course that’s just for style, not actual camo, but that’s what I think would look nice.

I went the paint and "natural stencil" route with some twigs, pompas grass, and popmas grass seed head. Blends well with the foliage here in the wooded prairie of NE Kansas.

I first used a bit of spray on bedliner to add a little texture to the grip and fore grip. Then coated with a few colors of krylon camo paint, using various parts of my grass and twigs.

It's a .308 Rem 700SPS in an AICS chassis with a deleted thumb hole. The new buttstock side plates were not the same tan as my chassis, so I painted it.

The following are actual hydrographics patterns:

KUIU Verde 2.0
KUIU Vias 2.0
WTP-272 Tiger stripe woodland digital
WTP-297 Multicam

All great choices.
