Remington RP45 Update?

I do not own one but I have shot both the RP9 and RP45 a fair amount. I liked them both. They are big, full-size handguns for sure. They fit my hand well and had comfortable ergonomics. The slide is probably a bit heavier than needed but they shot well for me. I am tempted to buy an RP9 and turn it into a Production or Carry-Optics USPSA gun but I am focusing on Limited at the moment.

I'm shopping for a dedicated night stand gun in .45 ACP and if the gun works it's quite a bargain, but I don't have a problem parting with one or two additional Ben Franklins for reliability.

I don't know what issues MAC had, but I own two of them, and they're fantastic pistols. I modified one of them, made a barrel extension to suppress it. The weight of the can hanging on it did cause feeding issues due to the rather sharp edge at the bottom of the feed ramp. A bit of careful work with a Dremel resolved that. Unsuppressed, neither pistol has had any issues with any ammunition from 650 FPS cream puff loads to hot +P.

Tim(MAC) has a case of the "red a$$" when it comes to anything Remington, that's very obvious if you watch his videos. He has a bunch Dolts as followers also, which again is very apparent if you read their comments.

Just watch him shoot any pistol other than a Remington. You'll see him grip all others properly and manage recoil for reliability. Not with the Remingtons. Take a look at the way he holds and fires the RP45. He limp-wrists the RP like a weak little girl and really tries to induce fails, which he manages to do. He has his clan of Dolts fooled, but not me. He's an idiot and a joke, plain and simple. The RP45, as anyone who's fired one knows, is an extremely flat shooting, very reliable 45.

So I searched out the video based on your response.
I do NOT see any intentional "limp wristing". You can see the red in his fingertips from a tight grip between shots.

I thought the same thing, I always thought MAC did a pretty good job on his reviews.

He pointed out a big flaw specifically in the ambidextrous aspect of the firearm that the metal connecting the two slide releases is too thin and doesn't allow one to drop the slide on the left side of the pistol (this was in his RP9 review I believe). He also showed rounds diving out of the mag on a full mag and one failure to clear the extractor (again on the RP9).

If you watch him starting at 7:30 you'll see what I'm talking about. Then compare his grip in his other videos.

I don't see limp wristing either, but I do find it curious that he is having to rebuild his grip after each shot. These are pretty soft shooting guns.

His issues with going into battery from slide lock would probably be averted by loading 14 rounds instead of 15. 15 is a real squeeze, and seating a fully loaded magazine with the slide closed requires a pretty good whack to the base plate. It's not the only firearm I've encountered where there is difficulty inserting the mag and some binding inside the magazine when loaded to max capacity. It's never caused a feeding issue for me, but for a number of reasons, not the least of which is a sore thumb, I only load 14 in my RP45 mags. That's still a lot of capacity in a .45, especially one that has less grip circumference than a Glock 9mm/.40 frame.

I had one. About 600 flawless rounds through it before I traded it away. Tried to induce malfunctions by shooting it sideways, upside down, etc to no avail. For $300, its an amazing bargain for a 15rd .45acp. I only ever shot Winchester service grade ammo though, I didnt try any other loads.

I purchased a Remington rp45 a few months ago and had the exact same problems that Mac mentioned with different types of ammo. Sent it back to the factory they sent it back after 5 weeks and said they replaced the slide. Took it to the range had the same problem. Called them & they sent me a new recoil spring and two extra magazines. The problem is better but failure to go into battery happens often and every now and then I get around that fails to go into the Barrel. Cleaning it & lubricating the hell out of it with Ballistol. If it still happens I will get rid of the gun.

After polishing all of the parts that were accessible including the feeder ramp I lubricated the whole gun slide and internal components as well as the magazine with Ballistol. I took it to the range today and fired 75 rounds without a single problem. 50 of service grade Remington Full Metal Jacket and 25 were Remington golden saber jacketed hollow point. I will keep it well lubricated with Ballistol after each cleaning and will do the same with the magazines which I think is very important.
