I'm curious what people consider to be an acceptable 25 yard 6 shot group.
I'm currently getting 2" at 35 yards resting my forearms on the porch railing.
Standing at 25 is holding between 4 and 5. Far from great, but I've only run 100 handgun rounds in revolvers in the last year.
These are my green dot handloads. That I just started loading.

Acceptable for what? Self-defense? Target shooting?

For SD use, that is very good. A drill that I use, and teach, is to put a 9" paper plate out as the target at various distances. If you are getting small groups then you are shooting too slow. If you can't keep all rounds on the plate, then you are shooting too fast. So, 9" at your chosen range is good enough for this purpose, but not for most target sports.

If you can hit what you need to hit, that’s acceptable.

There are people that are happy with “bang, bang, bang, etc”, regardless of group size. Then there are also folks that don’t like the fact they can’t make the smallest single hole group ever.

So acceptable is qualitative vs quantitative.

one inch per ten yards (offhand) is my goal. this is slow-fire for me. if your gun shoots two inches @ 35 yards, this goal is possible.

luck,

I use a similar drill for self defense with a 6" steel plate working back until one misses then moving forward untill all hit. I use a semi auto for that.

It depends what revolver you are shooting, but if you are getting a consistant 2"@35 yards rested and 4-5@25 yards, then you are a better shot than most likely 80% of gun owners out there.
It's a rock island attempt at the colt detective. I try to hold myself to a higher standard than average in anything I do. Obviously the RIA and I won't turn out bullseye level groups, so I was was wondering what the next step down people are ok with.

Accuracy is relative. Gun quality, barrel quality, ammo type and bullet type, the weather and so on all effect handgun accuracy. The numbers posted by the OP sound very good @25 yards.

A long time ago someone told me about the 5-5-5 drill.
Standing back to the target revolver in the holster.
Turn, draw and fire 5 rounds into a 5" circle in 5 seconds. When you accomplish that make the circle 4" , then shrink the time to 4 seconds and the like. It's not as easy as it sounds but it's good practice for trigger control because if you slap the trigger that circle shrinks quickly lol.

Warning, if you are not used to drawing a gun and firing quickly you should use an empty gun to practice drawing and not firing too soon. Never cover any part of your body, have someone watch you to be sure before you go live fire. I'm told a bullet in your foot does not feel good!

:what:Are you serious? That's only 6 MOA. You need to practice a lot more or get another gun.

Just kidding. :) Very few people can shoot that well. I know because I watch the unwashed masses shoot at 15 and 25 yds every week. Consider yourself in the top 25%. I would say 4 MOA ( 1" @ 25 yds) is exceptional, probably match level. Lots of people would love to be able to shoot a handgun that well.

38 Special's got nothing to do with it.:D

It's more like 16-20 moa if I'm standing.
I can hit a 6" plate at 100 with my berreta neos 8 out of 10 times. It has a dot sight though.

I sure wish I had the eyes to do that again with iron sights. With a reflex sight on a 686 I can make them about that small.
