I got this one a couple of days ago. I'd tried to ignore it. I need another 4", 357 like I need a hole in my head and this one was an "off brand" to boot. ;) :D

But I finally caved in.

Ruger Security-Six, from 1975. No warning barrel, which finally tipped the beam when I realized that. It also has a fantastic trigger. The fact that it was about 1/2 the cost of a similar condition Model 19 in the next case didn't hurt it either.

I had the opportunity to take it to the range earlier today. As expected it was a blast to shoot. I don't measure groups or anything, but I didn't shoot it any worse than I do any other gun. I put 50 rounds of my moderate 357/125 Berry's plated through it. The Ruger target grips might be a tad to small for my hand, but I doubt I'll change them. They look good, and I don't usually shoot 357 ammo anyway. I've got coffee cans full of 38's.

Oh, just kidding about the "off brand." Put those pitchforks and torches down. :)

There is nothing wrong with aany of the Six series Rugers. In fact, they are good shooters and they are considered collectible by many. That one looks to be in really nice shape.
Now pat yourself on the back for a job well done and go polish that bass boat with Pledge. I used to do that every time I pulled mine out of the water. Pledge is good stuff! :)

I don't mind the modern stub "grips", already heavy enough

I'm a traditionalist. I like a full grip frame.
Both types have their advantages.
With the stub tenon, you can just plug and play with many different commercially available grips.
With the full grip frame, you get that visible classy old school wood to metal fit with smaller "service revolver" style wood grips, if you want it.

Looks good thumbs up here

I had a 6" Security Six when I was in the Army back in the '80s.

It was a decent gun. I wish that Ruger had stuck with it and the Speed Six instead of the GP100. But then I hate full length ejector shrouds on anything but Pythons, Diamondbacks and Dan Wessons.

I have two of them both with 4" barrels. One is a first year 1972 150 serial number and the second one is a 151 serial number made in 1986 IIRC. I would like to have a model 19 but this gun is a good stand in for the 19. And they aren't for sale either.

Nice find on your gun. I would have bought it right then. No need to think about it. Thinking about it has cost me several guns I should have bought as soon as I saw them.

I had a pair of 6” barreled Security Sixes and sold them to ??? Got another pair of Speed Sixes with 4” barrels. Preferred them to the 6” ones. Sold them too. I might grab one if the price were right.

Yours looks fine!

Kevin

I certainly would be proud to own it. I'm in search for the 2.75" model now. I think Ruger got it right with the Security Six. I have owned 2 GP100's one each in 4" and 6" and was not impressed at all and one of the while the SP101 has a great following, I was equally unimpressed.

Well done, I like my Ruger and I like my Smith, looks fine to me. I suggest you do your usual shoot, enjoy, reload and shoot again. I might be just a little jealous

Terrific find! Wish I had held on to a couple of Security Sixes back when they were still in production. My favorite was the the blued 4" heavy barrel version.
