Anyone else try any Longshot with a 115 gr 9MM recipe? I loaded up some 115 gr RMR FMJ bullets over 5.6 gr of Longshot and they performed the best so far out of my G19 Gen 5. Hodgdon listed 5.0 min and 6.0 max. A Lee .43 bushing throws 5.6 gr and a .49 right at 6 gr.

So far I’ve tried WST, HP-38, Unique and HS-6 under them and until Longshot, HS-6 was leading the way.

Bottom line, Longshot performed so good I filled up the hopper and started 1K run on the Loadmaster.

Glad to hear it. I used to stock this powder for a lazer beam pheasant load in 12ga, and I may have need for that load again this fall. Versatility is a good thing, and good to know if I do stock it again, it will be worth a try in 9mm.

I purchased a few lbs back when powder was hard to find during the Obama days and use it primarily in .40 cal so I thought I’d give it a try in 9MM. Needless to say it was impressive enough that I’m rolling a bunch for range work.

I found it cycled well and burned fairly clean, I don’t remember the exact charge but I think I was using near 6 grains with a 115 gr bullet.
I’ve since switched to Autocomp, it burns a bit cleaner and meters better for me.

Remember it's nickname is "loudshot". It's a pretty slow powder on the chart but it does work. Takes a little more and from what I've heard it likes to be loaded on the upper end.

I've shot a few thousand rounds of 115 grain bullets over 5.6/5.7 grains of Longshot. Works great.

It's very loud in .45acp.

I bought it on clearance when there was a powder shortage. I tried it in my light loaded cast lead 9mm and it didn't work well. So now I have 2.9lbs of Longshot and nothing to load it in. Arbossman is right, it's slow and likes to be loaded hot. Probably a great 357mag powder.

when you say performed best, what exactly are your criteria? I have some and haven't tried it yet.

Grouping, cycling and recoil. Held the tightest group out of all the powders at 10 yards. Cycled the gun just fine and recoil was a good push with not much flash. Gun was a lot cleaner than shooting the HS-6 load as well.

I’ve been looking for a good load for GSSF activities and think I’ve found it.

I used to use it for it's ability to move 1 1/4 ounces of shot from a 12 ga. shotgun at warp speed. At the 50 yard plus games it delivers the goods. Very load with an afterburner effect. I gave 4 lbs of away when I quit reloading shot shells.

Kind of wish I had back because I've seen it being used as pistol powder more all the time. Never tried it tho.

Been using it in 9mm for 20+yrs now. Excellent velocities and accuracy.
Hard to beat in .40s&w, too.
Unmatched for heavy 20ga shotgun loads, birdshot, buckshot, and slugs.

I also use it in .45LC, and .327Federal.

Sounds like a good load, but gamer loads are nearly always better built using small-ish charges of fast powder. If you're trying to maximize every advantage, that is. If you're trying to replicate a carry load, that's a different matter.

My favorite full power 9mm load is 5.7 grains Longshot with a 124 grain bullet. Works superb.

It is a max load so I would recommend starting lower.

I like 5.5 grains of LS with 115gn Bayou coated RN and magnum primers.

Longshot was developed as a shotgun powder and it sounds like it. I don't use it because it's just too loud especially when shooting on indoor ranges. It works well in the 9mm, .38 Special +P, middle power .357 Magnums and more. It's just too loud for me.

I like LS in 38 Super also. I thought it was loud until I tried Power-Pistol, WoW!.

Longshot seems to work well on the high side of it's charge range in 9mm,
but it is LOUD, and flashy.:)
(I think it is louder and flashier than PP which is loud and flashy)

I don't know what PF you need to make for GSSF but a faster burn rate powder might be better suited, but then only you can tell what you like.
