Customs and Border Protection Chooses Glock as New Handgun

Like I said I have no experience at all with the p2000. I have a USP 40 and a MK 23. Are the border patrol guns DAO or DA/SA or is it fairly easy to make either way like the USP. my 40 has a pretty bad DA pull. Both have decent SA pulls but I'd still rank my 22x guns triggers better. And the worst crap 1911s I've used were easily better triggers.

Seriously??????? A 17 with a shorter dustcover is now a G47.

Glocks game is definitely pathetically played out.

Per USBP379 it has a LEM trigger

The P2000 ... but agents...really don't care for the trigger. It has a huge amount of slack with a 7# release that's clear at the back end of trigger travel. It is a hard trigger to get used to and is very unforgiving. ... the P2000 LEM trigger is simply harder to shoot than it should be.

My understanding is the P2000 trigger systems cannot be swapped around like the USP can, though I'd not expect the Border Patrol to allow it even if it were possible.

That's an opinion.
Profitably played out is a fact, like it or not.

Glocks are the Legos of handguns.

I find it sad that the rifles and handguns of the US military and gov't. agencies are being produced by foreign owned companies.

Seems to me like glocks models numbers have been multiplying faster and faster... maybe they’re hoping to hit triple digits by 2020..

You sure they didn't choose Glock because it was the lowest bidder? Standard MO for agency procurement.

Glock bids low and includes additional incentives like service parts and buy-backs of current issue d weapons.

My brother's agency switched from P226s and P229s to Gen 5 G17s and G19s.

He was also upset. Until he actually had to qualify with his new Glock and scored higher than he ever had with the Sigs. He now loves his Glock.

But he also bought back his P229 for $250.

As a little game, take all the post on this thread and replace the word Glock with Sig P320 and vice versa.You would probably not notice the difference. Same ole Glock/Sig fight just a different day. (want some real breaking news? I just ordered a Kahr CM9! (at least it excited me)

The authors thoughts on DA/SA pistols mirrors my own. It’s the reason I want a true DAO over a DA/SA. I’m concerned that if I were ever in a situation that required my handgun (and I pray daily it never happens) that after the incident I wouldn’t have the presence of mind to decock the hammer, or that in the stress of it all I could unintentionally pull the SA trigger. A light SA trigger of 3 or 4 lbs is so easy to set off...

I’ve liked Glock’s new models until this. This is just a weird 17.

Is there some reason they need a G45 frame with a G17 slide, but with a dustcover? This is a solution in search of a problem.

I love Glocks, but this is dumb.

I just hope they make a G26X...G17 grip and a G26 slide. Perfection.

I hear ya Brother. Just do not get how some folks not only want them, but so willing to take such a un-necessary risk. I will stick with DAO.

Pistols occasionally get dropped during fights and training. They probably didn't want a pistol that occasionally discharges when dropped.

Personally I think that they're better off with a DA/SA, but up to them.

Happens I carry and use Glock pistols more than any of the others that I own.

But it also happen that I was an LEO and a firearms instructor for my agency for a few years.

I learned the hard way that ANY agency buys its tools [ all of them ] on bidding AND favoritism.

So ,fact is any agency that adopts any gun ,is doing so for reasons that are not based on fact & evaluation.

But on the "bean counters ".

And who did the most favors for the purchaser

And it is not just firearms that that he Bean counters will sabotage. It is everything from light bulbs to vehicle parts and on and on. Quality is NOT in their play book.

The Glock 47 is not a solution looking for a problem, it wasn’t created to sell to the public. It is a gun designed specifically for one LE agency, presumably to their specs for the contract, which I guess it means it was CBP’s solution to their problem.

While it does have a G17 length slide, a G17 slide will not work on the Glock 47. The Glock 47 also has an MOS slide, which differentiates it from a regular Glock 17.

The only “problem” I can think of is that the light rail of a G17 was too long and CBP wanted a shorter rail, but a dustcover instead. That also doesn’t make much sense because the total length is the same as a 17. It’s got a minor aesthetic change.

A 17 or 17 MOS would’ve met the CBP requirements as well as this 47, so this is probably just all marketing by Glock to see if another model is in demand. It’s not for the public; neither was the 19X, but like the 19X, it will be available if enough people want it.
