Idaho might make it legal for 18-20 year olds to carry concealed in city

Somewhere in Idaho But on the move; AGAIN!
Not sure if they can carry a "peace" but yes, they can carry a "piece," better known as a "weapon," concealed outside of the city limits at this time and you know, there have been no gunfights in the mountains!:what:

And they can carry open anywhere in the state including in the cities at this time and no gunfights!:what:(And they have been able to obtain a permit to carry concealed anywhere in the state. Idaho Code: TITLE 18 CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS CHAPTER 33 FIREARMS, EXPLOSIVES AND OTHER DEADLY WEAPONS, 18-3302, (20).)

And I would bet a monthly OPM retirement check that after July 1, there won't be a sudden surge of gunfights in the streets of the Idaho cities.:D

So, I, and everyone I know that I have discussed this issue with, have had NO problem with this being the law. So I see no difference that after July 1, 18-20 year residents of this state can carry "legally" inside the city limits of the state of Idaho.

Humm
An 18 year old baby faced teenager carrying a peace concealed.
And people think that’s a good ideal ?
What about 18-20 year olds that have beards, serve in the military, are married, have children, have jobs, vote, drive, operate equipment, are volunteer firemen, don't need safe spaces, can spell and have excellent grammar?
Should they be allowed to have a "peace" concealed?

How about the 17 yr old with the crew served weapon? Why should they not be able to carry when off duty?

Thank you all for spell checking my early morning post.
Perhaps in the beautiful state of Idaho young people make better decisions however where I live in the drug infested and garbage ridden state of Wa. young people make horrible decisions every day. The nightly news is filled with it.
Military members are excluded from my thoughts and comments.
Happy Easter BTW

Stupid, careless, or criminal does not automatically vaporize from a human psyche on one's 21st birthday...

Just saying...

We have our druggies here in Idaho, but they are not just in the 18-20 year range they go all the way up in age. And have to believe that WA has thousands of responsible 18-20 year old citizens as so does every state in the union.
To withhold a right for an 18-20 year old cause a few make horrible decisions would mean the same should apply to those over 21 since, since we all know those over 21 can make the same horrible decisions. That's comes straight out the liberal playbook, if one gun owner is bad, then they all must be bad.

The big difference around here is what I already noted, they could already carry concealed without a permit outside a city limit and open carry inside a city limit. And that is really not practical in a state where approx. 80 percent of the land is outside of a city limit (heck 63 percent of Idaho lands are federally managed and that does not count just county and private lands). So easy to drive from a county into and out of a city in seconds on the interstate. And where I live, if I walk from my street I live on and turn left, go across the street, I walk into a city and there are NO signs stating that fact cause it is out in the country.

I'm a Free Man once again. Sold my semi-auto rifles to beat the W state ban that's always around
every corner. The my Hi-cap pistols., my ruger revolver and more.

Then gave up on my failing 20 year relationship, and moved back to Const. Carry IDAHO.

When you are not goood at burning bridges, it will be on thing in your life
that you are glad you failed at.

Thus, even though I've been a bad person in the past, I try to make amends through
my Savior.

Now that I'm with few assets, I have HIS love and guidance and also, more than a few people
willing to help me out if needed.

I have a few options but am thinking MCall, Idaho would be the best for myself and 10 year
old dog,

I think freedom is the first priority. We can't trade freedom for security.

I also have some concern about immature persons creating a security risk. I don't think concealed carry adds significantly to this risk. But I do have a concern about the accessibility of any firearms for immature persons. An arbitrary age limit is a poor qualifier. Because we have the same arbitrary age limit for voting, military service, and the adult criminal justice system, it would be hypocritical to legislatively deny firearms, prostitution, gambling, alcohol, and tobacco with a different age limit.

There does not seem to be a practical qualifier that has a reasonable chance of being substituted for the arbitrary age limits that are in place. People only seem to be debating shifting them up and down.

Education and training seem to be conducive to producing the maturity and skill we'd like to see, but they should not be a barrier to rights and liberty. Rather than mandatory classes as prerequisites to government permission, I would prefer to see a proliferation of highly-accessible education and training in firearms. While I believe parents have the primary responsibility and role for this training, I'm not confident that many, even most of them are properly equipped for it. High-accessible training could be on-campus training at high schools (before, during, or after hours). It could be at public ranges. It could be through 4H -- but their current programs of rimfire rifle and shotgun aren't enough. There needs to be training in centerfire pistol and AR-style carbine.

No one should be turning 18 in this country without at minimum the kind of training that comprises a full day CCW class, full day Hunter Safety Training class, and with significant range time with a pistol and carbine and an instructor. Again, I'm not saying it should be mandatory, but highly-accessible. Highly-accessible could be "free" or paid for by Pittman-Robertson type funds -- in other words, they'd pay for it with their purchase. It could also be charged on the principle of ability to pay. In other words, pay for it if you can, if you can't or won't then we'll find some generous donors that need a place for their money other than Lapierre and Ackerman McQueen's pockets.

Confused:confused:

How do 18 year olds get a handgun at age 18 and are able to carry one. Idaho Law trumps federal law?
A Licensed Dealer can not sell them one (per ATF) so they can get one from a nonlicensed person??

https://www.atf.gov/resource-center/minimum-age-gun-sales-and-transfers

Not all gun sales take place at a dealer. A FFL can't transfer a weapon other than a rifle or shotgun yo someone below 21, but federal law sets the minimum age of possession of handguns at 18 (USC 922(x)).

So an adult who has not yet reached the age of 21 can purchase (or build) a handgun in any legal way that does not require a transfer through a FFL (so face to face transaction, gift, etc).

Telekenesis basically summed it up.
However, the link you posted tells you how an 18 or older can obtain a handgun.
And I'm pretty sure that there are more 19-20 year olds in FL who have handguns and carry them all the time. Many sheriff departments will hire someone 19 or older and then issue them a handgun and that most likely includes FL.

Yes a 18 year can Obtain a handgun but not carry it.

You must be 21 years of age to obtain a concealed carry permit in Florida. There is NO open carry for anyone.

Florida recently changed the age fro 18 to 21 for ALL long guns if purchased from a licensed dealer, but in their wisdom a person under 21 can purchased a rifle from a private party.

From what I have read, Orange County, Florida allows 20 and older to be sworn Deputies, and Broward County allows 19 year olds to be sworn Deputies. Therefore, if sworn LE deputies, they can carry a gun and are under the age of 21.

Broward County
Certified Law Enforcement Deputy Sheriff
Minimum Requirements

  1. Minimum age of 19 years.

That's nice, we are not taking about LEOs in Florida. You are talking about Idaho non LEOs, Especially Broward County, Home of Parkland (Broward) Sheriff now ousted by the Governor

Probably exemptions for active Military. I don't know.

That is incorrect. An 18-20 year old person can legally obtain and carry a handgun in Idaho. Only difference now is that after July 1st. they'll be able to carry it concealed inside of city limits without a permit.
