Ruger American: 7.62x39 or 300 blackout?

Been reading the other Ruger American thread about the 7.62x39, and I love the x39 in a bolt gun. I have a cz 527 carbine that I love, but its almost too nice to knock around with. I also shoot and load for 300 blk in an ar, and I find the two similar but not equal. I like them both.

That said, for a knock around rifle, which American rifle would you prefer, the x39 or the 300 blk and why?

why not get a synthetic stock or the cz,

Other than the mags the rifles themselves are darn near identical, and I would use the same low power optic on both, but it may wear a suppressor from time to time. I do load for both so super or sub is no problem.
 
7.62x39 can do everything 300 Blackout can do. And it is more powerful.

The only thing the Blackout might be better for is using .308" diameter bullets.
 
Unless you're going to suppress. . . almost everything points to 7.62x39 for a bolt gun. Energy, ammo cost, ammo availability, brass availability, etc.

Odd-diameter bullets is kind of a bummer, but they're still easy to find.
 
I have a RAR in 300 BLK that I shoot suppressed with subsonics. I have pellet guns that make more noise than this thing. The Hornady SUB-X dropped a deer nicely with it this past season. It is also very accurate without the can using 125 grain soft points, and a very short overall length. My only concern is Mrs FL-NC wants to appropriate this as her deer rifle.
 
You guys are making it really easy to justify another 7.62x39.... Another thought about this for those who have played with both: Are the mags for the x39(mini thirty mags) from ruger comparable quality wise to an ar mag? Its been so long since I handled a mini thirty mag I cant remember...
Edit: I know most aftermarket mags used to be junk, but are the factory 20 round mags good quality? I have handled the mag that comes with the American and it seemed ok.

Both of my 7.62x39 AR's don't care if it's a 308 or a 310 bullet in it. One actually shoots best with a .308 135 FTX. And case taper in the AR-15 is hogwash use caliber specific mags and they work just fine. I use 10 round ASC mags, and with 600-700 rounds fired of all different ammo types I've yet to have a jam or malfunction.
 
300blk if shooting supressed is a major draw for you.

7.62x39mm for EVERYTHING ELSE. Just so nice to have ample med game killing power or plinking ammo so plentiful and so cheap. You can handload and make it a formidable round or just buy one of the dozens of brass or steel cased junk for $4-$5 a box and shoot at dirtclods all day.

10 round c products mags here and never had a malfunction. Actually the most reliable AR I've had lol. I hear the larger c products mags work well also but I've no use for more than 10 being its just a farm and hunting rifle.

This has been my experience with my cz. It'll shoot 308 bullets every bit as accurately as 311 bullets, and is really fun with light loads and 100 grn half jacket bullets for plinking.

This is where I finally arrived. I enjoyed reloading my Lapua brass for the 7.62x39 and built some very accurate and powerful loads. But for what I primarily use it for - shooting feral pigs and training new shooters - the $5-6/box ammo is more than adequate. I can't load for that little.
