Just saw this on Facebook, looks like Henry is now offering a side gate rifle in 30-30 and 38-55

https://www.americanrifleman.org/ar...the-new-henry-side-loader-lever-action-rifle/

It still has the tube loading feature so it should make both camps happy. I thought it interesting on making a 38-55 as well. Personally I don’t mind the tube loading but I know many prefer the side gate. Be curious to see how long before they offer it in the other calibers.

Took them long enough...

Maybe I'll actually give their stuff a look now.

That rifle on the link is puuurrty, maintaining the use of the tube magazine removal and loading was probably a manufacturing decision on their part, less change in manufacturing processes. I just couldn't get behind a lever mimicking the '94 without a loading gate.

I was excited and wanted to like it but my eyes keep drifting over to the end of the mag tube and the unnecessary bits hanging out on the end. I don't like or want the loading sleeve. I think keeping both was a big mistake and frankly tone deaf on their part.

I like the loading sleeve. Growing up with a Win 94, I never did like having to work all the ammo through the action to unload it. Much safer to have the sleeve and I don't think it looks too awful. I have other issues with the appearance of Henry rifles, but the loading sleeve/tube isn't one of them.

I would prefer it not to be there as well, but can understand their thoughts from a manufacturing point.

I'm pretty excited about this. It's the only thing I dont like about my current Henry. That and they don't call it something dumb like "Big Boy"...

Hopefully they offer new chamberings soon.

Winning!

Smart move to keep both even if it adds a bit of weight. No sense appeasing those of us who want a side gate only to piss off those who don't care. Three great caliber choices. .35 Rem is a great NE deer and bear cartridge and it must be great on hogs. That's a very nice looking rifle. Well done, Henry.

This is the first I've heard of it..... Thanks for posting. Very interesting but I'm not in the market for one and even without the side gate I would have bought one if I were in the market for a 30-30 lever gun. Lack of a side gate wouldn't have stopped me because it's primarily a hunting gun and it has never bothered me to tube load my Henry 22 lever without a gate. There's two Henrys in my safes; the .22 lever and a single shot .308 and I'm becoming somewhat of a fan. Regardless of how they get loaded.
