I heard that logic in the last election. It's not going to work to keep your RKBA. For me it's not one or the other and you can't buy my vote with it. It didn't work in the last election and it won't in the next one.

Well, I've been able to buy AR-15's and 30 round magazines as well as any semi-auto pistol I like in the last several years ... Unfortunately all of those were lost in that horrible boating accident

Also, I didn't question your vote, only your specious logic ... for which I assume you have no answer. Flip a coin for your vote, it will have the same meaning ... or don't vote. Not my problem.

I was very surprised at how fast NRA and President moved on the bump stock.

I was fully expecting, "Let's talk about this" and wait for the intensity of the shooting response to die down because it seemed like a knee-jerk reaction to the LV shooting. Perhaps there have been changes in NRA upper leadership directives that members don't know about? NRA's response to bump stock, like for me, probably have many people wondering and asking especially in light of North resigning as president of NRA. Perhaps NRA could do a "refresh/reset" and reassess where they are and where they are going.

I would LOVE to see NRA and President Trump focus more on "expanding" gun rights instead of responding.

If you're referring to what Trump did, he didn't do anything to insure my right to purchase a semi-auto rifle. That's the domain of congress, the courts and the state legislatures. Obama would dearly loved to have seen AWB2 enacted and he even promoted it. Did it happen, nope. The states you cited enacted those restrictions themselves and the courts gave them a pass.

I would love to see some honest factual information concerning the the Las Vegas operation. I don't think the reported "facts" fit the reality of the situation very well.

As for labels, they are generally applied according to the viewers perspective. I am sure that some here would call me a right wing radical while others would call me a moderate, but I base my judgements on the founding father's intent in writing a document that would keep well educated and industrious men free, for which we owe them everything we are now surrendering. "Progressive" is the proper term to describe those who seek to destroy the Constitution and Second Amendment today. To understand the roots of that one must go back in history and read bout Woodrow Wilson, Teddy Roosevelt, and FDR to understand why the highly educated who only mean well do things that are destructive to Liberty.

I can't speak for what really happened between North and LaPierre but take a look at this video.

At 1:00 minute mark of video, LaPierre does not defend the bump stock which was legal at the time of Las Vegas shooting (Yes, Obama APPROVED bump stock! Good grief). Why would NRA go out of their way and help the antis? To me, each time a particular gun or a gun accessory is taken away and made illegal, it's an erosion to our gun rights and 2A.

In 2010, BATF ruled that bump stocks were not a firearm subject to regulation and allowed their sale as an unregulated firearm part. Why help change this?

Instead of a complete ban, I believe a discussion should have taken place and at worst, made bump stock like a NFA item. I was shocked and in disbelief that NRA and Trump "supported" bump stock ban. And bump stock is now banned, another win for antis and a loss for us.

What if the LV shooter used legal silencers? Would you expect NRA to come out supporting or arguing against legal silencers?

For now I have joined the GOA as of last night. Not giving up on the NRA but very troubling to read all the non support from them and North not like or defending AR style rifles. I don't own one but it's not the evil villain in America. Just spreading out my support and options. I hope this turns out better.

I think some members will pull their donations from NRA and divert to other 2A organizations.

If/when that reflects on the amount of donations they receive and/or cancellation of memberships, NRA has a decision to make. What will NRA do to attract members back and increase donation intake?

I believe next test for NRA is the binary trigger.

My reason is that he has let the lobbying arm spend a lot of money on commercials and social media on things that aren’t directly gun related. Paying Dana Loesch to tell me why socialism is bad is just plain malfeasance IMO. That money could have been spent having Dana tell soccer moms why CCW legislation benefits them.

Yeah. Read the fine print on her 3-point gun plan. It's a huge nothingburger: (1) "Universal background checks" -- she would require people that sell more than 5 guns a year to, in effect, get FFL's. This is not a UBC like the one that was recently enacted in Washington State. In fact, it seems to me that this would facilitate millions more people in becoming "kitchen table" FLL's, if the only criterion was selling 6 guns a year. (2) Closer monitoring of FFL's who break the law. Nothing new here. (3) Tweaking the definition of "fugitive from justice." Inside baseball.

Notably missing is any mention of an AWB. Or of a real UBC system.

Contrast this to Beto O'Rourke's position on an AWB -- he would "ban" them, but allow complete grandfathering. "Use your AR-15 safely and responsibly." Again, a nothingburger, in view of the fact that there are millions and millions of AR's extant.

All this talk of gun control by the leading Democratic candidates is pandering to the base, to get votes in the primaries. It's going to be dropped like a hot potato once someone gets the nomination. The reason is simple: to beat Trump, the Democrats must carry the Rust Belt states of Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, and/or the Sun Belt states of Florida and Arizona. You can't win any of those states if you piss off gun owners, of whom there are plenty.

You are not going to like this, but if that is the worst Kamala Harris would do, it ain’t too bad at all. If that is the price of an honest, truthful, socially conscious and economically intelligent president, I would pay that in a heartbeat. Background checks? C’mon. That isn’t even a serious attack on the 2A. Not in my book anyway.

It's a matter of degree. The 2020 Democratic candidate can't afford to piss them off as much as Hillary Clinton did in 2016. If the Dems can win back at least the Fudds in those states, they can call it good. After all we're only talking about a few thousand votes.

My "red line" is an AWB. That isn't happening, even if the Democrats win the presidency and nominal control of the Senate (which in itself is a very long shot). But this could engender a nice panic. So there's that.

Should I fight attacks on aspects of the 2A that have no relevance for me? Or should I let my own interests be my guide. For example, I have no use for assault weapons. I could care less what happens to them. It will never matter to me. Do I have to fight for them because I believe in private gun ownership and a AWB is on the slippery slope. I dunno. I’m open to reason but so far not convinced.

Now that the problems within the NRA has been made public I think there will be calls by members for accounting of it's finances and business dealings. LaPierre may have survived this round but the handwriting could be on the wall for his departure.
