I have been studying the new Ruger 10/22 from their custom shop and now Bergara has a rifle.

I friend of mine participates in a monthly 22 LR competition and I told him that this year I would get an entry level rifle and go practice with him, thus my interest.

Don’t have anything to say other than it’s a blatant ripoff of Thompson Center’s rip off of the 10-22

Why the hate? Nobody bashes Colt or stag for "ripping off" armalites ar15. Nobody bashes Wilson combat for "ripping off" colts 1911. Nobody bashes bergara for ripping off the model 700.

Designed are copies all the time. Intellectual property runs out. Ruger has a great design with the 10/22, but they let it stagnate and now that the patents have expired people are building better ones. Ruger kept raising the price and dropping the build quality. And there is no excuse for never develpping a last round bolt hold open. I for one am thrilled there are better options coming to market. I could have bought this instead of buying a 10/22, tossing the stock and barrel, buying new stock and Kidd barrel fixing the trigger and mag release etc.

No hate. Actually planning on get the Thompson Center. All good designs eventually get copied.

Will be nice assuming it is accurate.

I just don’t get the 10/22 thing. You buy a rifle, throw away 90% of it, then get all excited because it has above mediocre accuracy. And it’s worth the same or less than when you started.

And yes, I’ve owned a 10/22. If you wanna turn money into noise they’re OK.

Anybody know if the receiver/barrel is threaded, pinned or a copy of the 10/22 system?

The barrel and receiver are threaded to improve accuracy, but the receiver is backwards compatible to non-threaded Ruger slip fit style barrels that are held in place using the V-block clamp. There's also a hole at the rear of the receiver aligned with the bore to allow access for a cleaning rod. The barrels from Bergara are very good so I'd be surprised if many would want to unscrew a good barrel and fit another barrel, but having the backwards compatibility does give the end user more options regardless of whether they use that feature or not.

Colt bought the rights to the design and name AR-10 and AR-15, didn't rip anything off.

I think it's kinda cool when the patents expire and you see what another company can do with a design. Instead of making a part for part clone of a design, many companies make some pretty interesting improvements and variations on a theme.

Just when I was trying to decide between a CZ 457 and a Tikka T1.

From their website:
BXR Base Model – Part Number BXR001 BXR 22LR Semi-Auto Rifle Crome Molly Cerakoted Barrel MSRP – $565

BXR Carbon – BXR002 BXR 22LR Semi-Auto Rifle Carbon Fiber Barrel MSRP – $659

I don't need another 10/22 (I think) but it looks good.

That's not how I'd characterize it, unless you just get a cheap barrel. Expecting a hundred dollar barrel to do much is a bit absurd. The more realistic, glass-half-full version is that you get to buy a used $150 carbine, install a $200 barrel, do some trigger mods and you have a semi-auto that shoots with good bolt actions. That you can do everything you need to with it in a matter of minutes, with common hand tools.

Wonder if you are going to toss the parts bin at it to make it work.
Contrary to your biased, inflammatory and jaded opinion, most 10/22's work right out of the box.

Fixed fer ya....ti does put stuff on it most people hang on them to bring it to an acceptable level.

Barrels will have a .22LR Bentz chamber and will be made in Spain. Bergara makes a very nice button rifled barrel so accuracy will be very good to excellent. The bore is polished prior to buttoning so the finish is really nice.

I had one. Went “bang” every time. If that’s an acceptable level of performance then you’re good to go

What astounds me is when someone scraps the barrel, sights, trigger, stock, and sometimes the BCG and still calls it a 10/22. Key bra like taking off a radiator cap, driving a different car unde, and still thinking it’s still the same car
