IMG_20190507_195220.jpg IMG_20190507_195442.jpg IMG_20190507_195317.jpg I just recently picked up three nice revolvers locally. A 3 screw Ruger Single Six, birthdate 1969, not transfer barred. A S&W 34-1 22, and an old S&W nickle 38 special with a 5 inch barrel. I posted in the S&W date of mfgr thread to get ages on the two Smith's. The 38 is double action only. The hammer will not stay cocked. It does have a smooth DA trigger. I know also that it probably is pre heat treated so soft loaded lead rounds only. I know, pictures or it didn't happen

Congrats on the new-to-you additions. Thank goodness for 38 special wadcutters and older revolvers. Staying with mild loads is smart. I have a 1950s version of the Single-Six. Love the balance and it still does the job. Have fun.

Digging that nickel S&W a lot!

Eddie in the S&W date thread thinks it is a 1907 model. Which definitely makes it non heat treat. It locks up tight and has a smooth DA trigger. Will shoot it with some mild was cutter loads to see how it does. Don't really need it as a shooter, but the price was too good to pass up.

Nice revolver trio! Like the nickel plated S&W too, especially with those grips!

There were actually 3 other guns in this purchase. A "Western six" by Kimmel something or other, a 4 barrel 22 short derringer type with rotating firing pin, and a single shot break open 22 short by j Stevens I think. I could post pics of those if anyone is interested.

I am always interested in gun pics. Please do post them.

The Stevens break open has considerable value ! probably close to $400 . Ill give you $250 for the pepperbox, I want a .22lr one but that one will do!
The ,22 SA looks like a nice fun toy! Congrats on your score.

Thanks for the offer, but the Wife likes it. When my wife likes a gun, which is rare, we keep it. Thanks again for the offer. Let me know if you can point me to more information about the J Stevens single shot. Seems like it was made in the late 19th to early 20th centuries.

The Stevens single shot looks like a Diamond No 43.
First issue 1886-1896 has nickel plated brass frame with sideplate (last 5000 without sideplate), second issue 1896-1906 has plated iron frame without sideplate and serial number over 26000.

Serial number is 19649 on the bottom side flat of the barrel. 15573441304451046916703221278102.jpg 15573441704118293320171915483674.jpg 15573441928486099417379126349821.jpg
There doesn't seem to be a side plate. Thanks for the information. Not sure what I am going to do with this one yet. I am not a collector per se. Maybe the kids will be.

According to Flayderman, that makes it a late First Issue. Worth a bit. I wouldn't shoot it with anything but CB Short or Long depending on the chamber. But I would feel like I had to try it out with that.

I have some CB shorts, I imagine it won't hurt its value if I try it. Will shoot it this afternoon.

So it fires, those sights are so small I can barely see them. So I didn't hit what I was aiming at . People back then must have had much better eyesight than I do. I think I am going to find someone that wants this more than I do. Thanks all for the information.

GunBroker is your friend. You can use hi speed .22 shorts in that Uberti made Navy Arms pepper box.
What are high speed 22 shorts? I was unaware anything like that existed. Gonna look those up. Thank you Gordon.

Well tho there actually were " hi speed" shorts with a 15 grain composite plaster/lead dust bullet at 1700 fps ! For " gallery use" , I wasn't talking about those long obsolete loads but was referring to full power .22 short ammo. That Uberti is proffed for such no sweat if gun still licks up well, no need to run cb ammo. The .22 short hp is surprisingly strong on mini pistols as the powder burn in a short barrel is good. Just in case your wife REALLY likes it :)

Thanks Gordon. I just got done looking those up. If she ever decides she doesn't like it, you get first dibs. Will even give you a better deal than you asked for.

Definitely hit another Trifecta with the other three handguns you got! Something for everybody with these six!

Just don't ask me the price I paid, you will be sick. I feel a little guilty, but full disclosure, I asked what they wanted for them, and gladly paid it. You would never believe it anyway...

Nothing wrong with a good deal. As long as the seller is happy don’t feel guilty, enjoy your new guns!
