My Hog Life

So, this lil sow was about 8-9 months old, been eating my corn since birth. I have been feeding multiple generations of hogs for over 10 years now. Its gotten to where when I throw the corn out, here they come. They’ll come within 20 yards, little ones maybe 10.

This video was from this morning, ol boarhog just growls, (if I can get it to load)

HOTDOG! It WORKED! Those pigs were 20 yds from me, i had thrown out a five gallon bucket of corn and turned empty bucket upside down and was just sitting there. They’ve gotten where as long as I dont make any sudden moves, they go about there business

Boy, I've never seen a wild hog with that much fat on them. Ours down here are about as fat as a leather belt. Mostly not worth foolin' with.

I had to buy pork fat to mix with the last hog I shot just to make sausage.

You need to pop that boar in the ear with your .17 HMR before he makes you sorry you didn't. I had one send me to the E.R. for 28 stitches.
In fact, I'd use a 12 ga. with 00 buckshot on that whole group.

These are corn fed, about 75-100 lbs a day. Then i harvest one as needed. This bunch is just getting settled in with me being around them while they eat. And Alabama just passed a law legalizing hunting deer and hogs over corn, just a 15 $ add on to your hunting license. I just retired in march , so I have more time to fool with this bunch, but prob this week, i will bust that ol boarhog. I have my grandfather’s browning lite 12, and some 1 pz slugs that my father had purchased in the 60’s, when he thought he might deer hunt. Gonna harvest him with that set up, have him mounted with the fired casing in his mouth, holding it open.

My lil marlin vs 17hmr, she wasnt 20 yds away.
Very cool. Contrary to prevailing opinion, you don't need safari dangerous game rounds to kill a pig, as you know. My go-to is one of my AR15's. Of course, for a bunch like that at 20 yards, I think I would use my mossberg 12 gauge auto full of buckshot and treat it like an area target.

If I knew a boar like that would be around I would probably have my AR10 or 12ga Deerslayer.

Smaller ones are just fine to take with a rimfire. A few months back I ran into a guy in the public land I hunt who had just shot a 150lb boar with a 17HMR through the lungs even.

I'm glad you brought that up. I got a notice from Alabama stating that it's now legal IF everyone hunting over bait pays them a fee. (Non-residents pay $51.00). For scores of years it has been illegal to hunt over bait or salt but now you can pay your way out of jail by paying off the state.

It's either legal or illegal and money should have nothing to do with it. It would be the same backasswards thinking to say you can speed IF you pay a fee prior to getting caught going 90 mph.
