Trying to locate a rear sight for a Winchester Model 70 made in 1970. Winchester no longer carries this nor does Jack First who they referred me to. Does anyone know a source for this rear sight whether OME or after market? Thanks, Byron

One screw into barrel or two?

Are you talking about one of these rear sights? There are two screw holes on the side of the receiver.

This is a Lyman 48 WJS.

I think Redfield made a 57 WJS. Both of these you will have to find on ebay or gunbroker.

Here is a complete set front and rear on ebay

There are seperate rear sights of the one screw type available (later model oem) but I only see the complete two screw type with front and rear available on ebay right now.

I am sure they will show up there and you might be able to find them even now with a more thorough search.

I believe the OEM two screw rear sight was manufacture by Williams Sight Company as the "Williams Guide Open Sight" but it came in many different sight heights and barrel radiuses.

Bryon,
Do you want an original type rear sight which is fastened to the barrel (like the one on ebay, OEM ) or the one pictured in this thread (fastened to the receiver, aftermarket)???

OEM is what I looking for. Getting ready to look at the one on EBAY. Thanks

I am pretty sure the later model one screw rear sight would work, the second screw would be hidden by the base of the sight, and the later sight is much more elegant, precise, easier to adjust, and folds for scope use.

Slamfire's receiver sight would be the very best if you do not intend to mount a scope, but often requires wood removal even if your receiver is drilled and tapped.

With what ever you get, do not be sirprised that you need to change the front sight blade to regulate the rifle, just too many variables like featherweight, lightweight, carbine, sporter, heavy, ect. ... out there to assume you will get the exact combo right the first time.

A Williams WGRS-70 with aperture, screwed into the rear scope base holes will work also if you don't plan on mounting a scope.

Thanks for all the help. No OME was available. I sold the rifle for a fair price.
