Do I send it back to Ruger?

Do you only have one magazine? The usual suspects are ammo and the magazine. Ammo seems to be out as the cause of the problem.

While it never hurts to try another magazine I can't remember an instance of failure to extract caused by the magazine.

My first thought is extractor. If it was a 1911 I would walk him through some quick tips to check it for correct tension but that's about the only pistol I can set without the correct tool and know it will function 100%.

That's if it's a "train" jam (Case at least partially in chamber with round behind attempting to feed ).

Train jam. I've never heard that before, but that's exactly what's happening. I agree, with a 1911 I would replace the recoil spring and/or tweak the extractor. I'm not messing with this little gun. She's already on her way back to NC.

I'm hoping they email or send back a note on what went wrong and what was replaced. Kind of curious.

I feel like I probably know the LCP about as good as anyone, having actually destroyed many with a lot of rounds fired through them. First of all they are very reliable little guns. They will eat most any ammo. But they are very "Snappy". Number 1 cause of failure is "limp Wristing". Number two is a bad magazine, If I picked up one today and had a failure that would be the first thing I would do. Use a different Mag, or load the bad magazine and not fill to full capacity. On all my guns, I load the mags to full capacity and let them take a "set" for 48 hrs. Bad magazines do cause failures in the LCP. Always try and new one.
Remember that the gripping power is the two fingers between the fore finger and the little finger. The finger extensions IMO are designed to aid in pulling the gun out of holster faster. They do not need a lot of pressure when firing the gun. And be sure to not ride the slide. It does not take much to slow it down.
I was on the LCP forum for years, shot these guns since the day they first started selling them. Saw many returned only to find out it was the Mag. Many times it would be the first thing customer service would suggest if a owner was having a issue.
Pocket guns are NOT hard to shoot. But there is a unique learning curve and they take a lot of practice and diligent training. Train often with them and they can Perform better than most people realize. Most people will not do the training required.

All that said, Ruger will fix the issue. Shoot them a lot and kill one, they will replace it. Welcome to the world of Pocket guns.

If its new, and doesnt run, out of the box, send it in.

I have always wondered what the cost is, on guns going back to the manufacturer for the most frivolous reasons? Ruger use to send out a second magazine. I guess they figured that was too costly due to the fact that many will send in a gun because they Limp wrist it, or used bad ammo or even some of the most stupid reasons, like they cannot shoot it accurately. Just send it in. Welcome to the new generation of shooters. I wonder what the cost is to all Ruger fans is, in the Long run? Shipping both ways, handling the gun, testing the gun and magazine. Yep, just send it in.

Id imagine it is cheaper than a dedicated QC department.. Ruger out produces every other manufacture so I am sure its a numbers game to them.

Hardly a new shooter.

I have never understood people, usually shooter, are so reluctant to send a non functioning gun in for repairs.

If its NEW and doesnt work....send it in till it does.

Would you buy a new car and upon getting home discover the wondshield wipers dont work, get on a internet forum and ask, or take it back to the dealership??

If its NEW and doesnt work, return it were it came from till it works!!

Before I sent it back, I would video the gun firing using my iPhone and see if I can understand the malfunction. I am fortunate enough to have a range with a shelf that lets me prop the phone up on a bag at the correct angle.

It's the 10th anniversary model that seems to be the culprit. They made some sort of tweak to it internally compared to the standard model. I'm finding quite a bit of other FTE reports on the 10th anniversary LCP. If you Google it, it seems all the posts by the people who bought them are having FTE's.

Anticipating you get your pistol working reliably soon.

I got the pistol back Wednesday. So 2 weeks after it left my house including weekends and Memorial Day. Free shipping. Awesome turn around.

I got a packing slip from Ruger that states:

•Items replaced: Slide assembly and barrel.
After repair, Firearm was function fired with 24 rds of Lawman 95gr ammo without malfunction.

I fired a box (50) of 95gr Winchester white box through it. I held it loose, limp wristed, a couple "mag dumps", anything I could think of to jam this gun up. Functioned flawlessly. I'm going to run a couple more boxes through it before I'm comfortable carrying it.

This is a great result. My NIB 2009 vintage LCP had a similar issue. When field stripped the extractor would not hold a cartridge against the breech face. I suspect yours like mine was just milled wrong. Ruger replaced my slide and barrel as well, and it worked great after that. Going on 10 years :)

Man Fats,
I am glad they took care of the problem. Ruger is a good company and hey make good products.
I'm not totally crazy about thier autoloaders. Not just from this small experience, but in general. However, I love thier revolvers and thier customer service. I'm considering trying out thier Ranch Rifle.

Either way, good company, great CS. Seems like they just keep expanding thier line-up. Pretty great.

Mn Fats

Great to hear they got it back to you and that it's up and running okay. Like the saying goes: so far, so good!

Sorry if I missed it, but has anyone asked the OP if he CLEANED that new gun to remove the factory gunk? If not, do that first, then change ammo; lastly have someone else shoot it. IF after all that it still malfunctions, call Ruger. My LCP has been flawless with a wide variety of ammo as to function - although it definitely prefers certain brands over others.

He did all of that, then sent it to Ruger who replaced the top end and returned it to him.

Missed it, or skipped reading? To anyone looking for an LCP 10th Anniversary dated 2018, I stripped it, cleaned it, lightly re lubed it (as I do with every new gun) and stepped outside to my range and got FTE's right out the gate. Make no mistake, this wasn't a user error. This was a manufacturer error. Ruger corrected it. And fast.
