We reached the same conclusion.

It got to the point where everyone I worked with was either victims of burglary/robbery or knew a family member/friend who was. Myself personally was burglarized several times. On one burglary, had wife returned from the dog park a little earlier, could have been a robbery victim as two gang members (One on probation) ransacked the house - Fortunately they were caught but unfortunately, they plea bargained so police could pursue higher up members in the gang. This was during 2008-2014 when there was a lot of empty houses due to foreclosures and squatters moved into these empty houses. House across from our house was squatted by no less than 2-3 families who stripped the inside of house clean with everything, including copper electrical wiring. Multiple inmates were paroled to the house and there were at least 1-2 police raid every week where 5-8 patrol cars showed up and brought out long line of suspects and took a few for outstanding warrants. We had long chats with police along with neighbors and formed neighborhood watch group but police told us squatter/crime trend was all over the city. We put up welded steel fencing completely around our property and even with 3 guard dogs, after wife got threatened by one of the squatters, she carried two pistols on person at all times even inside the house/backyard.

The day we finished packing up the moving truck and drove away, there was probably the largest police raid on the squatter house. We left as more and more police cars kept showing up to take away the suspects.

PM sent.
That's a scary situation to be in. Glad you all got out of there.

Everyone has an opinion.
My Elderly Mom doesn't use a pistol or a carbine at all.
Carry - SP101 Ruger
HD - Remington 1100 LW 20 Ga w/ #1 Buck

Having once owned an MP5 that would be my suggestion if you have the budget. Today automatic weapons are cost prohibitive for most of us.

One of the wonderful things about living in the sticks is all of the videos about "invasions" in neighborhoods in the city or suburbs are mute. Doesn't mean we cant have intruders out here but realistically it's not the same worry.

Back on topic a pistol is my primary HD weapon. G17 with a 18.5" 12g loaded with slugs as a back up. Yeah I have a AR ready to go but that's for the govt if they come knocking under harsh times.

Some folks have absolutely no idea what kind of noise is going to erupt with the chosen firearm. Maybe all of you sleep with muffs on but I doubt it. A non magnum pistol is going to be bad enough on the ears, a shotgun worse. But an AR or even worse a pistol length AR might just render you unable to continue your defense after the first shot.

I know I'm not going to let something like that off in my house for a burglar or three when I have other means.

Its certainly a free country though....

Oh, and the whole "clearing " your house thing really needs to stop. I understand getting to your kids but if you bought or built a house with the master on the 3rd floor and the kids rooms in the basement you screwed up from the start.

For 99% of folks there is no reason to be "clearing" your house.

I'm much better with a long gun than pistol, tho I'm getting better.

Something else going for long gun that only take magazines specifically for them is that here in Hawaii there's no capacity cap.
Unfortunately I can't think of any pccs that use specific mags.

One of the wonderful things about living in the sticks
I hear you and I agree. After we moved from the crime ridden city to a quiet acreage at the end of a private road, even our dogs had to get adjusted to a quieter "country" life. instead of sound of mag dumps, we hear chickens clucking. Now they are bored acting as herding dogs for chickens and barking away deers on neighbor's orchards (which they appreciate). And to everyone's delight, one of our dogs is a gopher hunter (Kill number 20+ and counting).

Some folks have absolutely no idea what kind of noise is going to erupt with the chosen firearm. Maybe all of you sleep with muffs on but I doubt it.
I can say even a pistol fired in a confined space of a room will make you deaf and if not prepared, could make you disoriented and distracted for a while.

We had defensive use of hearing protection on a recent thread - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...tection-in-home-defense.850047/#post-11108544

good discussion on this subject, lots of opinions.

FYI, Global Ordnance (in Florida) is the one dealing with everything Stribog related. they have been working incredibly fast in setting everything in motion and have some excellent deals going on. they will have everything for the Stribog and are bringing more options.

it used to be that the CZ Scorpion was the value king of the PCC world but that role has now been taken by the GP Stribog. you may disagree but that's because you just don't realize it yet. right now the Stribog can be had for $699 and includes 3 standard 30 round mags in a nice case. that undercuts the CZ by a little but includes the mags plus you don't have the need to change the grip nor the safety selector. the upper is also made of metal even though it weighs the same as the CZ, it's barrel is a little longer (8") even though overall it's a little shorter (more efficient design), the Stribog mags haven't given any problems (CZ mags are now generational because of issues, even the aftermarket, metal feed lip versions have given problems to some). mags are inexpensive for the Stribog, just like the Scorpion. the Stribog has proven reliable just like the Scorpion.

it took a while for the CZ to become popular and for all kinds of parts to be available eventually. the Stribog is on the same path but it seems a little quicker to get there. if you like B&T with it's metal pistols but can't or don't want to afford one, the GP Stribog is really a great choice. I think i'm sounding like an ad now but I really do like the Stribog better then the Scorpion.

BTW, the Stribog was one of the finalists for the US Army's new SMG but the B&T won the contract(for a heck of a lot more money).

I keep a shotgun in the closet, but if things were going sideways from a societal standpoint where I live, then I would much rather go with my AR. That said, I'm a handgun guy. I keep a SIG p320 in 9mm by the bed. I keep it loaded with a 21 round magazine, and short of going to the range, that's where it lives.

I'm not going to clear my house. If there is a suspicious sound that could not be related to the cats, we're staying upstairs and calling the police. All the bedrooms are upstairs. All the stuff worth taking is downstairs. My stairs are so creaky that my 75lb daughter going up them is about as loud as her 205lb father. They are narrow, steep, and uninviting for the most part as once you get past the third step you are completely enclosed the rest of the way up. With the light turn off upstairs and the night light on at the bottom of the steps, it is pitch black looking up there.

My plan of action is to have my wife call the cops with the phone she keeps by her side of the bed while I shuffle our daughter into our room with her. It's a long room with a sturdy door and has a inadvertent design flaw that actually makes it tougher to break through. The master closet door, when swung fully open, catches on the bedroom doorknob if it opens more than 6" effectively stopping it dead in its tracks. So my wife and daughter are behind a locked door with a solid door stop should the door be kicked in, in a room big enough to hide out of sight. They have a phone and Hail Mary drop of just 8' off the roof of the front porch.

I'm good with the SIG monitoring the top of the stairs. A 21 round magazine with a spare 17 round mag feels like a decent amount. I have the high ground and a complete line of sight from my position to the front door. They can steal the TV and xbox and walk out the backdoor. I don't care. I'm insured. But they aren't stepping a foot upstairs without a fight. The risk of multiple night time assailants in this area is low. We have a lot more daytime break ins with crooks posing as contractors and just walking in the place.

I would probably feel BETTER with the AR over the 9mm, but my situational tactical positioning i feel is pretty strong and the SIG is much handier to keep secure at arms reach over the AR.

Just curious, but how common are Stribog mags? Does it use the same mag as something else (I.e. Colt 9mm AR)?

I’ve never seen the Stribog ‘pistol’ or the mags in any stores around here (DFW). Just on here and ar15dotcom. On the other hand I see CZ Scorpion mags in roughly half of the gunstores that I visit.

Then again CZ Scorpion mags aren’t as common as the Glock higher cap mags (24 and 33rd 9mm mags). CZ should have used those mags or some other popular design already in existence.

However CZ Scorpion mags are definitely more common than the Stribog.

Oh, and the whole "clearing " your house thing really needs to stop

What if I come home and the door is kicked in with my wife and daughters inside? Call the police and wait 45 minutes and hope nothing is happening or go in? Good chance there will be regret either way, but do you still say "needs to stop"? What if your outside on the property and hear a shot from inside? Go in or wait for more shots before going? I'm not a prepper, nor paranoid. I jog unarmed nearly every day. At least half the trucks and tractors in my county have never had the key removed. But I know of more than one situation where the victims would have been at least as well off, if someone had went house clearing. I know of one case nearly 30 years ago I guess where an untrained 18 year old neighbor grabbed a 22 and went home clearing after his sister was shot. He saved his other 2 sisters and they went on to be happy. His life went downhill though. Not all break ins happen when everyone is in bed where they are supposed to be and accounted for. Many aren't technically "breakins" as there was no breaking in.

They have a phone and Hail Mary drop of just 8' off the roof of the front porch.

What if that 8 ft jump off the roof is how the intruder is getting in? The noise comes from their bedroom rather than the front door? Of all the home break ins I've seen investigated locally, only two actually came in through a door. Most went in though a second floor window. And most were during the day when the families were supposed to be at work.

I'm not arguing or saying that everyone should be clearing their house. And clearing by yourself is a crappy and likely futile situation that is likely to get you shot, But every situation is different. Last resorts do happen. In one case I'm familiar with the homeowner went outside to investigate a noise and was shot in the back of the head by a guy hiding behind the door, he was left for dead but survived. Should have stayed inside and not been clearing, but he thought it was a varmint. Hindsight is 20/20. I dont plan on ever clearing my house, I've got shot by paintballs in a simulation trying it under controlled conditions more than once, I know the odds suck. But I wont say to not consider it either.

it's just a matter of timing and popularity. right now Stribog mags are about as common as Scorpion mags ounce were. since the Scorpion became popular obviously the mags are now in many places but that wasn't always the case. now there's a few guns that use Scorpion mags, like the PSA AKV. you can get Stribog mags directly from Global Ordnance. they're inexpensive and they've promised to keep them so in order to compete with CZ. people who have bought a Stribog are obviously going to be buying lots of mags so it's at least possible you go to their website and they're out of stock and then 2 days latter, bamm, they're back in stock. there's quite literally huge shipments coming in everyday full of Stribog stuff and they are "flying off the shelves". they are moving very quickly.

it's actually amazing to have followed the thread, right from the start, over on ar15.com and how the people, actual shooters, have contributed directly to the development of the Stribog and making it a better gun, better option with better value then anything else out there similar to it.

if your interested in learning more about the Stribog I suggest you read that entire thread and marvel at what this Slovakian god is all about. the thread is called Slovak SBRs anybody?

it's just a matter of time before more people know and will want one. if you think that's not true just remember what they said about the Scorpion at first.

the development of the Stribog will be even faster then the Scorpion, the evidence is right there if your willing to look.

So did dornaus & Dixon. And Grendel. Gun owners with any memory are weary of these things.

A gun upstart would be wise to study the failed companies as much or more than the successes

I should also mention that very soon there's going to be a roller delayed (similar to HK but a bit different) version coming out.....and affordable. it's simply waiting for approval before it can come in, it's already a done deal. THAT will be the "nail on the coffin".

i'm sure that at least some of you here know what a version like that means in the market.

the accessories are already looking to be massive.

Oh the 8' jump off the roof is last ditch, a Hail Mary. House is breached. Bedroom door is getting splintered in. I'm shot dead in the hallway. Cops are 10 minutes out with only 2 minutes worth of cover left. I would never expect us to escape the house that way. I think we could barricade and wait it out before we would jump to safety. I'm just saying that hitting the grass at 8' and booking it to the neighbors is a more viable plan Z than making the leap at 20' onto concrete.

You probably need to mention to your ties to one of the companies. You sound like a infomercial

Which part did it for you.... I was pretty convinced by
"marvel at what this Slovakian god is all about. "

Even Gaston didn't go that far. But I'm not really shopping for another carbine anyway.

;) That was kinda funny though.

I already have a CZ Scorpion brace pistol thingy with a Streamlight TLR-1 HL and a pile of mags and I’m still somewhat interested in the Stribog. I’ll just wait a bit to see how available the guns, mags and parts are before I leap in. Don’t want to get stuck with an uncommon gun where parts are difficult to get (I already have one of those with the Daewoo DR-200).

I’d prefer to read why it’s a decent ‘pistol’ and what tests they’ve done and features it has as opposed to having to reach for obscure Slavic gods. However it was entertaining.

Hey how do you like that tail hook? Is it pretty sturdy? That's the setup I've been debating as the tailhook looks like if by some accident you tripped and it struck your shoulder, it wouldn't break.;)

The Mod 2 tail hook looks even more sturdy, but I don't want the straight buffer tube. I like the drop of the CZ folding extension.

I like it. Lock up is great with no wobble whatsoever. After years of having some AK folders that wobbled and where there’s a real cheek weld when cheeking or shouldering the thing that’s much appreciated. Little serrated button on the left side is easy to get to and easy to depress, but not so easy that it could be done so accidentally.

I’ve had mine since the first month they came out with them. Almost two years ago. There weren’t any YouTube reviews on them at the time and I couldn’t find any written reviews on them except one on ar15dotcom, so I was a bit leery about getting one. No issues though.

It goes from collapsed to shouldered in the blink of an eye. The Tailhook brace part where you use it cyborg-style is actually pretty sturdy as well. Lock up on that is good.

Only part I’m kinda ‘Meh’ about is the distance/length of pull on it. You have to set the space with a pin, punch and hammer. Least on this one. I haven’t kept up with the newer models, that may have changed on the subsequent models. Adjusting the length of the Tailhook from person to person is a bit of a hassle. Other than that one criticism I’m really happy with it.

If at all possible I’ll be using Tailhooks or SB Tactical SB3A braces.

If I'm grabbing anything other than my handgun it's my AR pistol in 300 BO. If 30 rounds of a 30 cal doesn't neutralize the threat then a daisy for me.

Cool, thanks man. Even though I'm comfortable with a pistol, I am seriously debating this setup with a suppressor for HD and for fun. It seems 147 gr ammo and this small setup would be prudent. I have animals and an unsuppressed gun in an enclosed environment could severely damage their, and my hearing.

They’re ridiculously fun. Mags while proprietary, are inexpensive and fairly available.

https://gunmagwarehouse.com/cz-scorpion-9mm-30-round-magazine.html

I see them at a little more than half of the gunstores I go to, but tend to order them online. They usually have the best deals.

9mm ammo is cheap. It’s kind of like a centerfire plinker and my Ruger 10/22’s go along on the same trip. Except I’d actually use this thing for defense indoors if push came to shove.

that's funny. no ties to anyone but I do admit i'm enthusiastic. i'm just saying the Stribog is a better gun then the Scorpion, for me anyway. it's not all plastic, no need to change the grip or safety, cost the same or a little less, comes with 3 mags, plenty of after-market parts already and more on the way. you can get several different adapters, several different braces, go sbr and stamp and get a stock, 10, 20, 30 round mags for little money, M-lok for endless accessories, pic rail,...basically everything the Scorpion has but in what I consider a better design. there's more coming but with ATF it takes time. there's a really short and the long barreled version plus a different roller delayed version coming. there's also an aluminum lower coming and one that takes Glock mags for those interested in that( not me).

Grand Power isn't going away, they're already very popular in Europe for years now in the competition scene with their pistols. Americans are already enthusiastic about Rex pistols even though Grand Power has been around here longer.

choice is good.

A home invasion is exceedingly unlikely where I live. That said, my go to would be a 336 in 30-30 that I keep in our bedroom - 6 in the tube and 10 on the stock should be sufficient as long as my four legged alarm system wakes me up. The way our house and neighborhood is laid out a rifle is a good fit, and I'm frankly a lot better with a rifle than I am with a handgun.

the versions out now are the non-reciprocating. also, the pins loosen up a bit and you can push them by hand. on the third video i disagree on the reasons for the numbers but I do agree on how well made they are.
