10mm recomendations

I have always been intrigued by the 10mm. I have a few 40S&W handguns, a few 45ACP but no 10mm yet. Any suggestions/recommendations? Will not carry it, will not be my go-to for HD. Just want to enjoy shooting it and reloading a new(to me) cartridge. Mag capacity not a huge concern.
I have looked at:
1911s:
Colt Delta Elite
Ruger SR1911
Sig TacOps
and (not 1911)
Glock 20 Gen4
Glock 20 SF Gen3
Sig P220 Legion

The Glocks are the cheapest, the Legion the most $$, the 1911s much of a similar price.
I have heard (read) somewhere that current model Colts are not like they were a few years ago - true? I do not own a Colt, would like to but not if there are better options out there.
I have a Sig 1911 in 45ACP - beautiful and works well. I have a Glock in 45ACP (21 SF) works well too. I have had a good experience with Sig and Glock. My Ruger experience is limited to their revolvers (357mag to 454 Casull) - love them - no semi-auto Ruger experience though.

Add: I have a Sig 226 in 40S&W and Sig 227 in 45ACP too - so I am familiar with Sig non-1911 stuff.
Anyone have a suggestion/recommendation, if so, why? Other models I have not listed worth considering?

For a 10mm range toy I would go with a 1911. If you have big hands I would consider a double stack 1911 (i.e. 2011) in 10mm. The extra grip width of the 2011 will spread the 10mm recoil over a bigger portion of your palm making it feel like it shoots softer than a 1911.

If you want a unique very well built 10mm to blast away with I would get a S&W 1006.

For a working gun I would get a Springfield XDm in 10mm... because Glocks don't agree with me. If you are a Glock fan I would go for the Glock 20 for a working gun.

If you just want a 10mm that looks good with an 80's leisure suit... definitely get a Bren Ten.

Though I have shot the G20, I'm not a Glock guy, so there's that...so I went with the SR1911-10, as my Dad's SR1911s in 45ACP were great shooters in my hands. No regerts! Its a really great, accurate and fun handgun. I DYI a trigger job and cleaned up the grittiness. Reloading results are fantastic especially with XTPs and cast PC, and it also likes the SIG ball ammo. Reasonable price, too.

The SIG P220 is an excellent firearm, but a bit pricey for me.

Does it need to be a semiautomatic? For your consideration: Ruger has three 10mm revolvers and S&W just started making the 610 again! These will shoot 40S&S rounds as well.
 
I wouldn't bother with the G20's, look at the MOS G40. Longer barrel ups the velocity significantly with hot 10mm.

For 1911, Rock Island makes a doublestack in 10mm, the "Rock Ultra FS HC". Holds 16+1, street price around $600 if you buy online.
 
Your list does not include the Tanfoglio/EAA Witness. Good ergonomics and cheaper than the Glock.....Be advised that if you wish to recover your brass shortening the ejector on the Witness is a needful thing. (It is quite easy to do) FWIW I prefer the Glock 20 for carry. I have no doubt that the Sig would be delightful at the range.....but then almost ever firearm has provided delight at the range.
 
I just got a G29 G4 and was surprised how nice it shot, albeit wasn’t shooting screaming hot loads like Buffalo Bore. You hear people talk about massive recoil with 10mm, but I thought was quite manageable. I wanted to be able to carry. All the ones on your list will be nice range guns, just depends what platform you like best. I’d probably lean towards the Rock Ultra.

I have 2 of these ( a current model and a '87 blued model). They are good shooters.

Ruger SR1911
I bought one of these when they first came out. Excellent shooter!! Fully supported barrel for shooting real 10mm.

Glock 20 Gen4
Glock 20 SF Gen3
My G20 is a gen3. It is a good shooter. The recoil is soft and it is the only 10mm my wife will ask to shoot.

Sig P220 Legion
I have 2 P220 10mm pistols (P220 elite two tone and a blued elite SAO). These are the best shooters out of the bunch, also the heaviest!!
The weight keeps the recoil down a bit. The chambers are fully supported for the hot 10mm.

Out of your list I would pick the Ruger SR1911 or the P220.

There are some others that you might want to consider,
The Springfield XDm, I have the 4.5" model. It shoots a lot like the G20 it just fits my hand better. (personal fit)
The EAA Witness It is a good shooter just very heavy. Metal frame & 15rds of 10mm, It is a handful!!
The S&W 1076 is a good shooter. These older 10 series Smiths can be hard to find and harder to get mags and replacement springs.
If it is to be a range toy,
The G40, It has the longer slide and barrel and the MOS cut. Good shooter and fun range toy!!
I also have 4 10mm revolvers ( 610 no dash, 2 GP100s, and a SRH) All of these are great shooters, if a wheel gun floats your boat.

As you can see I am a huge 10mm fan. Hope this helps, Good Luck
 
I went with a Glock 29 for woods carry and trail running, but for your purposes I’d go with something in a 1911 flavor. While I was researching my purchase, the two I was most interested in were the Delta Elite and a Springfield that came with a red dot from the factory.

I'd say current Colts are closer to the best era of Colts than current SIG's are to the best era of SIG's. I'm not saying SIG's are bad, just that Colts aren't either.

If you're comfortable with a G21, you'll be equally comfortable with a G20 as they're basically the same gun.
 
I have both a Colt Delta Elite and a Springfield Operator TRP in 10mm. With 1911s and steel frame, recoil is very controllable and both are accurate and reliable.
 
I like the look of the stainless Kimber longslide.

The Ruger is gonna be tough to beat though for the price. Good sights, fully supported barrel and stainless. Me like.

The Rock Island 1911's and the Tangfolios are kinda in the same boat for me. They'll probably run, but might need a little lovin' to get working right. Expect to do that yourself.

I'm kinda interested in the new XD's actually. I prefer them over Glocks in general. If I can find a 6" after market barrel I might be in for one.
 
For what I use it for my G29 is the best option for me, followed by my G20. I have 1911's, all in 45, but they aren't any more accurate than the G29. I don't have any problem keeping all of my shots inside the kill zone out to 50 yard with either. Recoil, even with the hottest DT and BB loads in the 10mm Glock is more comfortable than light 45 loads from the steel frame 1911. The Glock grip angle and wide backstrap really soften recoil. A 10mm 1911 would give me a bigger, heavier, more expensive gun with more recoil and reduced capacity with no good way to mount a light. But they are prettier.

I agree. Really am surprised that my newly acquired G29 is so nice to shoot. So far sent downrange 180gr fmj Sellier & Bellot, 180gr fmj Armscor and 180gr Sig V-crown jhp. Also have Pearce grip on 10rd mag and +2 Pearce grip on other mags making for a solid 5 digit grip. Gun is very controllable. It disappears in waistband too albeit I am 5’8 and 210. No problem with summer edc.

I'll be the third to back up the part about recoil. My G29 was much, much milder than what I'd expected based on the reading I'd done. Even full-house Underwood 200gr hard cast is not the mythological bucking bronco I expected it to be.

You didn't say it had to be a auto-loader even though that is all your initial list contained. And I see you make mention of other Ruger revolvers you have also.

You nor anyone else has mentioned the reintroduced (Mar 2019??) S&W 610 revolver that you could shoot 40S&W and 10mm though for some versatility?? You mentioned this wasn't for SD/HD work. Just a suggestion in case you were not aware.

I personally have a 10mm 1911 built on a Delta Elite slide fitted to a Les Baer frame. Lots of horsepower in that gun. ;) Loose a lot of weight chasing down brass into the next county also......

Tanfoglio (EAA is the importer) Witness Elite series. Double-stack magazine capacity and recoil-spreading backstrap (advantages over the 1911 and P220) plus a better trigger and heavier frame than the polymers.

The non-Elite series Witnesses are viable as well, but the Elite series guns are nicer and get you some options.
