Politicians Are Calling For A Ban On Silencers. Here’s What You Need To Know

On that bump stock thing.....

one pull of trigger= one shot.

Nope.

The way I saw em, the finger is fixed and the gun moves into it.
There is no pull of the trigger, the gun IMHO pushes itself into the finger.

Bet others saw it the same.

If they used the term "pull" of trigger instead of "cycle" of trigger........

I know you are just pointing out their “logic” but...

Are we going to outlaw belt loops as well?

Please stop closing discussions on this topic on THR. Why are a few posting transgressions worth shutting down discussion of an important topic early in it's development when getting people interested, vocal and informed might actually make a difference? Delete off topic posts if you want, but continually shutting down discussion does the whole community a disservice.
It is when we are deleting more off topic post than there are relevant posts that these get locked. This thread is an example of still being open even though posts have been removed. As we've said all along, if it stays on topic then it stays open.

And please feel free to contact any member of staff if you disagree with an action.

So let’s outlaw mufflers on our cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Motorcycles!! We must ban these immediately.
I just checked and they have no airbags or crumple zones, seat belts, or any other crash protection for the riders.
They lack even basics like heaters, window defrosters, and windshield wipers. Many even have no windshields!!
And, worse still, they don't even have 4 wheels!! o_O I kid you not.
They fall over if you stop and don't prop them up.
Oh, the humanity....:(

We know that criminals, by definition, don’t follow the law. That is why new gun laws don’t work. And it’s why we here know that new gun laws don’t affect anyone except law abiding citizens. A ban or new law changes nothing for those that are intent on killing people. As soon as they decide to commit that violent act, they’ve already chosen to ignore the most important laws of our country. And I will restate Walkalong’s point. There is no such thing as gun violence.

They aint gonna ban that which helps in making organ donors.
Heck, that's why they (IMHO) don't have helmet laws (in states that mandate seat belt usage for cars/trucks).

I still think its mostly talk, and that if any action will be attempted, it's for show and not effect.
Since suppressors already highly regulated, I don't see much going on.

Noticed that the shooter had a clean record (at least with his employer) up to recent.
Now that doesn't mean he had a clean record in the past, as we know stuff doesn't get reported, or if it does, can be erased.
Wonder if he was in a union and how much of that might have happened.

Employer has not discussed any recent behavior.
My guess is that if the details come out, and he did own a suppressor legally (still not been shown a pic of the item he supposedly used)................then this at best would fall under red flag stuff.

Have seen it at work, recent.............one person got 3 days off for making threats (again).
But management and union seem to give some folks way more room to act up than others.

Wonder if the playing of the race card allowed him to keep his access badge.

Let's not go off on race. Next, folks say that they don't care about bump stocks or suppressors - they don't see the bigger picture. Or, they are full of cognitive dissonance from Trump Worship Syndrome. First, the failure of the HPA shows the impotency of the supposed progun forces or their lack of interest in expanding the RKBA against current legal barriers. They are content to say: We will defend the RKBA - SEND A CHECK!

Next, the erratic nature of Donald, Mr. Entertainment - could easily lead him to try to ban higher capacity mags or capable guns across the entire country. His actions set a precedent (all ready mentioned) for a clearly and intelligent antigun president to due the same through executive action.

It will be ironic if we have to hope that Kavanaugh and Gorsuch are our saviors against the guy who chose them. Would they vote against him? Would Roberts who loves executive power?

I'm not a staff member so I cannot comment on Trump or SCOTUS.

I will take up the narrative. When an individual or a group of individuals attain certain position of power and stature in government or society having regular people armed no longer serves their best interest. They can easily count on masses that are more afraid of certain armed groups than officials of state and federal governments. When was the last time that patriotic conservative billionaire(s) paid $16/hour to members of masses to protest degradation of conservative values or gun control measures?

I feel the general public is ignorant about the facts of silencers / suppressors and what they actually do.
I have shot a number of different full auto suppressed guns and they are by no means silent. Brad nailers
and air nail guns do not sound like silenced or suppressed guns to me.

Liberals seem to be walking contradictions. On the one hand they claim that everyone is responsible for their own decisions and actions (women's "reproductive rights" and the like), then on the other hand they claim that people are NOT responsible for their own decisions and actions (gun control, "Affordable" Health Care Act, etc). Of course, the reality is that they are in favor of individual freedom to do what they (Liberals) agree with (speech, etc); all other freedoms can be restricted (or eliminated). Hypocrites. And they work very hard to disallow fact-based dialog that might demonstrate their ignorance and prove the folly of their proposals, because that might take away the momentum of emotional outrage which they capitalize on solely for political gain and to feed their narcissism.

Maybe we should organize a march with the rallying cry, "My gun! My choice!" for the cause of the Innocents' Right to Choose Self Defense.

Those that believe such are the visible part of the problem; and you're right that have a sort of 'freedom schizophrenia' of hypocritical proportions. "My gun! My Choice!" isn't even a valid comparison, because the gun is not a living being. Herein lies the crux of evil within the 'liberal agenda'. It goes against the very basic instincts of humanity; protection of the social group, and of those unable to defend themselves, as well as maternal (and paternal) instinct.
Then there are those that spur such emotions on, (for only using emotion can they succeed; rational thought immediately exposes their treachery) those that work behind the scenes (Soros, et. al.) These are the true enemy of humanity. If there is any good news in this, it is that though they all work toward a common goal, tyranny, though disguised as many different wished out comes (anarchy, despotism, rosy shades of socialism, and yes, even human extinction), they are divided. This is the only reason they have failed thusfar. The Second Amendment, and more importantly, the millions of gun owners in the US, gives them pause, but we are a speed bump on their road towards their diffuse goals. God help humanity should they decide on a unanimous course of action. It would herald in a new Dark Ages, the likes of which would make the 6th through the 15th centuries seem a lark.

They only get their knowledge from tv shows where the ruthless mafia hit man screws a silencer on a .38 special Colt Snubbie revolver and when he shoots his victim it goes "pfffft" and the victim falls dead for reasons only discovered at the autopsy.

Lnce again, we have an intersection of those who value only the quality of their intentions, and care not a whit for the quantity of the consequences with those of use who deal with concrete consequences and measure those against intentions.

We are a hard-headed, individualistic lot; we generally operate or a principal of reasoned debate founded in logic. We see no reason to trumpet our virtue, largely because our ethos and mores are not fluid. So, our debates fal upon deaf ears. Ears that are, sadly, not mute, but histrionic at high (dangerously high) volume.

Which means the other side does not care that there are no facts to argue; or that facts are even necessary in the face of virtue signalling. Which is why most of "our" debates scurry off down rabbit holes on politics, personalities, and propoganda (perceived or real). Which are the sorts of things to give moderators fits.

We have almost no facts about the recent shooting. We have only reporting by an unreliable press working under under-identified bias(es). Note that this does not deter the enemies of liberty and freedom from crowing on endlessly on topics of which they know less than Jon Snow.

The special session of the legislature called by Gov. Northam will consider (and most probably reject) his plan to outlaw suppressors in Virginia. What this is all about, however, is setting up the issue for this November's legislative elections. It may be just enough to tip both Houses over into Democratic control, since "silencers" are not popular among the general population. Bottom line: the pro-gun side has not done a good job convincing people that suppressors are necessary or desirable. Heck, most gun owners themselves are not convinced of that.

Not a good graphic, needs to be juxtaposed with

Average decibels (dB)

Leaves rustling, soft music, whisper = 30

Average home noise = 40

Normal conversation, background music = 60

Office noise, inside car at 60 mph = 70

Vacuum cleaner, average radio = 75

Heavy traffic, window air conditioner, noisy restaurant, power lawn mower = 80–89 (sounds above 85 dB are harmful)

Subway, shouted conversation = 90–95

Boom box, ATV, motorcycle = 96–100

School dance = 101–105

Chainsaw, leaf blower, snowmobile = 106–115 (.22 LR suppressed)

Sports crowd, rock concert, loud symphony = 120–129 (9mm suppressed)

Stock car races = 130 (.308 or .223 Suppressed)

Siren at 100 feet = 140
