My brother's max. price is pretty firm for a complete first AR, and the main purpose is to be a range gun, possibly 100-200 yards. Open aperture sights are the main goal, along with any type of rail for future options (but secondary).
His vision is pretty good for age 61.
I'm trying to sell him on the idea that the improved sight distance of a 20" barrel vs. a 16" barrel might be worth some extra cost, but we don't know which baseline products are used for a quality/cost comparison with so many factors and opinions. No idea how to evaluate the vast info.
*Possibly a substitute front post sight is available for 16" barrels which is both >Thinner than stock post sights<, but short enough to be protected by the typical sight guards?
I'm an "imported AK guy" (but I Don't drink raw coffee grounds with vodka...) and can't advise.
