Keep in mind this is the "Washington Post" reporting and they will use every trick to put the NRA in a bad light.

Read their actual article here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...fd89bd36d4e_story.html?utm_term=.d145d37aeaf3

And their copy of the NRA 2018 Annual Financial Report here:
www.washingtonpost.com/context/nra-2018-annual-financial-report/05b36d8c-cd64-4011-a685-e0a26eba9be6/?utm_term=.4bd19344a30a

What I would like is for an UNbiased expert to report on what the financial report is really saying.

The NRA spending $10,000 on rent for an “intern” is my favorite expenditure. The NRA has become a corrupt organization that needs its leadership completely gutted and to get back to its core mission: fighting the infringement of the right to keep and bear arms.

In it's 2017 financial report the NRA reported a funny balance of over 31 million dollars.

"The NRA had negative $31.8 million on hand at the end of 2017, according to the form all nonprofits must file with the IRS. The group, which spent an average of $278.3 million a year, had a negative balance at the end of six of the previous 10 years.

In the 2017 financial statements, I’m seeing signs that the problem could be
more serious."

Journalism is nothing like what it once was. "Beat" writers do not hunch over typewriters in open plan offices uder the watchful eye of editors and news directors. In our modern times they work from home, or are the scruffian in the corner of the local coffee joint where they are busy cut-n-pasting Vox and Buzzfeed articles into the 20 or 30 articles they will punt out there trying to see what copy editor will buy them up to fill empty column-inches. "Fact checking" such as it is, is usually skimming a wiki article.

The NRA has a serious problem when a sub contractor, that is the PR Firm that gets $40 million a year, is performing personnel services for Wayne LaPierre Those who know about contracting, and the cost of contracting know, that Wayne's $250,000 worth of suits, furnished by the PR firm, cost the NRA multiple times that amount, because of the cost of funding a subcontractor. And if these firms are buying clothing for NRA executives, you know that is just a concrete and easy to understand example of the mismanagement of members money. Undoubtedly there are contractor people doing things for the brass, such as laundry, shopping, groceries, pet care, lawn care, taxi services, travel services, etc, all funded by NRA members.

Ever heard the saying that the cemetery is filled with indispensable individuals? If the NRA is Wayne LaPierre then what is the purpose of the NRA ? If the President of the NRA can't fire Wayne, and tried, then there is a real problem at the very top of the NRA.

Just another reason why I'm no longer a member. I followed George H.W. Bush out back in the 90s and stayed away until the Parkland, FL shooting. Bought a 1 yr membership and didn't renew it when they signed off on the bump stock ban. I'm a member of 2AF and GOA.

As far as NRA being the biggest etc etc etc. If enough members leave NRA and join 2AF, 2AF will be the biggest etc etc etc. Power abhors a vacuum. If NRA goes down, another will rise to take its place. Others are already waiting in the wings.

If they cut the crap, the money would again roll in. Nobody wants them on a crusade for causes outside of gun rights. Causes that you or I may or may not like, but are outside the scope of their charter. And cut the apparent misuse or mis-guidance (not a word) of member funds and/or donations.

I am surely not NRA negative, but they sure do need to shore up their internal finances. People are shy about giving when they think there might be a chance for it to be misused.

It's the crass antics of the top brass that makes it so distasteful to many folks on the fence of gun rights. Wayne and Co make it very easy to vilify the NRA and thus gun owners by proxy.

I think many folks who want to talk about gun issues like enforcing mental health mandates and shoring up background checks that don't allow firearms in the hands of people no reasonable person would trust to have a gun (be they a danger to themselves or others) are totally turned off by these clowns. Organizations are led from the top down. If you see corruption at the top then people simply assume the organization as a whole is putrid. Why listen to ANYTHING coming out of the mouthpiece of the NRA is what they will ask.

Instead of instilling educational programs on gun safety, the merits of recreational use of firearms, and presenting accurate facts about self defense, all of this baloney is alienating people who may side on the 2A side of things to just collectively shurg and not really give the issue much thought. "The NRA is run by opulent crooks, so this nice loud politician "thinking about the children" must be right...maybe the 2A really is about a regulated militia? I guess I don't really see why anyone would need an AR15. Maybe 15 rounds in a magzine is overkill? I guess no one really needs anything more than a 4 shot hunting rifle. Come to think of it, doesn anyone really need to hunt?" Etc.

I guess the high living top brass are going to have to cut down on their private jets and ridiculous meal and recreation expenses. Or not.
Maybe Wayne can get some money back for the organization by putting some of his $275K worth of suits up in a menswear consignment shop ...
