I like that a lot, and you could always put some type of creative paint job on that stock if you can't find a normal wood one for it. Perhaps an OEM wood stock from Marlin ? Boyd's has some offerings for the Marlin XT series, one of which specified "magazine fed" and "bull barrel". If you shoot it this weekend can we get an initial range report ? I confess to never owning a rifle in 22 mag but it's one of those "always wanted one" things.

Looks good. I wish I could find a use for mine. Seems like I go for the 22lr of 22 Hornet and they collect dust most often.

I think it’s because of bullet choices and limited to what if offered as far as ammunition.

Nice! That action looks a lot like the Marlin 17VS action I have. Like exactly. Though dimensions might be different. Mine is in a laminated wood stock.

Mine is "blinding" to squirrels out to 50 yards, and still great after 50.

If you could post a link thatd be great. Looking at Boyd's website the only thing I can find for the XT22 Mag is for tube fed models.

Only thing I've been able to find is a site called Midwest Gunworks. Most of what they carry are OEM stocks although they do seem to carry a couple that should work. They dont seem all that "pretty" and they dont specify hardwood, so I'm still looking. I dont particularly like laminate but it's not totally off the table if I found one that struck my fancy looks wise.

I have an older stainless Marlin 22 mag SSV that I picked up over 20 years ago. Its one of the guns I have the least use for, but it shoots too good to get rid of!

LGS has a Browning T-bolt with a maple stock that is gorgeous. Would sell it at about cost

I had a .22 mag and just never used it. Not as accurate as a regular.22 and too expensive for target shooting, and if I’m gonna whack a critter I’d use my .204 or .222

I got a Ruger American and a Henry in.22 WMR and really like them.

Like all rimfires, I tried a large variety of ammo to find what they like. It is pricier than LR ammo for sure, but it’s not crazy like a few years ago.

Your rifle looks like a shooter, let us know how it does .

Stay safe.

I bought a CZ 455 with a .22 WMR barrel, but didn't care for the round and bought a .17 HMR fluted barrel that I LOVE. I shoot that more than most of my .22 LRs these days. It's fantastically accurate and very effective on the varmints around here.

If anyone would like my .22 WMR barrel, I'd consider selling it for a very reasonable amount. (shown) IMG_2793.JPG

Hi, on Boyd's web site I clicked on the XT22Mag and came up with the tube fed also. Then I tried XT SERIES and found listings for an XT series , magazine feed, bull barrel but no mention of chambering. Is yours an XT-22MVSR ? Saw that one on Marlin's web site..... Looks like yours.

Yes mine is the MVSR. Thanks for the info, I'll check that out.

Decided to go old school sighting in, no bore sighting, no laser, just throw up a big piece of paper and go for it.

Three shots and I was in the neighborhood. After a little fine tuning she's shooting groups the size of a quarter at 50yds. I'm happy with that for now. Ammo was CCI Vmax 30gr.

That's great.
What are you planning to use this rifle for?
I like mine for small game up to light varmint.

Mostly the same as you. However my buddy a few miles up the road, with more acreage than me, has gotten into shooting crows with his .17hmr and I just cant compete with him with my LRs, so I'm hoping this might make things more interesting.

But, some shots we take can push 100yds so I'm anxious to get down to his range and see what the WMR will do at that distance.

I just recently purchased that exact same rifle. I haven’t had the opportunity to shoot it yet however. I put a 4.5-14x AO Sightron on mine that I had laying around. If it shoots as well as my heavy barrel blued 17 HMR Marlin XT I’ll be a happy camper. The 17 HMR has a “hardwood” stock on it that is actually laminated but not like the Boyd’s stocks with the thin layers. This one is brown and black thick layers. I’ll see if I have a picture of it. I really like the looks of it.

Got tired of smacking golf balls at 50yds so switched to 9mm cases I found out in the yard. Only problem is they're hard to find after you hit them.

Tried some of the Hornady 30gr Vmax and it worked just as well as the CCI. Might stick with it as it's a few dollars cheaper per box than the CCI.

This is quickly becoming my favorite .22. Cant wait to see what it does at 100yds.

My sole 22 Magnum is possibly my favorite rimfire. I enjoy 22 LR also, but the 22 Magnum has significantly more punch and is just fun to shoot. I've also found the Hornady 30 grain V-Max to be my gun's favorite in terms of accuracy.

Got to shoot it at some longer distances today. At 100yds groups opened up to 1.5 - 2" but hitting golf balls was still pretty easy. I even hit a couple at 150yds.

With a more powerful scope I think the gun can do better. It's kind of hard seeing anything smaller than a golf ball at those distances with a 3-9.

The rifle is probably capable of better groups, but as I've found with my rifle, the .22 WMR ammo isn't as good as hoped. It's fine for disposing critters under 100 yards, but beyond that, it drops off and the inability of the ammo to shoot 1 MOA causes great rifles to not live up to their potential. The .17 HMR is a bit better at groups shot at 100 yards, but some brands/types do better than others.

I was so disappointed in the .22 WMR that I spent a lot of money for a heavy-barreled, fluted .17 HMR that grouped better and carried trajectory better, to and beyond 100 yards. It may not strike as hard on heavier critters, with some bullets, as the WMR, however.

I disagree but that's no offense to your opinion. I think the scope is the limiting factor for me. These Vmax rounds seem to be exceptionally accurate versus some of the lower speed HP rounds I've tried.

I actually shot as good as my buddy with his RPR .17 with a 4-12 scope, who was also shooting Vmax 17gr rounds.

In all honesty I wish I had brought my sled with me so I could take my inaccuracy out of the equation. I feel this gun is capable of 1moa at 100.

BTW I didnt have to make any adjustments from sighting in at 50 to shooting at 100 and 150. I think that speaks volumes as to how flat shooting the 22mag can be.

I sincerely hope your rifle can do much better than the barrel that came on my CZ455. I found that the rifle wanted to shoot MOA, but the ammo that I experimented with and the barrel may have been problematic.

Having been heavily involved with .22LR rimfire benchrest for several years, it was discouraging finding great lots and the match ammo cost was very high, but how it worked in your rifle was like finding the right woman to marry. Not only do you want to find the right ammo that grouped well, but flyers must also be few and far between...or hopefully, nonexistent.

The trajectory table I'm using for .17 HMR puts the bullet at +.53" at 50 yards, +.75" at 100 yds, 0.0" at 125 yds, and -1.45" at 150. That trajectory can result in many dead critters with little or no hold-off within that entire range. Bullet weight, shape, and MV will obviously change trajectory.

Both .22 WMR and .17 HMR are not match cartridges, and being rimfires, fit and quality of construction is of less concern than with match .22LR ammo, but what I've found is that .17 HMR ammo of various MFGs seems to be a bit more accurate...not as accurate as good centerfire ammo, though. I think that it could be better, but until customers demand better accuracy, we're probably stuck with what we have and paying outlandish sums of money to get custom match-quality rifles will not be a fruitful endeavor until ammo becomes more consistent.
