I became a AR owner back in 2016 as a political protest against HRH. Prior to that time I had no interest in the AR-15.

To protest the Democrats winning the House of Representatives last year I brought a stripped Anderson lower engraved with the motto “These Colors Never Run.” So as a result of Nike dropping the Betsy Ross shoes it was only natural for another political protest.

This time my protest is a Palmetto State Armory ISTAND-15 1776 lower engraved with the Betsy Ross flag.

I sure wish the Republicans and Democrats would learn to get along. All of this political protesting is getting expensive.

I prefer my AR lowers with as few markings as possible. The ultimate, of course, being an "80%" lower with no markings at all.

One thing that particularly rankles me is the marking "Multi" for caliber. If I'm going to build it in 5.56 mm, by golly I want it to say that, or say nothing. "Multi" gives the impression that the owner is indecisive.

I was looking for stripped lowers recently at a large gun show. There wasn't a single one that didn't say "Multi." Up to about a year or two ago, lowers with specific caliber markings could still be found.

Also particularly egregious is anything referring to zombies. We are not children playing fantasy games.

Yes, and I'd like an LED screen on there so when I change uppers from 5.56 to 300 blackout to 7.62x39, it's telling me what I have and how to feed it.
As inexpensive as stripped lowers are, it makes sense to have a dedicated lower for each caliber. Once you start switching calibers, that provides the excuse for completely new rifles. Now is the time -- they're not going to be getting any cheaper.

Well since I am sticking with 5.56 and 223 Wylde there isn’t a risk of me using the wrong cartridge. I have a Stag Arms lower that is stamped 5.56 so does that mean I cannot use .223? (I know I can but look how often the question comes up).

For my .223 Wylde I installed a dust cover that is marked “223 Wylde” just because it is. More of a quick visual mental reminder for what bullet weight / cartridge I want to shoot in it. At one time I was really set on going with the 300 but with my ability to do really dumb things once in a while I figure it will only be a matter of time before I try to shoot the 300 out of a 5.56 rifle. If I ever do come into a 300 I will paint the gun and some dedicated magazines to help me from having a case of CRS.

But getting back to my original complaint I am not sure how many political protests I can afford. :uhoh:

I prefer my lowers to NOT be inscribed with the incorrect chambering. I prefer Multi on my lower, and then have the chambering on the barrel, as well as the port cover on many of my rifles.

I have never thought about the caliber markings, but I like the dust cover markings, I've never looked for them but I will start.
Seems like that could be a marketing plan for companies that sell complete uppers.

Betsy Ross? Being new to AR's I can already tell you I'm not looking for a billboard that stamps my political view.

Also seen some that print "Property of the US Government" just for show. Barf.

MN Fats; Owning an AR (or virtually any gun) is a billboard for your political views, at least on the 2nd Amendment.
Fine. But my Wingmaster doesn't have Trumps face engraved on the side. A little extreme of an example, but come on now.

You want your AR with a Punisher skull, or your political view cut into the side, fine. I like a gun that's left alone, the markings the manufacturer meant for it (Aside from Ruger's and others "safety billboards"). Leave it blank. I'm just saying, I'll skip the politics branded into my firearm.

"Multi" is the equivalent of having no caliber marking at all. I like your idea of having the caliber designation on the port cover.
I was thinking of someone, like myself, who is intending to build a rifle in a specific caliber, and is not intending to switch back and forth between calibers.
with different calibers available, you can't safely mark the receiver Imagine the lower says "300 AAC", but it's barreled 5.56. Then it exploded. You list "multi" it makes people look somewhere else for the cal. Because an AR lower is a firearm, it has to have a caliber engraved on it. https://www.atf.gov/resource-center...n-guidebook-firearms-verificationpdf/download
The U.S. Code (the law) only requires the serial number to be engraved, and leaves the other details to the ATF. It's the Code of Federal Regulations (the regulations) that requires the caliber designation. But the ATF has negated that by ruling that "multi" can used instead of a specific caliber. It seems to me that we can lobby the ATF just to allow the caliber to be left blank, since that's the same as "multi." They're usually reasonable in things like this, and "multi" as a caliber designation is inherently unreasonable. It says nothing.

These folks have a t-shirt to go with your lower:

I get what you're saying. The only objection I have to getting one is the extra $$, and it's kind of preaching to the choir, anyone who sees you at the range with one will probably smile and say, "Yup."

Trump's face on an 870? Sacrilege!

The lowers are cheap, however the stocks, buffers, grips, trigger groups, and small parts that turn them into a functional lower are not.

I don’t really understand why a caliber marking is necessary. Contender and encores can be bought as a bare receiver and they don’t have a caliber stamp.

Well, it's in the CFR (the ATF regs). The guns that don't have a caliber designation, as well as the ones marked "multi," probably got a variance (a ruling) from the ATF. I don't see why the ATF can't make that across the board.

The law as it reads above says the caliber must be marked on the receiver barrel or slide, and does say that incomplete receivers must also be marked, however a incomplete receiver has no caliber and no other firearm receiver I have ever seen is so marked. For example you can buy 1911’s, glock’s, Sharp’s rifles, ak’s, and many many types of bolt actions as bare receivers, and not a single one as far as I’ve ever seen came caliber marked. So I don’t see why an AR15 or AR10 lower has to be.

Not a great photo, was in a hurry to get out the door, but it IS a PSA complete MOE+ lower. ;) Great company to deal with and the long list of interesting lowers is a trip, all started by one guy stating a I Hate PSA thread on a very large website. Best I can right now, but I agree - owning and using an AR15 pretty much stamps my political viewpoint red white blue.jpg
