They're classified as songbirds thus protected, therefor DEC cannot institute a season on their own. Sportsmen in NY have not organized enough to make it happen in the state legislature. Why is it illegal in NY?

Huh, I guess that does make sense. I never really pursued them because well, I think they are "pretty" (don't judge me!) lol. . I feel bad shooting them and only went on one hunt. After seeing the hundreds of them flying around the management areas for them I said holy cow and didn't feel as bad when we took out a couple daily limits. They're classified as songbirds thus protected, therefor DEC cannot institute a season on their own. Not soft......wise.Skeeters too brutal when squirrel opens.
Used to hunt dove or nuisance geese Sept 1. But my hunting bud moved away yrs ago.
Hunted doves w another bud.....but ever since the F&W areas went non toxic......ive not been happy. Have to let em get closer now and even then.,....not enough dead when they hit.
Love the shooting....not the killing. Sold my dove gun.
Getting soft in my old age
can't shoot the dove here but killed lots of pigeons. there great with precooked bacon rapped around the breast, some butter, olive oil salt pepper, makes for a nice snack.Dove breasts on wild rice w mushroom gravy and a woody ale.....not a bad dinner

You need a trap gun or sporting Clays gun! I dont feel guilty killing clay birds.....and no feathers to pluck.
Insert a bit of jalapeno to kick it up a notch...Bacon wrapped dove breasts make a lot better dinner, though.
I'm sure yours are clean, but I can't get past the image of pigeons as filthy flying rats in NYC out of my mind. lolcan't shoot the dove here but killed lots of pigeons. there great with precooked bacon rapped around the breast, some butter, olive oil salt pepper, makes for a nice snack.

I've shot a few, they arnt real common here. I thought they were good.Eurasian Collared Doves that have become the predominant species of doves around these parts? I shoot them every chance I get, but I’ve never tried eating one.
One benefit of living in Arkansas. You can get a lifetime license at 65.thanks for the license reminder, mine expired last month, and I need it to even go shooting.
