I just bought a Taurus TCP 380 and have became interested in the round. I am considering a bigger sized 380. I looked at a Glock 42 and liked it a lot. Then I ran across the Ruger LC380 but know nothing about them. I found a NIB locally for $250 and that sounds like a deal to me.

So what experience do you all have with this gun? If you know of something better in this size and price range what would it be?

I've had a LC380 for several years. I bought it because I like the LC9 and thought the 380 would compliment it. While the LC380 shoots well, if the magazine has a soft spring, or if I relax my grip a bit, the next bullet to be chambered has a tendacy to come out of the magazine before the slide is ready to capture it. Normally I don't have an issue with that, but I have one magazine out of 4 that this happens to. (I need to contact Ruger about a stronger spring.)
Another thing, like the LC9 (not LC9s), it has a long DAO trigger pull. That turns some people off to the original LCs.
I'd say at $250, your not getting ripped off, but only if you like the gun.
I have lots of Rugers that I'm happy with, one of which is the LCP. The LC380 is at the bottom of the list.

Tanks for the reply. Thats sort of the impression I got when I did a search here. And OK gun but not great. I like the little TCP I just bought but wouldn't mind a slightly bigger 380. I watched some YT videos last night and the Taurus Spectrum is just a little bigger and had decent reviews. So I will keep looking.

If anyone has a suggestion I would like to here it. Something just a little bigger than the TCP. A little easier to rack than the TCP and not as pricey as the Glock 42. I really liked the Glock when I held it. The Kahr CW380 looks good too.

At the size of it and the poor trigger, for a few dollars more a Bersa Thunder is a way better choice for a larger .380.

^^ This (if you're one of the decreasing population of handgun shooters that can learn, or have learned already, a DA/SA trigger action.) The Bersa is a nicely-sized, all-metal gun. It's a blowback-operated, so has fewer moving parts, and takes down easily and quickly.

My first auto centerfire that I still have was a S&W model 39-2. No problems with the DA/SA trigger set up. I owned a Bersa Thunderer 22 and it was a nice lightweight gun. Another friend shot it and begged me to sell it to him. I heard it broke in some manner and he was having trouble getting the correct parts for it. Hope he got it fixed.

I mentioned in post #3 I bought a slightly used Taurus TCP. What a neat little gun. I shot it yesterday. What a beast to shoot. I thought it would be like the pleasant to shoot Kel-Tec 32acp I stupidly sold. Nothing wrong with the fuction. It shot 50 flawless times. But between the tiny sights and the long trigger I didn't do very well with it at any kind of range. On the other hand the turtles we shot at with our Single Sixes were in mortal danger out to 40+ yards.

So I am rethinking the 380 thing. I can shoot my snub 32s and 38s out to 50 yards and keep them on a mans chest. I think this gun is just too small for the amount of recoil it has. I'm still thinking on it.

The TCP only weighs 10 ounces, has five foot-pounds of free recoil and has, at best, a two-finger grip. Of course it is going to require some effort to manage.

The LC380 weighs 17 ounces, has three foot-pounds of free recoil and has a three-finger grip if you use the pinky extension magazine base. A 40% reduction in recoil and a better grip can make a real difference in the manageability of a pistol.

As noted, the LC380 has a relatively long but light trigger pull. If you can't keep a gun aligned during a relatively long trigger pull, your accuracy will suffer and the LC380 would not be a good gun for you.

I have never worked the trigger on the LC but I agree with your assessment of the recoil on such a tiny gun. But I am not done yet. I will shoot this little TCP again and give it another chance. And thats the first time I have shot in what must be 6 months. I still have a Kel-Tec P32 on my watch list on GB. Buying another gun in 32acp is not a problem. If I had a bigger gun like the Bersa I doubt I would carry it. Just trying out some new stuff here.:D
