Congrats on the draw! Where are you planning to hunt? If it’s eastern Oklahoma, like Wichita, Cookson, or Cherokee, you’ll find that your shots likely won’t be over 100 yards. Our elk aren’t that big. The biggest I’ve seen were in the Spavinaw Game Refuge. A 270 with ELD-X’s will be more than enough. Best of luck!I live in Oklahoma and drew a elk tag for Oklahoma have any of you elk hunters used hornady 145 grain ELDX in .270win
Nice stag!Hunted New Zealand Red Stag this past spring. .270 Hornady Super Performance 130gr GMX.
One shot, broke shoulder, dead animal.

I haven’t tried the eldx yet but I shoot the 130 grain sst consistent at 300 yards on 6” steel just don’t know if I want to shoot a cow elk with that bullet. 300yards would be the farthest most likely 150 yards or less
I been trying hornady reloads but not lately it’s been ove 100 degrees hereThen you have a lot of options.
Starting w/ the 150 gr. Nosler Partition or Swift A-Frame.
A 130-140 gr. monometal like the Barnes TSX will get you out to ~ 300 yards.
For < 200 yards, even the 150 gr. Remington Core-Lokt would due.
Depends on what your rifle likes.
