Kimber 1911 Shocks me

So a few weeks I posted about my Kimber Stainless ii 1911 in 45ACP. Now at this point I have only 85 or so rounds through it but it's been 100% reliable with 3 different mags and 3 brands of ammo. So far I'm very pleased, have no complaints at all.

Now the shocking part is the accuracy, I'm not a great pistol shooter in fact I'd barely say I'm average skill with a pistol. The first time I shot it everything I shot was high and right, if I'd aim low left I'd hit bullseye.

Your guys suggestions to bag the pistol and use more finger on the trigger was exactly what I needed. I read in the manual that the sights were factory set for 25 yards. I set a target at 25 yards and with a pistol rest shot a 3 shot group...BEST pistol group I've ever shot I'm beyond happy. Consider me a Happy Camper and a proud Kimber owner.

Pistol : Kimber Stainless ii 45ACP 5" barrel as factory stock as can be.

Ammo : Federal HST 230gr +p

I'm 100% sure I won't be able to shoot 3 shots like all the time, it was the first and only group I tried to shoot with it. I always shoot off hand with pistols. I can say without hesitation say my pistol will outshot me anyday of the week.
 
Nice shooting but to convince many THR members, you would have to shoot several 10 round groups to see if the small 3 shot holes were a fluke or true expression of accuracy.

Come back with a tight 10 shot group after break-in and I will be interested. If it reliably feeds SWC reloads, I will even consider buying a Kimber.

That's because some THR members know the appropriate way to test accuracy.
 
To shoot tiny groups was not my intent of this pistol. I bought it just to plink with at the range and to double as a glove box, nightstand defense gun. I do like the accuracy I have seen off of bags and it gives me confidence that a miss was on me and not a fault to the gun.

How about you buy your own and see if it will shoot SWC reloads. No pistol or rifle I own have seen or will see a non jacketed bullet.

Great shooting, especially with 230+p. I struggle with flinching when I bench test them for some reason.
Standing up on my hind legs I do better. Those are the only groups that count anyway.
I bought the Kimber Target II in 9mm, very accurate as well, and reliable (after I replaced the extractor and FPS).
Shooting my best 50 yard groups in over 10 years with it.
Thought I was over the hill unitl I bought this pistol.
 
FWIW, both of my 4" Kimbers shoot 200grn plated SWC's fine... so there you go.

I have a Kimber ProEclipse II (4" stainless) pistol, bought it new in 2003 or so. Anyone who shoots it feels like a hero... accurate, smooth, and just a very nice pistol. Glad you are happy with yours.
 
Congrats on the new pistol, CarJunkie!! I have one of those too, and I have loved it for the last 12 years. They are great guns and, like you said, are more accurate than we are likely to be. Ignore the grumps on here that want to quibble about ignorant subjects. Enjoy your Kimber and know you have a great pistol!!
 
Thanks everyone I'm really enjoying my pistol, I've got confidence in it, so far as that if I point it at a reasonably sized target at a reasonable distance I'll be able to hit. It's only the second pistol I've ever owned I've had that confidence, the first is a .22 Browning Buckmark I inherited from my dad.

Wish my RIA 10mm was this accurate, it's not even close unfortunately, multiple shooters and multiple ammo types and it's just not a shooter.
 
I would surely purchase a Kimber but I just cannot do the plastic hammer spring housing - I do not understand that wisdom for a couple of bucks - I am too old school.

I assume you mean mainspring housing. Mine had that when I bought it. Irked me too. So I bought a steel one and changed it out. Sold the plastic one on one of the gun forums I am on. It is baffling why they would put a plastic part on a gun this nice, but they sure did.
 
I have an older Kimber. Over the years, only the frame, slide, barrel, and sights are original. Everything else has been changed to either Wilson or Brown. Each part was carefully fitted, by me. I learned a lot on the way. Its dead reliable and pin point accurate. I wouldn't sell this pistol at any price. I have a long history with it.

My daughter can do as she likes when I pass, but as she grew up shooting it, I bet she will pass it down to her tin kids.
