SRs are Back in Ruger's Line-up

I was surfing over at Buds looking at their pricing on the Security-9. I kept seeing listings for different SRs.

So I hopped over to ruger.com. Low a behold, there is a listing for most of their old line.

Is this old news that I missed, or did Ruger quietly reintroduce the series?
 
Awesome! This gives me an opportunity to ignore them all over again!

Just kidding. They just don't fit my hand well. But I know a lot of folks who really like them, and they have a good reputation.

This will make a lot of people happy.

Well I know it makes me happy (and maybe Jeb Stuart too), as I love my SR9c because it fits my hand perfectly! Good to see they're back in production though I did notice that Sports South Distributors looks to be the exclusive dealer for the entire SR line.

I noticed that too. I did see an SR40, don't remember if it was compact or not, at Fin, Feathers, & Fur for about $375. I thought it might have been used. But I didn't look that close.

Haven't seen any SRs at my local gun shops in sometime; likewise Security 9s and Ruger American Pistols have been few and far between as well.

I've been on the look-out for a RAP compact, and haven't seen any of them yet. Can't say if I have seen any Security-9s, as I just started to look for them out of curiosity. I may go with the SR9c "if" I see one.

BTW, my son has had a SR9c for some time. It's his go-to of all his guns.

Have seen a couple of Security 9s but no RAPs.

When I first started looking for a compact 9mm. I tried those made by Glock, S&W, and Springfield Armory and found the SR9c fit my hand the best, had a great set of sights, had the best trigger, and was well designed and built. Makes for a great CCW and with the 17 round mag a decent choice for a home defense gun.

You got that right Brother. I cannot say enough about the SR9c I own. And have been buying a lot mags to go along with it. Not long ago, I saw one at my LGS for only $299 and came so close to getting a second one.Smart move on Ruger to bring back this fine shooting, well built solid performer.

The SR9 is one of the truly unappreciated firearms. Fully adjustable sights, high capacity, fair price, American made, and a lifetime warranty is hard to beat.

The sights could be bigger though...

A long slide version would be nice...
 
He is no longer with us but I do recall when they discontinued them DPris posted about this. He said he had spoken with someone at Ruger & they said they weren't gone but just on vacation for a while or something to that effect.

I remember that. Makes me wonder what Ruger was thinking? What was the strategy behind this? I think it was to put more attention to the Ruger American.
 
Knowing Ruger this may well be a short run, but who knows. Ruger does have a reputation for developing certain models and not keeping them around long. I think they really want to push the new Ruger American pistol, but it just isn't flying off shelves. It may be a bad choice in name. The American line of rifles is the budget rifle. I bet many assume the American pistol is the budget pistol too.
 
I might be wrong. I think maybe there was an abundance of SR's on the market. They discontinued them to let the supply level lower. They can always pump some out from time to time to fill whatever demand there may be. People that really like them might even buy one just for the sake of redundancy just because they are uncertain about whether they will be available or not in the future. In the meanwhile Ruger can use their resources to make other things then pump out some more SR's whenever they think it's time.
 
Hey guys, I said it once, I'll say it again. Every model listed is a "distributor exclusive". I'm hoping ya all know what that means. Limited production, limited availability.

Ruger will build you just about anything if you buy enough. For stock items with a change in cosmetics it's less than 500 pieces. Since Ruger probably has the parts on hand they may just be cleaning out the parts bins to produce these.

Don't expect to see these sitting on shelves at most stores.

That's kind of what I was thinking when I saw the exclusive distributorship for the whole SR series.
 
Well it kind of makes sense from a marketing standpoint. Drop the SR and then SHAZAM! Here’s the RAP for your budget priced gun needs. Wasn’t the RAP developed for the military pistol contract that Ruger didn’t get? Maybe I’m remembering wrong. So they spent money to make em, didn’t get the contract, and then marketed them to the masses as the new thing.

Now sales have probably stabilized or dropped of, time for the triumphant return of the SR series!

Just a theory.

This or maybe the SR series was overbuilt to the point Ruger wasn't making money on them and decided to replace them for awhile with the Security Nine and the RAP. I guessing the Security 9 has done alright at it's price point but still haven't seen any RAPs on dealer's shelves (Bud's Gun Shop shows only the full size RAPs in 9mm. and .45 in stock). So possibly bringing the SR pistols back is filling in the gap while RAP production gets on track.
 
I'm not sure of why or how many. But Buds pricing for the SR seems to be even with the Security-9. grabagun.com seems about $20 more than the Security-9.

It will be interesting to see if other distributors such as Davidsons or Lipsey's joins in.

I can only wonder if that was to see if the American sales would increase.

I for one, have a full size RAP in 9mm, and have been satisfied with my purchase. I wanted a compact, but haven't seen any locally. Then I seen the Security-9 comes in the compact. While looking online for more info about them, is when I seen the SRs were back.
