Saw this article today, TBI effects from long term repeated exposure to the blasts of braked heavy magnums and especially the BMG might be something to consider as well.

Very interesting article but the author indicates that the damage comes from the blast and not the recoil. I used to go home with a headache when I shot my Marlin 1895 SBL doing load development. I would shoot 25 to 30 rounds prone in a session and it made for a tough day. I much prefer shooting rifles with suppressors attached, and if I were to buy an AW50 or AX50 I would add a suppressor for sure.

Muzzle Blast induced Tramatic Brain Injury.

SWEET!

Just when I thought the Big Fifty couldn't get any better!
Concussion from the concussion!

Now I have to have one, with a big orange warning sticker!:)

I used to own one. The rifle was so damn heavy at 31 pounds the recoil was not bad in the slightest. Far more of a push than pain.

The concussion however did slap you in the sinuses. I have also reloaded for the .50 and I can say it’s a pain. Be prepared to spend .50 cents a primer and $1 per projectile or more.

I like practical rifles and the .50 is not one of them. I think it’s a great hmg cartridge but the 338’s are where ballistics top out for marksmen rifles. The time to impact is just too long past a mile. Past that shots are unpredictable for practical uses. Luck may get you there in time, but predictability won’t. And to get better ballistics you’d need a tank of a rifle like the .50. Even if you’d like to shoot that far with a big heavy, there are better cartridges for that like the 416.

Also I love Steiner optics.

You guys know a nice Tripod for your Barrett would make shooting better.. Because a M2 50 BMG is not near as rough on you as those shoulder fired 50 cals. The Tripods I have seen.. I.E

All work to pick up the weight of the gun and support it.. But the Shooter needs to still place their heads right against the receiver closer to the concussion of the shell.

A design like the Lafette tripod for the Mg34s and Mg42s would be a thought because the gunner would be a little bit away from the concussion of the gun looking through the Tripod scope... The shooter would be as far back from the receiver as he/she would be with a M2 on a tripod.

I’ve got a State Gunworks 50 bmg single shot. Recoil isn’t that bad, a lot like a 30-06, but the gun weighs around 80 lbs. I shoot 750gr amax reloads out of it. It’s a hammer that you need some sort of vehicle to tote it around with!

Something to think about.. If you were impress with Ma deuce 50 years ago... At that time the M2 design was 48 years old and the gun was in the US inventory for 36 years already.

Hard to think of many things working about 100 years later with not that many changes.

Every American should have an anti material rifle, anyone willing to give me a small loan to exercise my rights? ;^)

If it aint broke don't fix it I suppose.

I have a Serbu RN50. Ugly bugger, but a hoot to shoot. I put an A2 stock on it, filled with lead shot and epoxy to keep it in place. Weighs about 30 pounds maybe? Not going to drag it around much, but from the truck to the shooting bench is not too bad. Recoil is not bad at all, although my brother has one and he did not fill his stock, and his will put nice black and blue lines on your shoulder. Have not shot it in awhile, going to have to get it out and put some rounds through it soon.
My son shooting it for his first time

I shot my friends BMG, from a bipod. I don't know what brand it was. Pretty stiff recoil, as you would expect.

Later that day I shot his 12 ga shotgun. That was worse recoil, physically beating up my shoulder. So either I didn't know what I was doing when holding the shotgun, my friend was smirking because he had loaded the shotgun with some sort of super duper shell, I'm a soft old man, or 12 ga shotguns really kick hard and I am correct and proper to avoid them.
