One of Ruger's newest models in the Revolver lineup. Retails for $250, ordered it online for $199. Aluminum frame, steel barrel, has a Creakote finish. Waiting for delivery to my FFL next week. Here are a few photos I found online. Comes in three finishes. A Plinker that takes me back to my younger days! rwr1.jpg rwr7.jpg

I can remember my first handgun. It was a German-built Herbert Schmidt Cowboy 22LR/22Mag six-shooter. I bought it way back in 1967, no jokes about my age. We had a wooded area behind our house and I spent hours plinking with that gun. Silly, but some of my best shooting memories.

Speaking of German built .22s one of my first single action revolvers was a Hawes Western Marshall made by J.P. Sauer and Sohn in Germany. It was .22LR/.22 Magnum convertible on a full size frame. As I recall the gun was mostly made out of Zamak with steel liners for the cylinder and barrel. It looked to have some sort of black painted on finish with faux ivory grips. The gun was easy to shoot since there was virtually no felt recoil though the .22 Magnum did make quite a bit of noise when I shot it!

This new Ruger Wrangler sort of reminds me of my Western Marshall. At that price I might have to get one to keep my Single Six company!

Congrats, nice looking gun.

‘Poor man’s trigger job’.......??
A poor mans trigger job is first boost the hammer 30 or so times. That is cock the gun put your thumb between the hammer and frame. With the thumb of the other hand press forcefully against the hammer and pull the trigger recock and repeat. This burnishes the two sear surfaces making the pull much smoother. Now remove one of the grips and you will see the two legged trigger spring hooked over a pin on both sides of the grip frame. Simply unhook one leg and replace the grip. You have now turned a 6lb slightly gritty trigger into a smooth about 3.5 lb trigger and it only cost a little time.

I have Ruger Wranglers 'backordered' through all three of my main distributors. NOTHING yet available from Davidsons, Zanders, and Williams. Ruger would have sold train car loads of these if they were actually available. They will still sell truckloads once they are in LGS dealers' hands, but I have lately noticed significantly less interest from disappointed potential buyers in the Wrangler since word first hit the streets early this year.

As an 01FFL (getting to be an ever increasingly expensive proposition here in Illinois) and a Ruger stockholder, I have been very disappointed by the way they have handled the Wrangler rollout. Making firearms out of Unobtanium is Kel-tec's business model (eg. the PMR-30), but now Ruger too?

I saw these in a LGS a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to handle one but they were quite busy and short handed and I was short on time. Had to walk out. Next time I'm in there if they still have a silver one I may have to buy it to see what all the hoopla is about. I have 2 unfired Heritage RRs in the safe (purchased for my grand kids) so I look forward to a fair comparison.

I let my disappointment with Ruger cloud my thoughts and failed to congratulate the OP on his purchase. The Ruger Wrangler is a very nice .22LR Revolver at a reasonable. price, and I am sure he will like it.

$199 online plus a local transfer is pretty much the going rate at this time, if you can find one of the larger dealers with them actually in stock. I expect them to sell locally at $189 or less plus tax IF Ruger ever finally ships them.

I was at Carters Country in Houston, Texas a couple weeks ago and they had them in stock in all colors.

My shooting buddy picked one up a couple weeks ago. Seems well made and was fun to shoot. The loading gate on his was fairly stiff and required way more effort to open than I'm used to ( compared to Uberti, Cimaron, and Colt)
The trigger was ok, a little gritty and heavier than our other single actions.
We didn't really shoot it for accuracy, just playing around with steel plates at 20-25 yards. His girlfriend with very little gun experience, had no trouble consistently ringing the 10" target at 20 yards.

Overall I liked it and think it's worth the price. I'm thinking about buying one for my 12 year old so I can get my frontier scout back lol.

I would hazard a guess that Ruger tried to anticipate the demand and failed. I'll ask the Ruger reps at the NRA CCA in September. I know they were steamrolled on the demand for the PCC when it was released.

The last thing they want to do is build 10,000 units and have them fail to sell.

The situation is much better than it was a couple of decades ago when it was 2-3 years between announcement and actual release.

There was a lot of talk about these a few months ago and the buzz has died down quite a bit since then. Last I heard about them was someone on another forum hates his, doesn't feel what was seen in promotional pics and videos online is representative of what production units actually look like.

Hopefully he just got a lemon and hopefully yours won't be.

I sure hope that those who jumped on the bandwagon and bashed another cheap .22 revolver aren't holding their tongue on the Wrangler because if they're also dissatisfied with theirs, I'd hope they say so to give prospective buyers accurate information on these guns.

I've seen them out there, talked to a clerk at a local store and was told they were getting about 10 (small town gun store).

If you think they're vaporware, they're probably just flying off shelves. Not in stock very long.

Just got to handle one at the LGS over Lunch. Overall, Im impressed. The finish is quite good, and it feels solid in the hand. The most serious gripe is the stiff loading gate which would be difficult for kids or slightly built girls to manipulate. Also, the grips had a tiny gap at the front of the frame, but overall a nice $200 gun.
