Ruger LC9S Pro

A, all my EDC guns sub-compact and below, are now all DAO. And have never looked back. Two are what some refer to as a striker fired DAO, but DAO never the less. I love these triggers for Carry. And shoot them well. A nice smooth, deliberate trigger that I am in total control of all the way through. For myself, the bottom line is I do not need a light striker fired trigger to shoot well. Yes, the LC9S is a lovely firearm I love the gun . Would love to see Ruger come out with one in a nice smooth DAO. But again, I have all the EDC guns I want or desire now for a real long time. And that is a good feeling.

I’ve shot an LC9s quite a bit. It’s a great little carry gun IMO. I imagine the Pro is just as good a shooter.

Early on some of the magazines had issues with the magazine catch and followers causing the magazines not to drop free. I checked this out when I bought my girlfriend one, and ended up calling CS. They sent a new magazine and I bought a few more online.

Can’t remember if it was the American or Italian made ones that caused the issues. A bit of Googling may shed more light. There were YouTube videos about it.

But Ruger fixed it.

I have a dozen mags for my LC9S, all Italian. Never a problem. The gun has always ran well.

Ok, that corresponds to what I’m remembering and I did a little searching. Seems the Italian mags were good to go. Some folks including myself had issues with the American made ones.

Just something to call Ruger about if mags fail to drop free or if the slide doesn’t lock back. Gun always shot well, just those two issues caused by one defective part.

The LC9s is my EDC. I'm very pleased with it in that function. Very accurate with 135 gr Critical Duty

I owned a LC9S pro .. Great pistol ...
It went on a trade for my 43 .. which I still own .. a 43 with the short grip 6 round mag is great for conceal and the Vickers +2 extention makes it perfect for me ...
But back to the LC9S pro ... Dang great pistol .. but with the thin grip and grip angle .. He was just not a fun gun at the range .. and to me a bit to lively with +P ..and the trigger was sweet a bit 2 sweet for me
Im just use to the Glock format

Some may remember I had a trigger kit installed on my LC9s. Shortened the take up. Shortened and lightened the pull. Very sweet trigger now though still a bit long.

Are you sure you do not mean LC9 vs the LC9S? My gosh, the LC9S is on of the lightest on the market. Mine is down to 4lbs of pull. Hickcock45 in one of his reviews spoke about how some of the triggers have become so light and said the LC9S was so light that it was almost a target gun. That guns goes off quick. What is the weight of your gun with the trigger job now? And you say it is still long?

Yes sir, that is what I was told that it was being replaced by the EC9-s.
The EC9s is almost the same gun as the previous standard LC9s (not the PRO version). It just has a cheaper finish and non-adjustable sights. It has the manual safety and the loaded chamber indicator.

I had an LC9-s PRO for a while. No problems with it -- I just found it nasty to shoot: light for a 9mm, with a very narrow grip. I know the size and weight make it a better carry gun, but I want a gun that's enjoyable to shoot, even for a carry gun.

No, it is the s, Jeb. The job wasn’t about weight, it was about length of pull and sloppiness. Some lightening just couldn’t be avoided while the rest was being addressed. For all the praise that trigger gets, there must be some demand for improvement. Powder River Precision saw enough market to offer the kit. I have no idea what the current pull weight is. I just know it is a tad lighter than before. I do use the safety as if the gun were a 1911.

I bought the LC9S Pro over the LC9S because if you lost or misplaced the magazine on the LC9S, it's useless. The Pro can be fired without a magazine single shot. I'd never carry a round in the chamber anyway.. I practice draw and rack every time at the range. hdbiker

I'll never understand why the discontinued the Pro version. It had all the basically standard features that the Shield, PPS M2, Glock 43, XDS, etc have, and was priced at or slightly below the Shield 1.0 at around $265 +/-.

They discontinued all versions and brought out the EC9s. An economy gun could hardly have a pro version

Do you use a shot clock during practice? Curious what your draw, rack, to fire time is versus what others get with just draw fire.

IDK, Kahrs does that with their CM and PM pistols. S&W kind of does something similar with the M&P and M&P PC. I think there would have been market for both the EC9 and LC9s Pro. Lots of people prefer or require real sights if not night sights on their carry gun.

You get no argument from me.

In case you didn't know it, you people are a very bad influence.

I liked my LC9 pretty well, but the trigger was kind of stiff and I don't like a safety on a carry pistol.

I didn't know that the LC9s Pro was suddenly so cheap.

After reading this thread, I ordered one tonight.

I'll send a range report after it arrives. :)

I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. I had one for awhile and they are very nice guns. At the current prices you can’t go wrong. I agree with those who are perplexed by Ruger discontinuing all but the EC9S.

The Italian mags also don’t have the unsightly weld seam on the back. I too recall reading that the USA mags were somewhat troublesome whereas the Italian mags were considered good to go.

The EC9S is solid, but it's a bit of a rust magnet. The sweaty summer months have proven that. I really like mine but it's been regulated to truck duty.

What did you find wrong with the LC9 (not “s”). Wasn’t that DAO? I’m sure you can still find some new or used.

EDIT: Upon a little research I see that the hammer-fired LC9 is partially cocked by the recoil of the slide. I don’t know how much the action actually resembles DAO.

Man, it has been so long since I owned that gun. I bought it when they first came out. I shot it often, but then it seemed the DAO was not the best, but I shot it well and it is a good gun. I ended up giving it my Brother in Utah when the LC9S came out. He likes it and the like the trigger.
My two guns I enjoy the most now in 9mm are the Nano and Kahr. I shoot them often along with the Pocket guns and Snubbies.. Have really adapted to the DAO. I also liked the LCP Gen 2 vs the new model. I know Ruger will not make any more DAO in semi. The public prefers the lighter striker fired triggers. I just bought another Nano, and even though they upgraded to a new model, the CARRY, they kept the same trigger, and Kahr continues all their guns with the DAO. I have want I want, so am happy. Still have the LC9S, still shoot it, and still have retained the Muscle Memory skills of using a safety, so all is good. It still remains such a nice design.

I would carry a 0.1oz 1mm travel trigger in a kydex fully protected guard. Nothing that would set of a LC9S wouldn't set off a Glock. It feels riskier perhaps but I dont see how it is. At 12+ pound trigger pull and a half inch of travel things that might trip a glock wouldn't trip the revolver, but there's no difference between a cocked and unlocked 1911, an LC9S, or a Glock in a kydex holster that works.
