They are the only place for 50 miles in my area that has a decent selection and sane prices. This is going to seriously affect thousands and thousands of consumers.

And they are asking customers to stop open-carrying in their stores.

Wow. Just wow...

I honestly have a hard time believing that an area 100 miles across has "thousands and thousands" of people who buy ammunition but nowhere other than Walmart that has a decent ammo selection and reasonable prices. I guess it's possible, just surprising. You should open a store!

"After selling through our current inventory commitments, we will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons,"

Uh what? Short barrel rifle ammunition?

Why the attack?

Walmart has had a no open carry policy for years, just FYI. That's nothing new.
No. This is the first time it has been implemented besides following various State Laws. Of course, I can't carry there at all, because I work there, but you still can, CCW, where allowed by law.
I have worked for Walmart for 14 years, the Sporting Goods Dept. Mgr. in my store is my best friend and shooting buddy, and he knows of no such plan. There are changes coming, but they are organizational. Walmart as a company will still be selling ammo, but as I have stated in many threads about it, a store manager can effectively decide whether that store will or will not carry ammo or guns because they have to approve ammo and gun purchases, whatever the store modular may be.
Bear in mind Walmart's current stock is billions of rounds, just in .223 alone.
As for the OC thing, FWIW; most the people I have seen OC had Hi-Points (Not a good carry gun due to the poor safety) in the $7 Crosman Airsoft holsters we sell, usually without the strap closed, and hanging way out to the point the gun could fall out.
I disagree with the new policies, but it is a business. We all had to retake the Active Shooter video training after the two recent incidents, even though we take it quarterly anyway.

Not that I buy a lot of my ammo at Walmart, but I guess now, by principle, I'll have to start boycotting Walmart too for the other things I buy there. Just to be consistent to my principles.

Is it possible to buy stock in MidwayUSA and Brownell's?

This is how we get guns out of the hands of Americans.....cut off the ammo supply by influencing businesses.

No handgun ammo? Because, there's been a rash of handgun shooting? Does that mean no 22LR? How stupid a decision is that?

This will benefit local gun stores and/or help some discover the convenience ordering ammo online (in free places).
Local stores will jack their prices up knowing they're the only game in town, but internet sales will gain big from this decision and rightfully so. The ammo selection at Walmart has gotten a lot better over the years, but it's still terrible and often overpriced. When .32 ACP costs $10 more a box than online, it's a hard pill to swallow.

I've bought ammo from Walmart a few times and it was always handgun ammo, usually .38 and .357 when I was planning a range trip and couldn't load any (didn't have any brass) or there wasn't enough time to make an online order.

I use to not buy any ammo from them because I had to pay sales tax, but after the SCOTUS bent everyone over a barrel with internet sales tax it changed things.

My fear is with how stupid the general populace is there's one day going to be a law that bans online ammo sales. What that does to stop any crime beats me, but it makes stupid people feel good so that means it's a good law to stupid people. If/when that happens the LGS is going to be the only place to buy ammo and it's only a matter of time before NICS checks for ammo sales. Local FFL's are not going to be able to order and keep in stock the quantities of ammo companies like Walmart, Midway, Brownells, etc. can so the end result will be we'll all be paying MUCH more for ammunition.

It's never been a better time to be a reloader.

At least you can order ammo without having to go through a FFL like I do here...but I’m sure this will gain traction all over the US next.

Just another example of one more unstable moron affecting those of us who have no intention of causing anyone harm.

Stay safe.

I cant ever get anyone to help me at the ammo/gun counter anyways. o_O

It's sad to see that so many stores are giving in to the B.S because they don't want to be caught in the BS. I was at the movie theater the other day and saw an armed security officer. I inquired with the manager if he actually worked there and was told yes. It's sad that we cant even see a movie with our families without fear of being shot. I think companies are doing away with guns and ammo because they don't want to be in the spotlight. I don't agree with it at all, but I don't go to Walmart for anything but a hunting license, shotgun shells and 22lr and groceries. Handgun ammo is way more than anyone else so they can do what they wish.

i'll send them a list of my receipts from walmart for the past month or two, and a note about how i won't be shopping there as it's obvious they are trying to cut down on the smell of trump voters

its not going to affect me very much to not at all. I reload for 90 precent of the firearms I own and have a ton of .22 ammo from the last shortage. believe me they will not stop selling it until they are just about out and then will not restock it, screw them.

OMG indeed.

This is a huge win for the anti-gun folks especially in anti-2A States.

California is showing how it easily can done. First restrictions on guns, next restrictions on buying ammunition and now the largest retail Corporation in America voluntarily ending sale of ammunition (they already ended sale of AR’s). If you carefully read the CEO’s statement they are totally abandoning the right of self- defense.

In the free States it is a opportunity for other businesses. In one town not far away the ACE Hardware store sells guns, ammo and shooting supplies. With the Wally World policy it may be a boost to them and a small LGS that I am using.

Not straying too much into politics but I wonder what tea leaves Wally World executives are reading.

"We know these decisions will inconvenience some of our customers, and we hope they will understand," Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said in a memo to employees.

No, Mr. McMillian, I will not understand. Poo on you and your stores.
Yep, I Do understand Mr.McMillian...

Edit: And now I guess I'll have to find another source for the barn cats food...
